An inspiration to us all. - threepio, on 10/12/2007, -4/+48"Take off your sweater Mr. Connery"
"It ish off."
"Oy." - jhunt, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27nice troll
- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Wow, 400 factorial? that is a huge crap load of computers. Im too lazy to try to calculate out what that would equal...
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20In other news, Apple now has a 99.999% market share in the computer hardware market, due largely to a recent purchase of 100,000,000,000,000,000....

...00,000,000 G5 computers from Sony Pictures. - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23No, for ANY generation, Sean Connery is, was, and will be Bond.
- yensed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20And you will get to see Bond destroy all those macs when he drives a BMW through the New York Apple Store in the upcoming Bond film!.. FTW!!!
- YourTechSupport, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18*ahem* Imagine a beowulf cluster of those.
Where'd all that hair come from? - stmiller, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Or a 007 ipod. Anything would be better than a U2 ipod. Heck even an Ace of Base ipod would be better.
- pype, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17That quote was from 1967
- xioner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Eh, I figure if my femanist Fiancee loves the movies, I can enjoy them ;-)
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13I don't think they accidently ordered 600 G5's and then tried to find a job for them. They specifically tasked them for this project from the get-go... I'm sure they considered using other platforms before going with the G5's.
But then again, you probably know more than some of the most-qualified people doing this for a living... - flyingfox23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Well obviously it would be released on Blu-Ray over HD-DVD considering it is Sony Pictures Home Entertainment that is releasing it!
- TiMMY8765, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Since we're remastering movies, remember who shoots first.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -4/+14How about a Bond edition of the Macbook Pro.. that would be a sweet looking case badge.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"... even the oldest Bond movies now look as fresh as if they had been made this year"
Thats pretty impressive. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12600 G5s, 70MB per frame for Star Wars
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/click_online/3945149.stm - Darwinian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10James Bond always had a hairy chest, the figure is no surprise. lol
- Twelve-60, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11maybe he lives in a country other then america? you idiot.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"They could have done this using 150 PCs and it probably would have been faster and definitely cheaper."
Then why are they doing it on macs? - elnerdo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7In case anybody's wondering, it's approximately
6.4034522846623895262347970319503 x 10^868 - daller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Actually they are fast and with a 64 bit HW and SW architecture. The G5 have its bad sides but if you have 400 2*2.5 that is speed.
To do that cind of work you need loads of opteron machines. Dont know ur knowlege of Video editing or handeling Large files but thats something the macs are good at. - Zm3r3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Err if your gonna pick holes in Bond, do some reseach "Doesn't smoke"
WTF he was a heavy, HEAVY smoker. God bless you sir! - yensed, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Sean Connery Is Bond! No Comparison.
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -1/+664034522846623895262347970319503005850702583026002959458684445942802397169186831436278478647463264676294350575035856810848298162883517435228961988646802997937341654150838162426461942352307046244325015114448670890662773914918117331955996440709549671345290477020322434911210797593280795101545372667251627877890009349763765710326350331533965349868386831339352024373788157786791506311858702618270169819740062983025308591298346162272304558339520759611505302236086810433297255194852674432232438669948422404232599805551610635942376961399231917134063858996537970147827206606320217379472010321356624613809077942304597360699567595836096158715129913822286578579549361617654480453222007825818400848436415591229454275384803558374518022675900061399560145595206127211192918105032491008000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Is 400! exactly (to all 869 digits). (You'll have to view your source or something to see it... I put no line breaks in it to avoid filling the comment page with lots of digits)
I bet Apple is happy it wasn't 400(!!) computers - because the double factorial is significantly fewer computers. - wickedbob, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6be nice if people actually read the article before posting comments on digg - the reason why they chose mac is clearly stated in the article
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@mooninite:
I bet there is a collective slap of the forehead from the staff at Lowry's... too bad they didn't listen to you, they could have saved money, but, alas, they are all "fanbois"
It has nothing to do with "the right tool, for the right job", no, none at all... - kingace, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7gnaa:
Heheheh. Despite the fact that I disagree with you about James Bond - he kicks ass - I love the D.A.R.E. class reference. Biggest waste of time ever. - grizzlyb3ar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5UK, not US
I would say your bias is showing, but it would only cause you to look down... - Hawk2007, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3After they ran that article stating 200,000 people work in the ipod plant in china, macworld.co.uk has some huge credibility issues with me.
- OBKenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3
at least he doesnt:
smoke cigarettes or marijuana.
use drugs.
LOL. How many James Bond films have you seen?
http://www.lobosco.com/root/images/smoking/connery_2.jpg
And here's Sean Connery on drugs:
http://images1.moviemarket.co.uk/library/photos/228/228528.jpg - daines88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I really don't see why this is such a big deal, Macs have always been used in the movie / entertainment industry (along with linux).
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5does it double as a gun?
- EBFoxbat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I find the need to point out that just because it's 45 MB per frame, doesn't mean that after its enhanced and encoded, it'll be a big file. I mean you could enhance it and then encode it as a divX and be happy.
45 mb per frame * 24 frames per second * 60 seconds per minute = 64.8 gb per minute of film
64.8 gb * 90 minutes = 5832 gb
5832 gb = 5.7 Tb.
You'll have to wait for Blu-Ray v 2.2 with the 6 TB disks if you want menues in your rip. - paolonorte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Connery fans should check out Zardoz, a pre-star wars science fiction film. He's hairy, he's dumb, he wears a dress. Special effects are supercheezy, but despite all that, it's a great film...
- ModernTenshi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2From the article, ". . . and this time the infamous secret service spy isn't just licensed to kill, he's also licensed to Mac."
Um, he's always gotten his mac on, in pretty much every movie in fact . . . . - pype, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5Just download them like everyone else
- MotownAvi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Similar article on Apple's site about Lowry's work for the Indiana Jones movies: http://www.apple.com/pro/film/lowry/
- DaWolfman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2A few things:
1. I sure hope they save it as progressive scan this time around.
2. Does anyone else think the title "License to Mac" is incredibly stupid? (Not insulting you, Dakoman, just Macworld)
3. I want to see some before/after shots!!! - carguy84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dust, check
scratches, check
scanning, no
but you do have corrupt data to content with. - kitsune111, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It would not have takin any less PCs then MACs to do this. when it comes to how much HD space a file takes it is the smae on both computers.
And this is why they use MACs over PCs. "Apple is our defacto solution," he said. "Costs of ownership include repair, power and heat demands. Power is a big issue for us, as we are based in South California. We basically look at how many gigaflops of computing performance we get per operating dollar." - jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I love how people are digging you up when you bashed G5's, and they say Digg is full of Apple fans.
- mrmidgetman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"James Bond was a misogynist, a womanizer and a drunk. It's a shame they still play those awful movies on television."
Thats why we all love the movies. (at least the cool ones liek me) - nerdofnerds, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Time for a remake of the game goldeneye...
- diafel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Seems like the HDTV versions are already on alt.binaries.hdtv
- crossthread, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Damn. If only they'd thought of using digital cameras in the 60s. And the 70s. Oh, and the 80s and 90s, too.
- jonom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@OBKenobi
Lol - that shot of Connery from Zardoz is great! Haven't seen that movie in years... - gypsyjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Licence to shill
- Prometheus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it's appropriate if it's supposed to have the double meaning of using macs to clean up the film and the fact that Bond is always macing on the ladies...
- Prod_Deity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And have it suck as much as the other recent Bond games? You have got to be kidding.
It's best to keep it the way it is. -
