If the rumors about Apple testing an iPhone with a keyboard are true, the market is in for another shock, since not having a keyboard is what deters a large percentage of potential users. - jmoh, on 07/02/2008, -0/+16"Maybe they should hire Ive to redesign the award"
-taken from user response on the site - foresmac, on 07/02/2008, -0/+16RE: American cars: Yeah, Japan has more or less been doing that since the mid-90s. American car companies were just too stupid to realize it and act on it. pwned.
- dpowre, on 07/02/2008, -5/+18rightly deserved!

Antoine de Saint Exupéry - pak314, on 07/03/2008, -0/+7Actually that quote is from the IRS ;-)
- magicmarc, on 07/02/2008, -1/+8Jonathan Ive is a great designer, really bringing great hardware designs to give Apple what they have been best known for.
Slideshow of some products designed by him - http://images.businessweek.com/ss/06/09/iveprofile ... (fairly old, but still valid) - ozziek, on 07/03/2008, -1/+8Says iPhone on the back
- irgeorge, on 07/02/2008, -0/+6If you've ever used that LG phone you'll realise how utterly, utterly un-revolutionary it is. They just made a normal mobile phone interface with a touch screen. Touch screen mobile phones were a natural evolutionary step which everyone has been considering for years, LG did it very badly and Apple did it very well shortly after.
- outsidethebox, on 07/03/2008, -1/+5Has he designed anything I'd know of?
...but all lame jokes aside, good for him. Sure it's simple and the Apple logo on the back make it that much more popular, but it's still a great phone with a revolutionary design. Look at how many manufacturers are following the design now. - a3r0, on 07/02/2008, -1/+5We will all drive shiny white cubes
- magicmarc, on 07/02/2008, -2/+5LG made OS X?
- manitoba98xp, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3It sounds like you haven't heard of the iCar. No steering wheel…just touch. :)
- dylio, on 07/02/2008, -2/+5Since I'm buying an iPhone the 11th I may as well defend it,
That button on the bottom kinda accents the rest of the phone. When you see an iPhone, you know it's an iPhone. - mjhamilton, on 07/03/2008, -0/+3Since when does the Muscular Dystrophy Association give out design awards?
/sarcasm - crashlock, on 07/03/2008, -0/+2The price has deterred a large percentage of potential users not the lack of keyboard.
That already looks to have been fixed now with the huge price cut for the 3G.
I bet the uptake will be huge come July 11th. - magicmarc, on 07/02/2008, -2/+4It's a big discussion which has gone on for a while, but I think OS X is the real beauty of the software side, which I can say that Apple did not steal from LG.
- Falldog, on 07/02/2008, -1/+3"The iPhone is arguably the most talked about consumer-electronics device that has hit the market in the last 5 years,"
I wonder which blogs the judges visit most often. - BrendanSheehan, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1Yeah it's like a dud Superman crystal.
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I know plenty of people that are willing to pay $400 for a quality phone that won't since it doesn't have a keyboard. Price and lack of keyboard are 2 separate issues that deter two different types of people.
I hate that I can't activate from iTunes anymore, though. That makes me angry. Such a great idea gone to the dogs. - dylio, on 07/03/2008, -1/+2I see what you did there.
- inactive, on 07/03/2008, -0/+1I agree with you. I love my iPhone. But there are rumors circulating that Apple is testing a slide out keyboard on an iPhone, which could be a separate model. I know a lot of people that won't get an iPhone because they're too in love with their Blackberry, Treo, or Sidekick keyboard. I think having several different models of iPhones to apply to more people is a good idea.
- melonhedd, on 07/03/2008, -2/+2Stop saying iconic.
- TheSuperMofo, on 07/03/2008, -0/+0More than one design award actually:
http://www.dandad.org/awards08/category.asp?catego ... - Misogyny, on 07/03/2008, -0/+0I'm trying to visualize people driving with a multi-touch interface...
- glenSM, on 07/03/2008, -3/+2Yeh i wouldnt go near an american car, but i think the shelby gt 500 from gone in 60 seconds is a great looking thing. Europe and Japan owns the car market imo.
- superkendall, on 07/02/2008, -4/+3Someone has spent way too little time looking at only screenshots to make that judgement.
- 0260, on 07/02/2008, -6/+5its a damn screen with a button at the bottom. come ON!
- kidjay, on 07/02/2008, -3/+1i would hope so.
- superkendall, on 07/02/2008, -8/+6Sorry man, the iPhone already has a keyboard - far better than anything other mobile devices are saddled with thank you very much. Did not the Jobs keynote at WWDC lay to rest lame rumors that Apple would cripple the iPhone with a keyboard like all other devices?
The closest we'll ever see to one would be bluetooth keyboard support, which makes a lot more sense because then you get a real keyboard. - vagarach, on 07/03/2008, -5/+1The iphone classic really doesn't look that good. It's fat, has that garish shiny edging, and a silver back with a completely out of place strip of black at the bottom.
If the iphone were the same as the ipod touch (minus the polished back) then it would be worthy of an award.
The original ipod, THAT is iconic. It really is an icon, and so the word is entirely appropriate. - jcarian, on 07/02/2008, -6/+1Maybe he can put his amazing design record into the American auto industry...
- Averytingwong, on 07/02/2008, -7/+2I shall respond without reading the three whole comments posted above and pip in that American cars should take a hint from the iPhone design!
- locojones, on 07/03/2008, -6/+1Seriously, a design award? It's an LCD screen that has rounded corners slapped onto it. There's not even a modicum of design on it that's not apparently obvious. What the hell else are you going to do? Well let's see, we can choose between square corners or round ones. Hmmm, it needs a back too, let's make it shiny. Oh hey look, we won an award for all that obvious, hard work. Yay! *lame*
- solid12345, on 07/03/2008, -8/+1Apple could slap their logo on a paperclip and sell it to you for 600 dollars and people would call them genius.
- inactive, on 07/02/2008, -11/+3Um the beautiful part of the iphone is the software. And apple pretty much ripped that off from LG KE850.
- waydee, on 07/02/2008, -15/+3Buried as iphonespam.
