- inactive, on 12/15/2007, -1/+24Summary of Article: "Don't listen to everyone's speculation! Listen to MY speculation!"
Buried. - kalkin, on 12/15/2007, -3/+17"I’m not a psychic, and I don’t have any inside information"
at this point i stopped reading. - zomgz, on 12/15/2007, -5/+19*YAWN*
- antitab, on 12/15/2007, -0/+13"Final Cut Studio 2 won't run on the Intel integrated graphics of the MacBook"
... Then how is it running on my MacBook right now? - inactive, on 12/15/2007, -0/+13What a stupid article.
- DagMX, on 12/15/2007, -1/+12does 1.3" really make such a damn difference?
- inactive, on 12/15/2007, -4/+14I own a MacBook Pro and love Apple hardware as much as the next but:
"I’m not a psychic, and I don’t have any inside information. I can’t tell you for sure what’s going to happen at Macworld anymore than anyone else can…but I have a strong gut feeling"
Buried. - darundal, on 12/15/2007, -0/+7That's not a notebook, that's an identity crises.
- MBX1, on 12/15/2007, -3/+10Are we seeing consumer stuff once again at macworld instead of some more pro stuff?
Come on apple, last year i was happy to see the iphone. But why don't you present redesigned mac pro's, new cinema displays, maybe even redesigned macbook pro's? - kent1146, on 12/15/2007, -11/+18Apple... think different.... like everyone else.
- rickbauls, on 12/15/2007, -2/+8The standard business class laptop has had the 14 inch lcds for quite a few years now. The 12 inch screens were just considered ultra-portables. Anything smaller than the ultra-portable is a sub notebook. How is this an argument? How is this worthy of front page news?
- mmgm, on 12/15/2007, -2/+7WTF is this idiot trying to say?
- inactive, on 12/15/2007, -0/+5This site is bad, trying to counter unsubstantiated crap with more unsubstantiated crap. Buried as inaccurate.
- vertinox, on 12/15/2007, -3/+8So horrible.
- manitoba98xp, on 12/15/2007, -0/+4"Subpro"? If Apple did release a sub-notebook (and I doubt they will soon, I suspect this is just a new Macbook, as the article says), they'd use an existing suffix from their product line...most likely the "Macbook Nano".
- johnpaul191, on 12/15/2007, -0/+4i like the current container for the Mac Pro and the cinema displays. they can upgrade the innards, but the outsides are fine. unless they can make the whole thing smaller, it's not an issue to me.
- inactive, on 12/15/2007, -0/+4No, it's not. Now the trend is name every 12" (and below) laptop as a subnotebook but they aren't, that's the point of this article and it got my digg.
This subnotebook trend just prove that the vast majority of laptops aren't portable anymore. - FoxOrian, on 12/15/2007, -0/+3Then... You have already bought a Mac with a 12" screen. You just said so yourself...?
- inactive, on 12/15/2007, -0/+3I chuckled...
- Draracle, on 12/15/2007, -1/+4Too bad it is a Dell.
- streak, on 12/15/2007, -0/+2I expect your ass to be dugg down. Thanks for sticking it up.
- tkw722, on 12/15/2007, -0/+2I really can't see it being an updated version of the macbooks. If it has a solid state drive in it, there is no way they're going to have the similar hard drive sizes of the current macbooks for a reasonable price using solid state. I don't see how they would be able to sell it for $1500. In addition to that, the macbook is Apple's most aggressively priced laptop at just above $1000. I don't see them giving up that price point any time soon. I really do think this is an addition to the lineup.
- FullBleed, on 12/15/2007, -1/+3My eyes, the goggles do nothing!
- Frostman3D, on 12/15/2007, -8/+10Um... Wordpress sux.
- Verdanic, on 12/15/2007, -0/+2You're a ***** moron.
- ucg1, on 12/15/2007, -2/+4I don't know about the guy you were replying to, but here's my take: Sure there's the MacBook 13", but the problem is there isn't a MacBook Pro with a smaller screen. The MacBook (non-Pro) isn't feasible for a lot of people because they really need the MBP. For example, Final Cut Studio 2 won't run on the Intel integrated graphics of the MacBook (or Mac Mini). There's also a few other things from the MBP that are desirable over the MacBook (faster CPU's, FW800, non-glossy display option, better display in general, dual-link DVI support).
