- somestranger26, on 08/12/2008, -8/+97Why is this in the Apple section, and why did someone link to an article on an Apple site, when it's all over HARDWARE sites? Buried.

Nehalem (7) - inactive, on 08/11/2008, -2/+56Dugg. I can't seem to get enough stories on the latest hardware - mainly cpus and gpus.
- ynggrsshppr, on 08/12/2008, -1/+45"i" anything has got to be Apple, right?
- wonderchemist, on 08/12/2008, -0/+39iDunno

- ziptnf, on 08/12/2008, -2/+37I love how these stories are like "yeah, it's coming, but we can't tell you dick about it."
I want my 5 seconds back. - iatebabies, on 08/12/2008, -1/+29no more FSB, thank god.
- lunarworks, on 08/12/2008, -0/+26I wonder if Apple will retroactively sue them for the i386 and i486 processors.
Get a clue. - thall, on 08/12/2008, -1/+25Yeah they broke the sequence, remember where "Pentium" came from:
186
286
386
486
Pentium (586)
Pentium 2
... - synystar, on 08/12/2008, -1/+25Well at least they didn't call it the iCore.
- hebejebelus, on 08/12/2008, -1/+23Complex numbers! 8D
- TheInformer, on 08/12/2008, -1/+19Nice break from all of the political rubbish.
- tama00, on 08/12/2008, -2/+18When will AMD make a move?
They better soon or else ill have to come up with my own microprocessor company. - poidh, on 08/12/2008, -0/+16That article had practically *****-all information.
- pwnerofnoobs, on 08/12/2008, -0/+16iconcur.
- sirmasterboy, on 08/12/2008, -0/+15Flagship 3.2Ghz Quad - $999
2.93Ghz Quad - $562
2.66Ghz Quad - $284
They also use less L2 cache but use L3 cache now.
From an early Anandtech review of the 2.66Ghz Nahalem speeds, they said the 2.66Ghz was about on par with a 3.2Ghz Penryn so these prices and speeds look very good for the Nahalem release.

- winmywii, on 08/12/2008, -1/+12Intel's naming conventions suck.
- ScottDaMan, on 08/12/2008, -1/+10Good luck with that.
- wukillabee, on 08/12/2008, -0/+8whens a good time to buy a pc with core 2 duo in it?
im still using 256mb ram pentium 4 pc :( - inactive, on 08/12/2008, -1/+9I didn't realize you had a few billion dollars to build a fab. Oh, you don't...?
- TVarmy, on 08/12/2008, -2/+9We don't talk about those days. Frankly, I don't even remember there was a world without the internet, and it'd hurt society to discus it. You're a brain-terrorist to even discuss such things.
- NecroSexy, on 08/12/2008, -0/+7That which we call a rose by any other name would be just as sweet.
- mufffin, on 08/12/2008, -1/+7Seriously, why was this posted in "Apple"? it has nothing do with it except the "i"
- 5hocker, on 08/11/2008, -0/+6What's in a name?
- ScottDaMan, on 08/12/2008, -0/+6Most importantly, the price drops of the Yorkfields are in. Time to build (for me) since I'm still on a AMD Athlon 2800+. Hehehe
- n8o8, on 08/12/2008, -0/+6Now if they can just do something about "Centrino"
- noseeme, on 08/12/2008, -2/+8I don't see why they couldn't just do "Core 3", and dropped the duo and quad.
- cutchyacokov, on 08/12/2008, -1/+6Phenom's soliloquy:
'Tis but thy name that is my enemy:
Thou art thyself, though not an AMD.
What's AMD? It is nor hand nor foot,
Nor arm nor face, nor any other part
Belonging to a man. O be some other name!
What's in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other word would smell as sweet;
So Core i7 would, were he not Core i7 call'd,
Retain that dear perfection which he owes
Without that title. Core i7, doff thy name,
and for thy name, which is no part of thee,
Take all myself. - Protoss, on 08/12/2008, -0/+5Time it just right after the i7 CPUs are released but not too far after. The price will fall dramatically after the new architecture is out, but wait a month or two longer and the supply will be low on the old models and the price will rise.
I ran into this problem with my 939 AMD build, it's too expensive to upgrade it now. - thetanman, on 08/12/2008, -0/+5I would build one now with an E8400 now unless you need four cores for intensive photoshop stuff, etc. Memory is really cheap now, too.
"Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz Processor (RETAIL) $169.99 Free Shipping"
via techbargains.com... search "e8400" - rkuchiki, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4it could be the i786 architecture, being as Pentium 2 - Current is 686.
- VodkanLemons, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4in order to get more diggs of course
iCaramba - dafragsta, on 08/12/2008, -1/+5rrrrrrrrright.
- Suprfire, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4no. new architecture new socket
- alexforcefive, on 08/12/2008, -0/+4Yeah, but the old line will get a price cut :D
- Coling2k2, on 08/12/2008, -1/+5Or a primary school education
- dafragsta, on 08/12/2008, -4/+8New product costs a lot for a little while? This is news?
- sezzme, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3"Nehalem" eh?
Yet another town in Oregon. A cool coast location! :)
Someone recently explained to me that Intel tends to name their chips after Oregon towns. That explains why they choose "Tualatin" awhile back which is the name of a suburb of Portland, Oregon. When I first saw that, I thought it was a typo. - Suricou, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3Yay, this should drop the Core 2 Quad prices...
But that means waiting until next year.
I have video to encode and furry art to render :( - everlast88, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3i'm on a single core amd althon 64 3700+, my crappy rig was the ***** back in the day
- inactive, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3iretort.
- twigboy, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3finally, a company that uses iSomething in a non-fad manner.
go Intel! - Darkyuubi, on 08/12/2008, -0/+3Except the news is 3 days late.
- xNIBx, on 08/12/2008, -1/+4Duo and quad shows how many cores the cpu has. There will be dual, quad and even 8 core nehalem cpus so duo and quad are essential in the name.
- winmywii, on 08/12/2008, -1/+3Apple owns the lowercase "i". if we post it anywhere else Steve Jobs will cry.
- TVarmy, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2Actually, they're moving to Cyrex processors. Running ARM architecture. Apparently, they were getting a little TOO compatible with Windows.
- synystar, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2True ... I mean when the the Pentium 4 came out I was really confused. I wasn't sure whether or not to upgrade from my Pentium III. It just didn't make sense. Then they started throwing words around like Solo and Duo. What do they expect from me?
- TVarmy, on 08/12/2008, -0/+2He's going to design something much better than a FAB. It wasn't impossible to build Tama Inc.'s biomicrocircuitry lab under the sea, it was impossible to build it anywhere else...
