- MCA2142, on 01/04/2009, -1/+31. Yes. Steve is a Marketing guy.
2. But his input has a lot to do with the product evolution at Apple.
3. After years at Apple's helm, Jobs is indeed a techie.
4. A guy I know who works at McDonalds wrote that article on Wikipedia(joking, but you get the point).
5. Your login name is XPpro. - cambrown99, on 01/05/2009, -0/+2That would be the greatest 'One More Thing...' ever.
If Bush had appointed a CTO, I bet he would have picked Balmer. - kinseyincanada, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1yea i dont think so.
- mykbibby, on 01/05/2009, -0/+1Or how bad they don't want him to die? I think that's a better explanation.
- inactive, on 01/04/2009, -0/+1Oh I hope not. Steve Jobs makes great computers, but he's a jackass.
- cquinnd, on 01/04/2009, -1/+2From that Wikipedia article:
"Jobs attended Cupertino Junior High School and Homestead High School in Cupertino, California,[12] and frequented after-school lectures at the Hewlett-Packard Company in Palo Alto, California. He was soon hired there and worked with Steve Wozniak as a summer employee.[14] In 1972, Jobs graduated from high school and enrolled in Reed College in Portland, Oregon. Although he dropped out after only one semester,[15] he continued auditing classes at Reed, such as one in calligraphy. "If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts", he said.[16]
In the autumn of 1974, Jobs returned to California and began attending meetings of the Homebrew Computer Club with Steve Wozniak. He took a job as a technician at Atari, a manufacturer of popular video games, with the primary intent of saving money for a spiritual retreat to India."
I disagree with the impression that Jobs single handedly creates all the successful technology that comes out of Apple, but there is every indication that he was a techie, both educated in the field and as a hobbyist.
MCA2142 , the years at Apple's helm make him less of a techie, and more of a general manager. He does still try to guide the "vision" of Apple products and services, but that can work against him as much as it has worked for them. - Hortnon, on 01/04/2009, -1/+2And that's saying a lot...
- scooterbaga, on 01/04/2009, -3/+3Sure thing... you first.
- maxpower2911, on 01/05/2009, -2/+2The mere fact that someone wrote this article sickens me with how bad people want to suck Jobs' dick.
- vault, on 01/04/2009, -3/+2Single dumbest mac prediction of all time.
- ryan83189, on 01/04/2009, -3/+2Obama + Jobs speculation = front page fanboy splougefest of epic proportions with speculation even more insane than the article.
- poprocksandsoda, on 01/04/2009, -2/+1I have to come out of retirement from posting just to say this may be the dumbest idea in the history of the world. Steve Jobs has done nothing but create solutions for the technology impaired & Starbucks chucking Graphic Artists for the last 3 decades. Apple's proliferation of closed and featureless proprietary hardware & software have set back US IT skillsets decades. Had US schools not been loaded with useless Apple IIs and Macs all these years it's very likely there would be no outsourcing of work to countries where business-level PCs have been the bread and butter.
- XPpro, on 01/04/2009, -3/+1Here's a dumb question, what the heck does Jobs know about technology?
I've been going through Steve Jobs' wiki page and it would seem that the guy isn't even a techie, neither educated in the field nor a hobbyist. He seems to be a good salesman at best, more like a PR guy. Correct me if I'm wrong. (I get the feeling there are going to be many volunteers)

"Jobs had little interest or knowledge in circuit board design and made a deal with Wozniak to split the bonus evenly between them if Wozniak could minimize the number of chips." - cowboy86, on 01/04/2009, -3/+1I think you mean more gay.

- dnasty27, on 01/04/2009, -9/+5OMG! That would be awesome. He would actually have some ideas to bring America to the forefront of technology again. I think this sounds awesome and I don't even like apple that much.
