- MikeFromAmerica, on 04/01/2009, -5/+72***** Apple. They've been steadily becoming more and more evil over the past several years. Ever since the iTunes Music Store debuted...
- latenightlab, on 04/01/2009, -4/+65Apple was "hip and cool" when they had no market share. Now that people buy their products, they are just as bad as Microsoft.
- pilot101, on 04/02/2009, -1/+37In some sense even worse, Iphone not jailbroken is far more locked down than windows mobile or palm
- vulcanius, on 04/02/2009, -9/+37Dear Apple, eat a dick.
- tokabowla, on 04/01/2009, -15/+372 words for crApple.
FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK
YOOOOOOOOOOOOUUU - belyle, on 04/01/2009, -5/+25While the verbiage has been added to the agreement, I don't see this hindering most developers. The developers who work on jailbreak and jailbreak apps already operated in a grey/black area, so Apple's express forbid is not likely to make them blink.
- NovaPrime9, on 04/02/2009, -3/+20I think it's worse than that. If Microsoft did some of the things that Apple is currently doing, the world would be in a ***** uproar. But since Apple still somehow maintains the "little guy" feel, they get away with it. Can you imagine if Microsoft had come out with the Zune first, and it had as much marketshare as the iPod currently has? People would be readying pitchforks and torches.
And I use Apple computers. I love their computers. HATE the ***** company. - Zaxcomp, on 04/02/2009, -2/+18Apple: Largest Corporate Jail Warden?
- ahawks, on 04/02/2009, -0/+13I waited for the G1 to come out before buying my iPhone, because I do love the open principles of Android and would love to see it succeed.
The G1, however, turned out to be a huge pile of *****, in my opinion. I'd still love to see Android perform, and I'd even switch in the future, but the G1 itself as a phone does not appeal to me. - ATL, on 06/20/2009, -1/+13So, the people who try to create apps for the app store and get rejected by Apple aren't allowed to release that app to the jailbroken community to try to earn back some of their losses?
This is just going to divide the app store apps and the 3rd party apps even more. - rashawty, on 04/02/2009, -1/+11So after taking the innovations that were made for jailbroken iPhones and putting them in their 3.0 update they want to prevent any further improvements? They would make so much more money if they would just us the customers what we wanted.
- TheUngod, on 04/02/2009, -3/+13It won't be cool for much longer. Old people are getting into it. Obama gave the Queen of England an iPod. It's all downhill from there. It'll be just like the South Park "chimpokomon" episode.
- Philbert, on 04/02/2009, -0/+9I can love a product and still hate the company that makes it.
- cjwl, on 04/02/2009, -0/+9Being registered doesn't matter. They can update the portal and SDK agreement at any time and basically force you to accept it before continuing use. You can continue to use an old SDK but you have to keep your device at the same OS rev. to continue using it which will get old fast.
- deslock, on 04/02/2009, -3/+11In some areas even worse. Remember the non-optional "bundling" of Safari with all iTunes installs? Even though I paid good money for a Touch, they still felt that I needed to support the Safari cause. It didn't help that the browser was buggy at the time too.
That's the kind of crap I remember being annoyed with in the days of RealPlayer. Remember all the shovelware with RealPlayer? - tgc1, on 04/02/2009, -2/+10Why do people keep buying these things? It's like Apple is saying you don't even OWN what you buy. It's like buying a car and the company who sells it to you says you cannot put any other fuel companies fuel into your car than the ones they tell you to.
- ImmediateAction, on 04/02/2009, -1/+9Why is the picture for this story one of cats pawing through a small cage?
- Jyaif, on 04/02/2009, -2/+10Good thing I am already registered then. BTW, FU Apple (and this coming from a guy who payed 99$ for the license).
- Philbert, on 04/02/2009, -0/+8"I made u a cage but I ated it."?
- darkzealot89, on 04/02/2009, -5/+12Don't like it? Quit buying their products then. They didn't get a bailout, and its not their fault they are successful because people buy their products that work pretty well. I am no Apple Fanboy by any means, but having a successful company is not illegal in a Capitalist market (assuming their success is from legal means, which it is). The iPhone is Apple's product, and they have every right to enforce a no-jailbreak rule. It's their Operating System, their hardware, their phone. Much like Valve has the right to enforce its game protection on the Steam service. Apple isn't screwing anybody. If you don't like it, go get a different phone. Or damn it make your own, but don't blame Apple for "attacking the American People" just because they are selling their products very well in today's market.
If you don't like the company, don't buy or support their products. Sounds like you need a better understanding of economics and corporate strategies. - autoy, on 04/02/2009, -0/+7Just a heads up: the "ban on jailbraking" in the SDK isn't new. It was there in October already.
- imric, on 04/02/2009, -0/+6:-( And yet they've removed tethering apps from the Android Market. As if T-Mobile doesn't allow tethering. They DO allow tethering. Just not on the G1. It's the same BS in kind, it's just that the degree is different.
- foresmac, on 04/01/2009, -1/+7True, but most of the developers I've talked to say that the language taken as a whole means developers can't jailbreak their own phones or they could have their dev license revoked.
- MacParrot, on 04/02/2009, -2/+8Are you actually comparing a choice of cell phones or whether or not a developer can make apps for some platform with the systematic murder of millions? Really?
