- ejectMedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Cmd+shift+3 = full screenshot
Cmd+Shift+4+drag selection = selection screenshot
Cmd+Shift+4+Space = window screenshot
no software is needed to do screenshots! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21anybody who says just kidding should be shot.
just kidding
...Oh crap. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Meh. I like the good old Command+shift+3 and friends.
- earthtoandy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13cmd + shift +4 is the best. add a spacebar in the end and its even cooler.
this app is pretty sweet though... crazy amount of options. and hell, the built in screenshot commands already made 'print screen', paste into paint, crop, save seem ridiculous :P - Glenn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Because most of that page is not in English.
- sedawk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yup -- I also like Command+shift+4 -- not a week goes by without me pressing that one.
- cavemonkey50, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Throw a control into those key combinations and it will save it to the clipboard instead of the desktop.
- nerogtr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The "Grab" app included with OSX (utilities folder I believe) works perfectly fine.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7"no software is needed to do screenshots!"
you use one of those old timey cameras to do it? - earthtoandy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6which you then have to paste. and what if you want to crop it? or just have a picture of a window? OS X has those built in, i can draw a box of what i want to capture, capture just a window or the whole screen and it saves it as a png (a default you can change) to the desktop. This app also will do screenshots on a timer, do multiple shots, etc.
prnt scrn sucks. one of the things i was always frustrated with when using windows. - halfgook, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5oh snap. i had no idea about those commands. (im new to os x)
THUMBS UP! thanks dude. - earthtoandy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5you still have to paste it into a image editing program. thats stupid and a horrible UI
"Holy ***** is there enough apple fanboy's on here?
Pressing 3 keys just to take a screenshot FTL."
So pressing one button, opening another app, pasting it, possibly croping it, then saving it is somehow simpler? Please describe what reality warping drug you have access too... sounds very trippy! - earthtoandy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5"its not useful to me and I just wanted to let everyone know!"
why do people announce when they dont digg something? havent you already made that statement by not digging it? - jjjjjjb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Even better, Grab is in the Services menu, you know, the one in the application menu that we never ever use...
- dle5, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"options to freeze any application"
Couldn't I just use Windows for that? - DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"how to you copy to clipboard? i always get the files on my desktop and i hate that crap"
Add CTRL to any of these combos to get the screenshot into the clipboard instead of a file.
If you want to change the combo keys to something more simple and/or learn about all sorts of other system-wide shortcuts like this, open the System Preferences, click on Keyboard & Mouse, and then on the Keyboard shortcuts tab. - klawz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4If you must use a Windows tool, use the snipping tool in Vista, it will allow a crop.
http://techtalkblogs.com/blog/archive/2006/05/27/182.aspx - mrivorey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3And when you take your screen shot, get rid of the clutter with this simple little backdrop called... Backdrop!
http://www.johnhaney.com/backdrop/ - arnar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3For Windows, I use this: http://www.techsmith.com/snagit.asp
It's not free though. - ejde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Snapz Pro lets you take real QuickTime movies in addition to a variety of still formats.
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I DO love SnagIt on Windows. It's one of the very few apps on Windows I wish we had on Mac. There is an interest survey from TechSmith regarding development of SnagIt for Mac. If you'd love to see a version of SnagIt for Mac (as I do), please provide your input.
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=493032743512 - arnar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@smallappt: SnapzPro works fine on my intel mac via rosetta.
- dragazis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3why not link to the actual application http://www.digitalwaters.net/progetti/2006/12/27/instantshot-v2.html
- DeejayKnight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No need for a program to do what comes by default :-D
- MediaShipper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How bout this site for the actual page link: http://www.digitalwaters.net/progetti/ing/2006/12/27/instantshot-v2.html
- astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Capture Me is a utility that is capable of taking screenshots of the DVD Player
http://www.chimoosoft.com/captureme.html - MattZed, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4umm what about the snipping tool in vista?
i found it in accessories a few days ago.. it was a pleasant surprise - DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1By the way you can change individual OS X screenshot combos to just ONE single f-key in the System Preferences.
And if you really feel like doing it the Windows way, you can put a sticker on the chosen key with a cryptic name like Prnt Scrn. - axiomflash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1how to you copy to clipboard? i always get the files on my desktop and i hate that crap
- ketsugi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2The program does a lot of things that the keyboard shortcuts can't do, like take timed shots, multiple shots, swap out your desktop background, etc. So don't be too quick to diss it.
- MediaShipper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3what are you using the dvd player for? use vlc player
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The great thing about this is that you don't NEED to remember the keyboard shortcuts. Having it available as a menu item is nice. Why complain about something that makes it easier to do?
- eecue, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow thanks for that spacebar addition to Cmd + Shift + 4 ... for those of you who don't know (I didn't until I tried it) hitting the spacebar allows you choose which application window you want to take a shot of instead of the whole screen. Very cool.
- Jubii, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For the Windows guys looking at this page, check out FastStone Screen Capture http://www.faststone.org/FSCaptureDetail.htm
It's free for personal use and is an excellent screen shot utility, IMHO. - Thex1138, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hey if you want an excellent set of Windows screen capture tools try
www.faststone.org
:-) - tbeseda, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2don't forget cmd+shhift+spacebar+rolling over desktop item for a shot of the icon and name only!
- arnar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sorry folks, this was a repost of the above b/c it didn't appear the first time, did three reloads before reposting. I hope digg is well..
I propose a "delete comment" - since you can always edit it to "nevermind" - arnar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dadgummit.. meant to reply again
- thealliedhacker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Snipping tool is awesome. It's similar to Office OneNote's tool.
- jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Vista out yet? Doesn't it have a few more days till the consumer release? I think for now it's still fair to compare this to print screen and paint.
- cyberneo, on 07/02/2009, -0/+0Just try Voila. Screen Capture and annotations starts and ends with this wonderful program for Mac: http://www.globaldelight.com/voila
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I use to save all your funny comments!
- b00le, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0There is an English version of the page: http://www.digitalwaters.net/progetti/ing/2006/12/27/instantshot-v2.html
Click on the little Union Jack at top right - MinorLemming, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0yeah, but that doesn't work with things like DVD player :(
- alamandrax, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Ever try alt+prnt Scrn in Windows XP? copies the current window to the clipboard. paste to anything that takes images (MS Office, Paint, Photoshop, Gimp, your mom).
cropping? child's play in paint or word or whatever. give it a spin. - StickWST, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I get alot of junk email asking me if I have problems with InstantShot.....
- smallappt, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0wish there was a good way to capture movies.
SnapzPro isn't Universal yet. Screenography is the current best bet but too xpensive. - TheReport, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"Meh. I like the good old Command+shift+3 and friends"
I was about to say, why would you need anything other than Command Shift 3. There are tons of screenshot apps for the Mac out there and I don't this as any different than the rest of them. - challpocket, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0fugggg... awesome.
now i don't have to load my slr, set up the tripod, process the film, and spend hours in the darkroom to get a screen shot. now all i need is some way to play cds and mp3s on my mac. - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1@MediaSHipper
I think we all hope you realize quick that what you asked (regarding vlc vs. a DVD player), makes almost no sense. -
