- ProAm500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, if i were Apple I would be very concerned at whats Nokia doing with thier new phones, waayyyyy better than the ROKR. Also that new Sony Walkman phone looks pretty good too......
- BlueStarr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Woo Hoo! ^^^^^You're damned if you do damned if you don't. Can't please everyone, I guess. Just get what you want and enjoy.

Time to dump Motorola and do it right.
Take it from me apple, you could do it with just one click wheel as weal, just use itunes to insert the phone numbers. Who needs a dial pad?
And don't screw it up with less then 1GB... and now we expect video on it.
Someone hire me, I've got a million of these. - kaje, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At this point, it is most likely just more Motorola phones with iTunes...You can tell by the stands they have at cingular stores with ROKRs on them. There's spots for 2 more phones on the display. We're a ways from an actual Apple branded phone.
- jafar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The thing is, Nano is the replacement for Shuffle or iPod mini not the normal iPod. The previous iPod was released quite some time ago.
- neocitron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0the Rokr isnt Apple's phone... it's simply software on top of it..
- mindspace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apple may be impressed with it's part in its first cell product.
Not so sure about everyone else.
The ROKR is lame and far short of what it could have been. - garretble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is why I don't like Apple - at least lately: they announce something one week and then put out something better the next week, right after everyone has bought up all of the first product. Nano? iPod video. iTunes phone? New Apple phone. I'm interested in these products, as most of them usually turn out to be pretty good, but I'm afraid of buying anything because I know that next week something better will probably roll off the shelf.
- garretble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"That's technology in general. Something new will always come out after you've purchased something. Do you think they're gonna stop production just so poor little garretble can feel like he has the latest and greatest thing for more than a week? If the product is worth what you're willing to pay for it at this instant, quit worrying about what comes out next week or you'll never buy anything again."
Thanks for being a jerk about it; moving on.
I guess I should have specified a little more. I "know how technology works," but segmenting your market like they've been doing recently is rude to their customers (and I'm talking solely of Apple right now). For example, the Nano just came out, what about a month ago? A fairly knowledgeable consumer might think to themselves, "That's neat, and since Jobs said earlier that video isn't coming to the iPod anytime soon, I'll go ahead and buy this with the assurance that it'll be at least some time before I'll have to upgrade." And then Apple turns around and puts out the iPod with video, effectively angering that consumer. It's not so much that it's technology in general, because something new will always come out, as you said, it's just that Apple has turned around and released two high profile products right after each other in a short span. Imagine that your favorite car company just announced a new car that goes 200 horse power and waited until the masses gobbled it up, including you. Then, a couple of weeks after the celebration died down, they say, "Oh, by the way, now you can get the 250 horse power version!" Those with the ability (i.e. money) to buy one or the other who were early adopters of the first version might be upset that the company turned around on them. As such, that's why I've been recently upset with Apple. They could have - and in my opinion, should have - announced both at the same time. It's not like they didn't know they were cooking up the video version. That's all business, of course, and they just want to make money, but it's just kind of crappy for the consumer. And that, my friends, was a long winded response. Sorry for that. The funny part is that I don't even own any Apple products, haha. - danhuard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0bravo...don't know who this Peter Lewis guy is (the columnist) but that was a great read. apple, blah blah, but that column had a lot of character, good writing :)

Read the preview carefully. He said Cingular was great to work with. Not Moto and Cingular. Cingular. That means too me that they're producing the hardware and Cingular will be the carrier. - cipnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0until they release a real ipod phone i suggest the Sony Ericsson W800i Walkman phone. i'm never touching a motorola again after the e1000

However the more time goes the worst their - once simple - interface becomes. SonyEricsson phones have become much more intuitive nowadays. I am definitely waiting for a phone that would be a good mp3 player while a decent phone. The latest sony's (like the K750) are not bad but they are not exactly an iPod either.
I am pretty sure an iPod with GSM as an additional option would do well. Just insert your SIM inside and let's go. And if you don't want to use that feature, then just don't. I am certain it wouldn't add much to the cost of the current iPods.
Damn, I'd love to have a phone that looks like the nano. I am not the type of guy who hangs on the phone hours a day so I'd rather have an nice player with added phone functionality than the opposite.
