- fanboydcs, on 10/12/2007, -4/+49yeah and thats why yesterday they released the battery update 1.1. Install that.. Problem solved! OH My!
- Krakn3Dfx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22"Mac user Dave Verwer spotted his battery bulging"
I'm sure it was just happy to see him. - Wonkanobi, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23I have a MacBook Pro and my battery would only keep the computer running for about five minutes once unplugged, even though the meter said it was full. According to the Apple website my battery (at least according to serial number) wasn't included in the recall. I called Apple and they shipped me a new one that day, free of charge. I've had no problems since.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -3/+15Your debit card isn't backed by one of the Credit card companies? Unless it is just an ATM card it should have a Credit Card logo and work just like a credit card.
- admirabumblebee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Same for me.
My battery would only last for a few minutes after being unplugged and so i called apple at 5pm eastern, the guy asked if i did the various troubleshooting steps (I had).
He said a new battery is on the way. At 7:10am (14 hours later) I had a new battery. It's worked perfectly ever since! And now after the new update, my battery lasts even longer. Listening to music, browsing the web and working in Final Cut I can get a solid 3 hours on battery. Absolutely awesome! - lickmygiggle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11@solarwinds
***** other computer companies care about the consumer. I had an HP laptop that needed the power supply replaced 3 times over the course of a month. EVERY ***** TIME I wanted to have it serviced by HP, they resisted and made accusations of me damaging the computer myself. The final time, they refused to believe that I had nothing to do with the power supplyr being retarded (honestly, what can the normal consumer do to a power supply 3 times?) and they wanted to charge me a quarter the cost of the laptop to fix it.
I now have a MacBook, and a few weeks ago the plug started to melt from the inside out. I went to the genius bar and literally said all of 4 words to the genius there and I walked away with a brand new power adapter free of charge.
Yeah you know what? Apple does suck. ***** them for being so nice, and actually giving a ***** about losing customers. - sondunoneblood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8as long as you debit card has a master card, visa, amex, or discover they should be able to take it, call them back
- frodsteamin2, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13no credit card? it is 2007 buddy
- falafeljack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7My Macbook pro CD was having major "performance issues" related to the battery. I did the deep sleep power charge cycle thingy and even after all that, my mac would tell me that 2:45hrs were left and then after an hour it would shut off. I flipped it over and the meter on the battery showed 3 dots left. i tried to power it on and it still wouldnt turn on. coconutbattery showed that the capacity of the battery was below 2400 from the original 5548. anywhoooo, i installed the "Fix" and it made things even worse. after 20 min on the battery, my mac would shut off. so, i took it to the apple store, in twenty minutes i had left with a BRAND NEW battery. bottom line, apple is awesome and the stock is over $100/share. WOOHOO!
- wordsofwisedumb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8They always accepted my debit card for part exchanges...
- pjisback, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8They took my debit card number when replacing my macbook pro's battery a couple months ago.
- frofro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6My macbook battery died a month ago. Brought it to the Apple Store and they replaced it on the spot.
- danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6My battery had the big red X problem. The computer didn't even think it had a battery plugged in. If it got unplugged the whole system immediately turned off. Ten minutes after walking into an Apple store and I walked out with a brand new battery and have had no problem since.
- LeonardNimrod, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Don't blame Apple, blame Sony.
Even though Apple was the first to jump into Li-Poly-Ion, Sony is pushing everyone into it. Li-Ion is likely to explode when defective, while Li-Poly will swell.
Of the 1M+ notebooks sold last quarter how many are having problems? Not many. How about for the entire notebook industry? Again, not many. I'm not a Sony apologist, but I think Sony has done a decent job of fixing its previous issue. - skoot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5took my macbook in for this "situation" 2 months ago - 3 other macbooks (regular) ahead of me @ the Genius Bar for the same symptoms. battery wouldn't show/charge. they replaced the battery AND the whole logic board in my machine. again.
- InSeverance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5As a student the last thing I need is to be putting things on credit :p
It's an HSBC Switch card, but looks like a trip to London sometime is the only way of getting it sorted.
