- Pliep, on 10/12/2007, -1/+36This is non-news. JahJah works with any browser and just let's you enter 2 phone numbers:
One of yourself and one number of the person you want to call.
Their server then calls both numbers and connects them while billing you through the JahJah system.
This is NO VOIP call, you will be called through a regular SIM card subscription on your mobile.
This works with ANY mobile or land line and ANY browser. - draegloth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20We're trusting news from someone named "Jar Jar"?
Meesa not gonna buy it. - r©ain, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17I just got off the phone with "Stevie" and he says go for it. ;)
In fact, Apple is counting on VOIP usage on their phone.
That's why it supports WiFi in v1.0
Motorola and others are already planning a wave of wifi phones to leverage VOIP over WiMax
Not including support for this very obvious future trend for non-cellular based wireless telephony services would be idiotic... and in Apples case, sheer insanity and a sign the end was at hand.
You think Apple loves Cingular/AT&T or any cellular service provider?
Hell no. They just want to make a great product. Fact is, dealing with the carriers is a total pain in the arse and Apple's taking the Heat for not bending over and taking hot cellular sausage from Verizon and others.
Mention the iPhone and a thousand diggers cry out in unison "Apple the suxo0rz! Me hate Cingular! Screw U Apple!"
Well, WiMax isn't out yet and Apple can't afford to wait. But when it is, iPhone will be there to provide you a very cool device without a cellular contract. And it's then that the iPhone nay sayers will eat crow when they realize the iPhone is a kick ass little handheld that essentially functions as a handheld computer connected to the net via a city wide WiMax connection (30 mile radius!).
And just wait till you have the full on multiuser video conferencing in iChat happening on that bitchin hot screen.
People without one will definitely be feeling left out since it will likely surplant the conference bridge 1-800 number for small size meetings due to cost and convenience factors as the devices take hold at the executive level. - r©ain, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12lol @GutterPunk.
Actually I do feel persecuted by Windows fanboys, it's tiring listening to their lame ass and misinformed reasons for hating on the Mac.
Never do I hear "I don't like Macs, just a personal preference".
It's always line after line of FUD, myths and emotion filled nonsense. - reviewer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+81. This was news on January 9! http://blog.jajah.com/index.php?/archives/172-Apple-iPhone-+-Jajah.html
2. Jajah doesn't offer VoIP (as stated by Pliep)
Sorry, but no digg! - joerod, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4when i can run skype on the iphone wake me up.
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Sorry to be the one to tell you, but WiMax will never "arrive" - it is dead on the vine.
- r©ain, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@superkendall: got some facts to back that up with?
WiMax is dead because... Ohh that's right because Qualcomm says it is.
And while 802.20 will surplant 802.16e, that doesn't mean we'll never have mobile wireless broadband. - saturnstar, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1Guys, check out this review of best iphone download sites. You can find

"I don't see the point in this? Apple is NOT selling their phones to anyone that doesn't sign up for a 2 year service plan. So why would anyone use VOIP?"
You need to understand what Jajah is. The call does not terminate to IP which is why the call is NOT VoIP. Both the caller and receiver are terminated in TDM (fixed line or mobile) so it's just like a regular call via telephone/mobile line. What Jajah does is it allows the use of traditional phone/mobile to place a call, they will handle the connection between the telephone carriers of your phone and the person you are calling. That connection is over IP...hence you are saving or free calls (if both numbers are registered) on long distance calls. Relating to iPhone or any mobile phone, you will pay for the call as it will be treated as a local call, but what you will save is on long distance calls (free or lower rates). - airiox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I don't see the point in this?
Apple is NOT selling their phones to anyone that doesn't sign up for a 2 year service plan. So why would anyone use VOIP? - Hazardc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2that literally made me LOL.
i could just picture some kid on campus telling me all of this in some douchey fanboy tone, under the assumtion that they know all this stuff everyone else doesnt already know and desperately dont understand why everyone else isnt buying into the hype - r©ain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@airiox: Apple is not the ones requiring the contract. Cingular is.
And VOIP over WiFi makes sense, esecially if you make international calls.
The rates from Skype and others are far less than the international rates from a mobile carrier.
Right now Cingular has an exclusive on the iPhone. That will end however once WiMax starts emerging.
Then you'll be able to get them at the Apple store without a Cingular account attached.
And at that point even if you do want to continue with Cngular, you'll be able to drop your calling plan to something in the sub-$50.00 a month range and start relying mainly on wimax networks, using the cell service only when there is no wifi/wimax available. - thebog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have been using JaJah with my HP iPaq 6325 for months - great service, saves me $$$ every month calling Toronto and Detroit several times a month. Get your business and friends an account and the calls are free (otherwise about 2¢ a minute). GrandCentral for incoming - JaJah for outgoing... and yes the previous comment is correct, the calls are direct to your (any) phone, clear, not an internet VoIP line at home...
- washcapsfan37, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Yeah, cuz that's all it is. A phone.
... and a PDA with email and web browser support.
... and a video/media device for widescreen movies and MP3s.
... and a mini computer capable of accessing the Internet through WiFi.
... and it has 8 GB of memory.
... and the largest screen of any phone (and it's a touch screen.)
Yup, just a phone.
[/sarcasm] - Gutterpunk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Dude, we essentially say the same thing, but I get digged down, and you get digged up.
Don't tell me that windows fanbois are controlling Digg, or that Mac lovers need to feel persecuted. I don't personnaly care, I use a iBook, Ubuntu on my main machine and WinXP tablet edition on my tablet pc (only because no Lunix distro support tablets) but the Mac fan base on Digg is way stronger than the Window one, and its probably due to all the Mac communities leaking out here. There is no "pc" communities per say. - nfotxn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1I think Apple is saying "How heck do you know it works JAJAH? You don't have an iPhone".
- Hazardc, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Nothing screams innovative like spending 600 dollars on a cell phone to save a few pennies on a few phone calls.... when you happen to be in a wifi area.
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1How is it non-news, when it points out you can do something (VOIP calls) that lots of people have been screaming because they cannot install software to do?
Furthermore this is actually a little more useful for cell phone owners because if you are in an area where you can only get low data rates, then VOIP still works whereas someone with a "better" phone that let them install a VOIP client would be out of luck.
Money saved is money saved, who cares if it was saved through installing an app on your phone or not?
This brings up a point I've been saying since the iPhone was first announced, having a real browser goes a long way towards being able to do things that traditionally you would have had to install third party apps for. Thus it makes lots of sense to support a data network standard - Edge - that has a far wider distribution than 3G. Low connectivity beats no connectivity. - phmcd10, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0More iPhone news and updates here!
