Is Apple trying to fool the world?
operawatch.com — Is Steve Jobs out of his mind? Is he trying to fool the world into thinking that Apple is the one to be so innovative in bringing the Web to the living room, or to the cell phone in one's pocket - when Opera Software has been doing that all along...

- mujahid7ia, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Opera is a great browser. They have been at the forefront of innovation for a long time; unfortunately, they are ignored.
- Pliep, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1Ha! Does anyone notice that the Wii has nowhere near HD-quality and the browser is very limited (eg it is a mobile browser).
You guys obviously have never seen nor used the Apple TV.- RADicalSatDude, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I agree the Wii doesn't do HiDef, but the Wii is capable of outputting a 480p (EDTV) signal. Via component output which is well enough certainly for You Tube videos which are only 320 by 240 and a use 25 frames per second, according to Wikipedia.
- howie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3What do you mean by "limited"?
It's far less "limited" than having no browser, that's for sure :D
- Ausare, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6Pliep: So? That doesn't make it ok to lie when marketing a product.
- RemyLogan, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1While Opera has been in the forefront of developing cool features, I think overall the browser sucks, which is why they can't gain traction with their innovative features. Of course having a free (as in beer) Firefox with all those great extensions getting all the press way back when tech types were looking for a free alternative to IE didn't help either. They should have gone free and dumped the ad supported model much earlier. But, if they'd done that they would have gone out of business. Opera has found its niche and will never break out of it. Ironically, they have to keep innovating just to stay relevant.
- citsym, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2In last six months Fx market share has increased by about 5%. Opera on the other hand has failed to even gain 2% marketshare in last 2 years. Why?
Simple : Extensions.
Power users and opinion makers (they guys who are really helping in spreading firefox) wont use Opera because of lack of extensions. Extensions are the only reason Fx is able to compete with Opera.
Opera developers are also living in an alternate reality like Steve Jobs. - howie, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2There are lots of ways to extend Opera, citsym. Most of the popular extensions for Firefox are already available in Opera, or are possible to do using custom menus, toolbars, buttons or User JavaScript.
How does Opera suck, remylogan? It's smaller, faster, and more secure than other browsers. Firefox uses tons more memory than Opera, is a bigger download, and is quite a bit slower, especially the UI. So what is so bad about Opera? - SuitCase874, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I'm pretty sure the reason Firefox has done well has nothing to do with extensions. Opera is very customisable too and has an interface that's incredibly adaptable, yet nobody cares about that. The main reason Firefox has done well is marketing, timing and the open source gimmick. Opera kinda missed the boat by being ad-supported for most of the time Firefox was establishing its brand, and also by being fairly power-user-centric up until the point it went free (around Opera 8.)
- jp10558, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0First - why can't I reply to a reply? Second:
I don't know about that - I'm a power user, and I use Opera extensively. As others said, one reason Opera stayed small before going ad free was it was power user focused. I see a lot more people being aware of Opera at the least compared to back in 2002 or so. I'd much rather that any browser keep innovating, but sure, the innovation keeps Opera relevant. So does the mobile and device userbase.

- DjiXas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Althought I am a big fan of Opera, but whenever someone posts negative stuff about it, there comes Daniel (no offense) with some article about how “stupid” that person is, etc. ;-/
- jp10558, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0I'm not really sure I see that so much, but I also think Daniel is equivelent to FireFox's Asta... So we get it from both sides, and I expect to some extent each of them embarrases the users.
- DjiXas, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Hm... just readed "another opinion" and realised how ... the person who wrote that is (not Daniel, the one, which says "Our products will be the first to allow normal, non-loser people to do these things." an idiot.
... - thegreatanti, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0As a comment posted there, this guy said it exactly right:
"And this is why opera will never be taken seriously by me or several thousand other users and will always remain a NICHE browser at best. They seem to be so full of themselves that any comment negatively against them will result in “articles” like this which insult the user who made the comment."- jp10558, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Asking people to get facts right (not even expecting Opera to be the correct answer - see TV out from a PC for instance!) is full of themselves? As I've posted before, is this much different (actually, in general more polite IMHO) than Asta's rants?
Indeed, as many have found out with Apple and Linux, basing your use of a product on how a few other users act is usually a bad idea.