Cheers anyways - Firehed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It probably recalibrates the battery the first cycle or two, so you might expect a weird reading during that time.
However, that's complete speculation, and no, I haven't yet applied the update. - mannymix03, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5if you go to an apple store they replace it there inserverance, its a dumb policy, and i had to go through the whole process as well (my battery had the same problem yours has) , but it worked out for me
- willgonz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Call Apple, Go to an Apple Store, or a place that sells Apple hardware and turn in your battery. If you have a place that will not take your battery, report them to Apple.
Case closed. - directive0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Here you go man. http://www.digg.com/how
- Flyinace2000, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5http://digg.com/apple/Apple_says_some_notebooks_may_have_battery_issues
Sounds familiar. - Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm not an apple owner, but between a cell phone I recently returned and anecdotal evidence from colleagues, software seems to screw up batteries more often than defects in the hardware...
...aside from when someone accidentally pulls the pin on their Sony laptop ni-cad. :) - ContinuumXLS, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm in class right now...
- InSeverance, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11My battery wouldn't be recognised by my Macbook on Friday - but if you don't have a credit card (and just a debit card like me), and no one you know is willing to share their details, good luck trying to get it replaced. Spent 30 minutes on the phone today trying to convince them that I'd send it back (the battery)...but to no avail.
Ironic given that I've bought a lot of stuff from the Apple store on that debit card, but now aren't willing to accept it...
/ end troll - soapdev, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4My battery was basically fine, until AFTER I installed the battery update.
Now that I updated, my battery quickly drains out for no reason. For example, it'll suddenly jump from 40% down to 10% for no reason. I think numerous people are having this problem too! - renzien, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The update didn't work for me. It returned error number 09 F9 11 02 9D 74 E3 5B D8 41 56 C5 63 56 88 C0. Has anyone else had this problem?
- HappyPig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Both my MacBook Pro and MacBook had this issue separated by a week. Both times the Apple tech support guys were very polite and attentive and in under ten minutes had new batteries ordered to me. Apple did the right thing on this - I'm very satisfied.
- tdamore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My macbook battery stopped showing up in the menu bar yesterday morning. I took it over to my local apple store last night and had a replacement in about 30 minutes. According to the guy working the genius bar the batteries get discharged past the point of return and can't be charged (I left mine on standby for a week while on vacation). The update is supposed to fix that providing that it gets applied before your battery gets to that point.
- tim507, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2my mbp battery was bulging. apple care took care of that, problem solved.
- tekhna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I am halfway around the world with no Apple store anywhere near me, anyone know if they will ship a battery internationally? Or how to get ahold of them without calling, as it is incredibly expensive so spend 30 minutes on hold.
Sorry if this is comment abuse. - lateralus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My battery is just fine. Oh wait, I have an 8-core MacPro. Carry on, commoners.
- Platypus3333, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah, but it's about a software update released around yesterday...
- supermanred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Apple has been great to me with my 3 previous iPods (all still work and have found new homes in my circle of friends). Because of this great service with the ipods, I decided my new computer would be a macbook, seeing as I could still run Windows and "try out" OS X. Well, I havent booted vista since installing it, pretty much.
My battery now wears down very quickly, a lot faster than what it should but I am not worried. I am sure the nice people at the Apple store will take care of me with a new replacement battery. They once took in an ipod for repair and I received a duplicate replacement the next MORNING at 8am by courier.
Keep up the good customer service Apple, we appreciate it. More companies should follow in your example! - ExSlashdotter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i'm probably the only one here can offer some less-anecdotal evidence...
We buy macbooks at work on the order of 70 per week. On top of that, I'm the network admin, and I also buy around 7 macbooks per week for internal use (i've issue around 65 to internal employees).