ANY legitimate choice is a like it or lump it. Don't like the GOP? Then vote for another Party. Don't like the PS3? Buy an XBox. Don't like Macs? Use Windows or Linux. Don't like the iPhone? Then buy another ***** phone. These aren't life and death choices. - AnthonyC, on 04/02/2009, -0/+6April Fool's Day was yesterday.
- inactive, on 04/02/2009, -3/+91. Buy an iphone.
2. Sign the developer agreement.
3. Do whatever you want with the phone. You bought. It's yours and doesn't belong to Apple anymore. - ddawggin, on 04/02/2009, -0/+5He probably posted that comment from Firefox.
- dpbBryan, on 04/02/2009, -0/+5/facepalm.
- Philbert, on 04/02/2009, -0/+5That's what I said until the iPhone came out, turned out to be the one exception.
- BioTeq, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4Clearly it's an attempt to thwart the alternative app stores which are showing up, Cydia Store being one of them, I suppose they'll be closely monitoring those stores and the developers who attempt to sell at both, we'll get an apple-signed ban.
- MacParrot, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4Digg used to be a pretty decent place to exchange ideas and for some friendly back and forth about technology. Now it's turning into the worst parts of YouTube as far as comments go.
Mac fanboys screaming about Windows viri and worms and Windows fanboys still going on about one-button mice. What a charlie foxtrot. - superpixel, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4Apple has never condoned jailbreak and the previous agreement essentially said as much. This isn't so much a change as a clarification. Kind've a non-story if you've been reading along.
- deslock, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4cjwl is correct.
Worse: you can't claim ignorance on your old SDK agreement because you can't develop anything for the iphone 3.0 OS without accepting the new agreement. - blackjack75, on 04/02/2009, -0/+4It's not all "darkside apps". Some serious developers are releasing jailbroken apps. Take Qik for example, they wrote a nice video streaming app that is banned from the app store because it uses undocumented APIs and hardware calls. Now they'll have to remove it from the net in order to keep being a registered developer (for future apps)?
As a consumer, mac user and iPhone developer I find this pretty annoying, even if it doesn't affect me right now. Apple keeps acting like what it is: a commercial company, with no soul. - NJank, on 04/02/2009, -0/+3isn't it obvious?
- JoshuaJones, on 04/03/2009, -0/+3Clearly you have no idea how babby is formed.
- tgc1, on 04/02/2009, -2/+5*a bag of
- MacParrot, on 04/02/2009, -0/+3What are you? 12? Any chance it could simply be a preference? I use Windows PCs everyday and have no big issue with Microsoft. I use MS Office for the Mac and think it's pretty good. I just like OS X better and I'm willing and can afford to do so. Hell most of my comments on Digg are from a WinPC. Plenty of people like Linux as well. Most not because they can't afford a copy of Windows or don't want to spend extra on a Mac, just because they like Linux.
Are there mac fanboys who preach the gospel of Jobs? Sure there are and they are just as annoying and smug as you. - bkorte, on 04/02/2009, -0/+3Betcha $10 you've already agreed to this clause. Its been in there for a while.
- diggduggDOOM, on 04/02/2009, -0/+3The kitties want to be jailbroken (jailbroked? jailbreakered?)
- rashawty, on 04/02/2009, -0/+3The internets love cats and bacon. Just be happy it wasn't a cat in a bacon cage speaking with bad grammar.
- klotz, on 04/02/2009, -1/+4I fail to understand the developer fascination with the iPhone restrictions. Of course they want you to sign an agreement saying you won't do things detremental to their business model; that's their business!
They're running a business, and if you don't like their business model, don't do business with them and take your development skills elsewhere. If their business suffers as a result, they'll change. If it doesn't, then at least you won't have to complain about the iPhone anymore and you'll be happier too.
If you want to make fart noises and sell them for money, develop for the iPhone, but don't complain that Apple has rules you have to follow to sell your stuff to their customers.
But, if you want to do interesting things without much hassle, develop for an open Android platform instead and stop complaining about how bad things are over in Apple land. They're not going to listen. - JTMON, on 04/02/2009, -0/+3Good to see ya troll!
- anubis2night, on 04/02/2009, -0/+3I never had that problem sounds like either your making it up or your just a fanboy in denial
- Philbert, on 04/02/2009, -2/+5You know the vast majority of users haven't even heard of jailbreaking right? Or they have but don't care enough to look into it.
- MWeather, on 04/02/2009, -0/+2This isn't about banning jailbroken apps, it's about banning developers of jailbroken apps.
- dragossh, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2Yeah, those ***** developers who gave us cut, copy and paste before Apple did. Those ***** developers who enable us to use Wi-Fi only apps (a rule imposed by Apple!) without a Wi-Fi connection. Those ***** developers who enable us to have multitasking.
- aristotle0dude, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2If you bought the phone without a contract then it is yours do with as you please but be aware that Apple will not cover your warranty if you brick your iPhone while doing so. However, if you got it subsidized under a contract, then it is not really yours until you either pay the cancellation fee or your contract runs out.
BTW. I think this article was an April fools joke. - Deguello, on 04/02/2009, -0/+2I love my iPhone...because of being able to Jailbreak it and put what I want on it....
So this will only make me move away from this and all apple products....
Apple you can lick all up on my scrotal region! - Taiyoryu, on 04/03/2009, -0/+2Android cool. G1 not so much. Patiently waiting for hardware manufacturers to catch up.