So those with the 12" PowerBook don't have an adequate replacement. Maybe they are having heat issues or something which is preventing them from releasing a smaller MBP that is as powerful as the 15" (or at least close to it). - LuCiFer6, on 12/15/2007, -1/+3It's not an updated MacBook because they just updated the MacBooks with the Santa Rosa chips. So it looks like a new line of laptops from Apple.
- inactive, on 12/15/2007, -0/+2You Apple consumers always say that Apple is innovative and I think that bringing a MBP with a solid state drive will be innovative, the good part of that will be that the other laptop manufacturers will follow the trend making the SSD technology go cheaper :)
- Dgen_X, on 12/15/2007, -0/+2too bad it's a joke.....hopefully
- manitoba98xp, on 12/15/2007, -0/+2No, I think Apple will continue with the distinction between their "consumer" and "pro" lines. I expect them to become more visually similar as Apple incorporates their "aluminum and glass" look into each, but still distinct.
- Smoozle, on 12/15/2007, -0/+2The author means LED backlit LCDs.
- streak, on 12/15/2007, -0/+2Having a metal case, it will be a MacBook Pro. It will therefore have discrete graphics, dual-link DVI out, Firewire 800, backlit keyboard, choice of matte or glossy display, and.... an HDD that's not user replaceable ;-)
- BlackStrain, on 12/15/2007, -0/+2Those things are loud as hell.
- inactive, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1Yea, but that was like 4 years ago. I want a mac book pro thats 12" or 13.2 or whatever.
- johnpaul191, on 12/15/2007, -1/+2actually..... a lot of people will not call them "laptops" anymore. the term has been "notebook" for a few years, and iirc it's because the lawyers are concerned about the manufacturers encouraging people to leave the things on their laps.
as far as MacBook vs MacBook Pro...... the major difference as of today is metal case vs plastic. i think i prefer the plastic for durability. metal looks better, but i see so many that have taken a plunge and are dinged up or split along an edge. - inactive, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1Bah, once uppon a time there was a 12" Powerbook, and since the transition to intel, this is no more. For a long time a lot of people have longed for a compact "pro" laptop, which this might be.
I think you a have a bit much of a bias towards Macintosh users; the percentage of loud cheapass fanboys is just the same as on the windows camp. - manitoba98xp, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1I know that. Did it occur to you that they might change the design? Six months ago, the iMac didn't have a metal case either.
- ucg1, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1I believe even the 12" PowerBook was less powerful than the 15"/17" models. Even if they put in a slower CPU, but had all the other features of the MBP (especially better graphics), I think a lot of people would be interested in a smaller MBP. But graphics may still be a problem in a smaller form factor.
- TheBigSquid, on 12/15/2007, -1/+2But everyone still uses Windows.
- streak, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1While for anyone adept at computer repairs it's easy to replace an HDD in a MBP, Apple doesn't provide instructions for it and doesn't classify the HDD as user replaceable. In contrast, Apple does provide instructions for replacing the HDD in a MacBook, where the procedure could hardly be easier and doesn't involve opening up the case.
- BlackStrain, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1It seems too early for me for them to go with solid state and remove the DVD drive from the Macbook. I think it's more likely that they will temporarily have a new model and then phase out the Macbook over the next year or two.
- johnpaul191, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1eh, Apple has done relatively minor speed bumps only to do a big upgrade 2 or 3 months later. the average consumer probably has no idea about the Santa Rosa upgrade, so it's not much of an issue.
- streak, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1An "average" windows notebook that runs windows faster than any other laptop (PC World).
- inactive, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1It's pretty obvious. Apple calls their laptops "MacBook" and therefore, this one, be it large or small, will be called Macbook, and not subnotebook.
Simple. - inactive, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1Actually, I was reading this and I thought it was obvious that the iFanboys have a serious case of envy that the hotest portable product right now is the eee PC, and they are hoping apple releases one in January.
- streak, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1With a metal case, it sounds like a replacement (finally) for the discontinued 12" PowerBook. That would make it a MacBook Pro.
- SSUK, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1It's not a notebook, it's a *****' jet engine. And you think I'm bloody joking.
- streak, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1MacBooks don't have metal cases.
- redfan, on 12/15/2007, -0/+1"but I have a strong gut feeling"