I would say that 1 out of 6 macbooks have a battery failure. To apple's credit though, each time i call, they send me a new battery within a day or two (i ship the dead battery back in the box for free). Yeah, its been a pain, but apple's been great about it (of course, that may be also because we're a VAR) - lateralus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm teaching right now!!!!! argh1
- BrewmasterC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This just happened to me today. Last night I updated the last 4 patches, and today my battery is dead. Coincidence? Argh! Now I have to travel an hour and a half round trip to get it fixed before the 1 year warranty runs out in a few weeks.
- jydesign, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16 months into life, my Macbook battery just died, it was replaced under the original one year warranty - but that left me w/o a laptop for a number of days until the battery arrived. In addition, the trackpad had to be replaced almost immediately after purchase for a faulty click-button. Also, when I brought it it for the battery issue the kind folks at the local Mac Store told me they'd also grab me a new keypad-palmrest area since it was suffering from the whole discoloring issue. After all that, I went and bought Apple care on this thing because who knows? I've been buying Macs since the early 90's and this is the first one I ever bought Apple care for because it has been so sketchy. Sad thing is, that's probably a good thing from Apple's perspective ;)
- gaucho4, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, my MacBook Pro's battery is working just fine.
- newstart, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5hang in there man, you'll get thru it.
- themonkman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I had no problem getting my AC adapter brick replaced with debit card. As long as your debit card is a Visa or Mastercard one, Apple doesn't know the difference. If it is labeled with MC or Visa, and they ask if it's a credit or debit, just tell them it's credit. Problem solved.
- willgonz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have seen worse problems with some HP Laptops. We have mostly Dells. Main problems. USB will die, but only when docked, try another docking station and still no go something when the motherboard. Second thing is the laptop refuses to charge a single battery, turns out to be a motherboard board. On HP's I have seen a ton of screens go out. Still, Macs hold their value longer. Check ebay for a Latitude D610. Now check for a MacBook Intel and see the difference. Back then you might have spent $1,099 for a Macbook and $1,600 for a Dell latitude D610.
- fEaRlEsSmOrOn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I installed the battery update 2 days ago and now the system showing I have 3h 17 mins of battery run time instead of 2 hours like usual. The battery update works pretty well.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4Slow news day BBC? This article is about diagnosed and recognised problems bundled with consumer complaints from July of last year.
- NYCPALADIN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Had the same problem with my battery and even though it wasn't listed on the recall, I spoke to Apple and let them know that I ran through the steps they had in support. Within minutes they were sending out a new battery. Got it the next day and I'm a happy camper. Of course everyone I knew that had a PC was making fun of the fact I had an issue with my Macbook Pro but was surprised by the quick turn around time. I switched to apple over a year ago and I can say I won't go back.
- batteryland, on 11/21/2008, -0/+0http://www.laptopbatteryweb.com/apple.htm
wonderful apple laptop battery - valentine76, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1The lemon: A large, fresh, "juicy" lemon works best.
The nail: Galvanized nails are coated in zinc. I used a 2" galvanized common nail.
The penny: Any copper coin will work. (Canadian pennies from 1960 - 2001 all worked)
Creating the battery: Insert a penny into a cut on one side of the lemon. Push a galvanized nail into the other side of the lemon.
The nail and penny must not touch. - centerblack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0How about the grainy graphics when booted into XP on a MacBookPro? :/
- moog55, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2apple quality sure seems to be going into the crapper lately. hinge problems, humming, batteries, stress cracks, power button mis-alignment, flickering screens, dead pixels, etc. i guess that's what happens when the macbooks are lower priority to apple compared to the ipods.
- digitalarcanum, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3There's that apple quality control for you again. Everybody complains that dell uses bottom of the barrel hardware.. At least their ***** runs, barring the Sony battery recall which affected Apple laptops as well. Digg me down if you want, but you know apple has quality control issues. I've seen more stories about apple hardware defects, flaws and over all problems than i have from any other hardware vendor mentioned here on digg.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7You Apple fanboys make it sound like Apple is the only computer company which gives you a replacement computer when you have a problem.
Well, Dell gave me a free monitor when the one they shipped me didn't turn on........so I really don't think Apple was just being nice to you. It's standard for companies to do these kind of things.........it's also good public relations -
