- GraceMolloy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+130All I want is the Friggin iPod part.
I'm thinking 100Gig Widescreen Video iPod.
Drool ..... - mrfreeziexp, on 10/12/2007, -6/+107Well, he'll probably get his way soon enough. The 6G iPod most likely will be modeled after the iPhone.
- schlurp, on 10/12/2007, -15/+103iPhone minus the Phone?
So basically you want an "i"
Why don't you just make one yourself by turning an exclamation mark upside down? - 4815162342, on 10/12/2007, -9/+89I just want a widescreen video ipod. Fkn lame they only release it as an iphone right now.
- mentat, on 10/12/2007, -9/+74Did you read the article? Part of what excites him the most is having OS X in his pocket. But essentially, that is what he wants: an open platform of a web tablet with first party OS X support. I think it's a dream most OS X users have.
- mikew101, on 10/12/2007, -3/+49What? 80% of what is on digg isn't news
- kiensoy, on 10/12/2007, -5/+44@evilpig: "don't freaking use it..." but he would be paying for that function besides the 2-year contract with Cingular/AT&T.
- unit101, on 10/12/2007, -8/+43Ya you won't want a regular phone until you realize you can't dial 911 on Skype.
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39¿.
*****, is that close enough ?? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32All cell phones, even if there's no service activated, are required by law to at least dial emergency services.
So you can pick up a crappy $20 phone and just keep it charged and in your pocket for emergencies. No need to spend $ per month for 911. - schroeder, on 10/12/2007, -4/+32I'm pretty sure Mr. numbers over there wants a widescreen iPod... that's just what I'm getting from his post....
- sysoprock, on 10/12/2007, -10/+34BREAKING NEWS: Whiny douchebag armchair quarterbacks Apple's product design.
- rarkai, on 10/12/2007, -17/+41Here, I made a big one for him.

iiiiiii - mentat, on 10/12/2007, -7/+27You know, all Apple needs to do is port Inkwell, iCal, Address Book, and iSync, then you've got the new Newton.. I'd buy that. I mean, my options for PDAs is either Palm OS (Sorry, Garnet OS) which isn't too impressive these days (archaic file system can barely handle PDBs, PRCs, and JPGs, can't do easy bluetooth file transfer without using an SD card, the interface is rather old, a bunch of other minor gripes; or Windows Mobile, which means using a Microsoft product (a prospect that doesn't have me jumping for joy) and an additional $40 for syncing software (ActiveSync doesn't work with OS X, but you knew that... except the part about me using PPC OS X, so Parallels isn't an option), and the problem of having to rely on developers giving me CAB files, or risk having to use a VM.
So really, I'm kind of up a creek in the PDA department. MS isn't about to go the iPod route and give support for their product on a competing platform. Third party OSes don't really have the support I'd like. Newton and Zaurii don't speak to SyncML (iSync) yet, so I'm forced to either have two separate PIM databases, or wait for a new syncing conduit, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a PDA. Other Linux-powered devices (Jornada 620 series running JLime, Psion 3 or 5 series or Revo/MX) don't even have a ton of syncing support at all, and (including the Newton now) don't support WPA Enterprise (a requirement for me, seeing as our campus just switched to WPA Enterprise, and without being able to speak to WPA Enterprise kind of defeats the purpose of me buying a WiFi-enabled PDA (me, personally. I understand other people still have a use for it).
So an iPhone with iCal and AddressBook and Inkwell (likely a stylus too) with iSync support and no phone would be WONDERFUL for me. It's hard to find better support that first party support (unless you happen to own certain Sony products). - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21Full story at 11
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17What he's really asking for is a touchscreen widescreen iPod with Wifi, I believe that is coming, and it can't come too zune.
- Rodzirra, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16No offense, strabes, but that Zen Vision W looks like the dashboard of a Ford Mustang.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+15with web. that would be good
- daborg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Wow, those girls have big... phones.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9*burp*
It's called a PDA, and they've existed for, oh I dunno, 10 years now. - Endies, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I'd like a hamburger minus the burger.
- joeTaco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7¡I think this is what he's looking for!
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I want the iPhone minus Cingular.
- elegidito, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Exactly why is this news?
- witte, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Great, thanks for sharing.
Is it necessary for EVERY story with an 'IPHONE' tag to be promoted to the homepage? How lame will these iphone stories get? - loganhuddleston, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8i agree, the 2 year contract sucks. i dont suppose there will be any unlocked on ebay?
- RockTheWall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Read up on Skype's features.
- TheWorm, on 10/12/2007, -10/+14Totally aggree. Having the phone part almost cheapens all the other stuff I really like. I know that what I want the iPhone for is the great interface, the internet, the wide screen videos, and the iPod. Having a phone takes away from the feel of having the ultimate portable media device.
- Loonacy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You got it. Cingular is now AT&T.
- AimlessAbyss, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I agree with him. I'm all for a widescreen iPod with internet than runs OS X, I just don't think I would use the phone feature that much. Besides, I already have a cell phone and I don't want to be forced into a deal with Cingular when I'm happy with the service I already get.
- pmace, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5digg me down
- iQuinn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I've got highspeed municipal wifi in Toronto, so a decent VOIP client could easily replace the cell phone. Better still, sell it without a contract (or a very short one) and some reasonably expensive per bit rate for cellular connectivity, in case I happen to be in a dead zone in the muni wifi I can spend the cash and connect through the cellular network.
- WasabiBomb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Add a GPS, and I'll be perfectly happy. Well, until the Next Big Thing comes out.
Still, I want a GPS. It bugs me that it's disabled in just about every phone which could, theoretically, at least give you the zip code of your location. - PabloMac, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Lame analogy. An engineless car wouldn't be drivable, and thus wouldn't need a license, registration, insurance, etc.
"No one will dig a story about something *this* pointless."
Evidently someone did. - Kittyflipping, on 10/12/2007, -10/+13I want a brand new car from the dealership, without the engine. I want to be able to sit in it, listen to the stereo, light my smokes with it's lighter, but I don't want to pay license and registration fees!! I don't want to show proof of insurance. I don't want to have a drivers license!
Cry with me please.
Oh wait, this isn't about an iPhone... No one will dig a story about something *this* pointless. - redwallhp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Someone should email the URL for this to Steve Jobs.
- Cougarcat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I want the iPhone minus the iPod. An iPhone mini, if you will. I don't care for the internet or iPod features. I don't care for watching movies on a small screen. I've already got a 20 gig iPod. Just give me a Phone with a slick touchscreen user interface, visual voicemail, and a minimal amount of space and I'll be happy.
- JasonsRath, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i = ham
- kolop1, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Yeah but I have a cell phone for that.
- sxtxixtxcxh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2the first of which, btw, built by apple.
- Mox50, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Kinda like this article:

- TravisG5, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4...Also, a cat stuck in a tree. Will he get down?
- RockTheWall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Pay As You Go is the Geo of cell phone service; no one wants to release a high-end product on a low-class program.
- phytonix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2me too.
all VOIP. - TheIconoclast31, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Nice post, but your parentheses confused the hell out of me.
- BlackBloke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They already did make a 5th Generation iPod. People are awaiting the 6th generation iPods.
- noliberalbull, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Dugg for the sentiment... not for the actual link
- BWhaler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I hope the 6G is this vision, with a 120 gig drive.
- BTime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3You can use 911 with Vonage.
