- allanpat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+38Does anyone else find it pointless to have Full Screen Cover Flow without it being added to Front Row?
Why do I need the covers so large unless I'm controlling it from across the room with my apple remote? - miles01110, on 10/12/2007, -5/+31mdhauke: So is Leopard.
- nene7070, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22@GreyArea-
yeah, the ability to automatically detect if you add music to a folder, and add it to your library- something sorely needed in Itunes, IMHO. - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -6/+24Coverflow is one of those features that, before you use it, you think its ok, but just useless eyecandy. Then, you start using it, and its still eyecandy, but kinda fun. Then you start tracking down all the album/DVD art for all your tracks, just so you don't have to look at those blank pages. Now its full-screen, and still just eye candy, but you start looking for higher res images to complement the full screen view...
- TexanPsycho, on 10/12/2007, -4/+22Not before we get video playback on Shuffles.
- chewy5000, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17Nice finds. Games on Apple TV? I'll buy it if it gets that feature.
- KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12All I want is a section for music videos. Not some bullhonkey Smart Playlist for 'em.
- Radan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@tpaine:
Erm... Have you checked the option "Play Videos: Fullscreen"? - TexanPsycho, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Well, actually, it's Apple TV now.
- TexanPsycho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10I would suggest using the Compilation tickbox.
- 00Sean00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9So then, consequently, isn't your comment?
- Otto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I found that the full screen cover flow did exactly that, spur me to get higher res images. Mainly, it made me remove the low res images that I normally keep in my MP3 files and use iTunes get album art feature to download the much higher res ones from the iTunes store.
- jflint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8They should have made coverflow behave similar to the iPhone demo so that you can turn the art over to select songs and stuff.
- nerditup, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8ya, thats just a simple organization fault, not iTunes. It is a pain though to completely organize your music collection perfectly to a point where you have OCD.... like me
- chrisgeleven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I imagine full screen coverflow will be part of Front Row 3.0...which if I had a guess, will be part of Leopard. Would make it real handy for movies (or even photo albums).
- darkstorm777, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Dont forget not implementing the Vista fix.
- KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Select those tracks, use the Get Info command, and set the "Album Artist" tag to whatever artist you want.
- Greyarea, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Folder monitoring?
- raynar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8@GreyArea
What nene7070 said.
I just want to have iTunes monitor one folder (with its subfolders). I dont want to have to drag and drop, let it copy music in its own way, or have to drag and drop and later consolidate, then have duplicate copies, and have to remember what I've added and get rid of duplicates, blah blah blah.
Right now I have to use 3rd party scripts to handle what should only be a few lines of code for Apple to fix. If they're going to try and make iTunes this all-in-wonder app, then they need to add a few REAL tweaks that arent just iCandy.
Also, how bout when they release an update, make it an UPDATE, not a totally new version, complete with Quicktime. - appleswitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Album by Artist is not new, just new as default. I think you had to cmd or option click 'artist' to get it in
- jackmaninov, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Also a nice find: Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom all have ratings tags for content.
So, a previous frontpage story said Australia TV was coming, but now I'm more excited. Canada too!! - avions, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9overview, iTunes, iTV, may be
- raynar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11@gofel
Yea, that would be just ***** great if I ran it on a Mac. But I dont.
Plus, the point is I SHOULDNT HAVE TO RUN EXTRA SCRIPTS to do this. - jarsonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5iTunes 7.1 also fixed a small bug so that AAC files encoded with other software (such as Ahead Nero's AAC encoder) will now play completely gaplessly. In previous versions, a small gap or click remained in between tracks.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5If you just want basic audio playback you can use FooBar, Winamp, XMMS, etc. iTunes is designed to offer many features.
- M05H3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I use coverflow all the time. It makes browsing a lot easier when you have a large collection. The party shuffle in coverflow mode is great too. Guests can easily cycle and choose. I think it's a great addtion once things are sorted right.
- raynar, on 10/12/2007, -9/+12So...we have iCandy....but STILL no folder monitoring.
Way to go, Apple. - Blue_Eon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I never really liked cover flow that much...especially for rap or hip hop albums. iTunes has this weird way of grouping artists separately even on the same album, so in Cover Flow, I'd get a lot of the same covers all in a row. Maybe there is a way to change that, but I haven't found out how.
- fifty50, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If you prefer the alternatives then use one and spare us your useless comment on how right you think you are.
- danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It did that before, but I think the number only appeared once you were hovering over the playlist you wanted to add them to.
- totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3doesn't it sharpen up once all the covers are loaded?
- Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Uh, Firefox STILL hasn't fixed its notorious memory leak problem.
And I hate how Apple wants iTunes and Quicktime to have little "helper" files running in the background all the time. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4One more thing I've noticed guys.
When you do multiselection and then drag'n'drop songs within iTunes, 7.1 version shows amount of songs selected.
See screenshot also.

And a resource hog? iTunes uses no RAM more than Firefox, which many would consider a well programmed and efficient piece of software. Coverflow is optional and has no effect on performance unless active. I happen to enjoy Coverflow and many guests find it interesting to see the album covers projected onto my 120" screen during parties; makes a good conversation piece, and fullscreen will make it that much sweeter. Just because YOU see no need for a feature, doesn't mean that nobody else can find enjoyment in it.
Methinks it's time to upgrade your 386. If your system doesn't meet the minimum requirements, don't use the software. Pretty simple. - KarthVader, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I would love to have this new update. Too bad my PC is teh suck and is saying, "iTunes.msi is missing".
- fifty50, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm running it on an old PowerBook G4 and even I don't see any performance issues, but I have 1 GB of RAM
- MindlessSoul, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ spoops
iTunes _does_ have folder functionality, and it's certainly not bloated compared to other music players (it could be faster, but so could everything else).
http://img74.imageshack.us/my.php?image=folderszn0.png - modusop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nope - it blurs once you move the slider - volume control too.
- cprincipe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4How about a frakking firmware update so gapless playback can be used in older iPods?
- chrisgeleven, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3At least on my Mac, coverflow seems to work better on this release. However it steal chews up RAM like no tomorrow (875 at one point!), although to be honest, I did not notice a slowdown on my system.
- rohanch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I also noticed two other things:
On Windows, iTunes injects a dll into other programs you have open, so without needing to mess around with hotkey software you can use your keyboard's play/pause/skip media keys in any program you like and it will still control iTunes. Not sure if it's actually new (?) but I didn't notice it before anyway...
Also, you can skip through lots of random tracks faster while playback is paused - It doesn't scroll to the skipped song in your library until you start playing it. - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3allanpat,
definitely seems like a Front Row/Apple TV natural fit. - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2modusup, I see it now as well-if you resize the window slightly it sharpens up..but in full screen (on my Mac at least) it stays blurry..wtf?
- metfuel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I still would like better organization of Compilation albums, and the ability to create my own Libraries in the side of iTunes, so that i can keep my midi files
organized or if i want to keep my comedy Library seprate from my music Library than I can. - avery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2To get Album by Artist, hold Ctrl and click the Album header.
- AlanYx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is precisely what the Compilation checkbox is for -- ensuring that an album with multiple artists is only displayed once in Coverflow. Give it a try. (There are also a variety of other ways of accomplishing this in iTunes 7.1, including using the new Sort By fields, but that's really what the Compilation box is there for.)
By the way, if you also want artists on a Compilation to not show up in your artists' list, there's a Preferences option which will do that. The neat thing when that option is on is that if you also have a full album by an artist who is on a compilation, the artist name will appear in the artist list, and if you click on it, it will pull in both the full albums (as you expect) but also tracks on compilations by that artist. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This guy's 7.1 seems to be different from the 7.1 I got.
- I don't get little blue bullets next to unwatched videos.
- I don't have this "Album by Artist" thing. I have "Album Artist", and "Sort Album Artist"... I'm guessing it's the latter?
There may be other differences. My iTunes' version number is "7.1 (59)". - danielwsmithee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm getting it too. Who knows what is causing it.
- byrannewell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@spoops-
I thought the same thing for years- then I looked under the File menu, and saw it. There are (obviously) no folders carried over to the iPod, but it's great use in iTunes. - SilentSpyder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It'll probably be the same games as the ipod. I doubt apple will get into the hardcore gaming scene to compete with the Xbox, PS, and Wii. Anyway, I think those old school games are really simple and minimalist, just like Apple likes.
