I think that could have done with a little punctuation. Next time, try:
I dont believe it [-] I went to an apple store[,] and the[y] had the new imac's[,] and the ["]About this Mac["] called the processor Intel... and some number[.] it was not calling it a Pentium M[;] that is for sure, becasue it is an entirely different architecture.
I've gotta say - I never normally listen to people who say that IM is affecting our ability to communicate in writing, but that comment really made me think. - ronmexico, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Ok... I thought this article was about how to upgrate. Marked as inaccurate.
- 5thfreedom, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14Um, ok?
- msprout, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12If you're doing a hardware installation tutorial, it's mandated by federal law that 90% of the 'close up, detail pictures' have to be completely out of focus.
For some reason, the people that do these things can rebuild a car from spare vegetables, but still can't figure out where the macro function is on their camera.
(oops. meant to reply to the one above this) - RandomGuySteve, on 10/12/2007, -7/+17You're obviously a windows user. Not just because you got a 404, but because you called it a 404. Its an i404 Pro.
- alx1507, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10You're obviously a windows user. Not just because you want windows on it, but because you called it a mini mac. Its a Mac Mini.

- qwin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Thats really useful to know, good find.
- hotsoda, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Why did he take pictures of the monitor instead of using Prt Scrn?
- HeavyMetaler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Your not even quoting the right processor prices. Those chips won't even fit in the socket.
Socket 479 = Mobile Socket(Merom Core2duo/Yonah/Sonoma/Dothan)
Socket 775 = Desktop Socket(Conroe Core2duo/Pentium D/etc.) - cdman98, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Would have been better off adding 512MB more ram! All things considered OSX runs best on at least1GB, plus it has integrated Intel video which shares ram. More ram Dingus Squatford Jr, then worry about the CPU upgrade.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7A big mac is better than a mini mac.
- hbuswell, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Ranging from GBP £121.60 (USD $228) for the Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 Socket 775 1.86GHz up to GBP £651.99 (USD $1,224) for the Intel Core 2 Extreme X6800 Socket 775 2.93GHz although I'm sure you can find more competetive figures else where.
Sorry about the UK price conversion... - BillyEveryteen, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Can I 'upgrate' it enough so it looks like the Mac Pro?
- tange1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why are most of the pictures out of focus?
- foolonthehill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Remember that we get pretty much raped on prices in the UK. What costs £x here probably won't cost much more than $x in the US.
- OandA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why does he have sand paper?
- alefox, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6yes, finally, how much is the processer?
- matman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thanks. Photos are a little blurry but hey.
- computermatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have a mini, and the core duo processors are very expensive, I'm very surprised to see that the Core 2 Duo is less then the core duo.
- kevnaca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Sadly, no. There is no room for a video card and i don't think you can upgrade integrated graphics.
- blaket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm curious what his performance gains were. I saw the after install performance tests but didn't notice one from before the chip swap. Wonder if it was worth the risk and expense overall.
- kevnaca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's pretty misleading when the Mac OS doesn't recognize the correct chip name. Wonder if there is a fix to that. Plus he should put up benchmarks from before and after.
- WalterDirt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6God I wish the MacBook Pro was upgradeable in the same way.
- P5ycHo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3How about putting a quad core intel in there .....
- blaket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2My guess, which is all it is, is that he wanted to do this to a stock mini, nothing upgraded in it. That'd be the best overall 'test' of doing something like this, then you'd upgrade the system with RAM and all. At least that's how I'd do it.
- nixfu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2
I have found that cheap and flimsy steak knives work great...they are thinner than putty knives and no need for sanding etc. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He could've pressed Apple+Shift+4 to take screenshots....
- rdoger6424, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2it's not the size of your mac, it's how you use it :D
- boshaus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2is the stock cooling sufficient for a core 2 duo?
- NetSliderX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So, is it possible to upgrade an iMac Core Duo ...?!
- etandrib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The mini doesn't need a Core 2 Duo... it needs another slot or two for RAM! If it had any room left I'd pack it full of RAM, and maybe a larger HD...
- Swift2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In the states, the prices start about $460. Definitely a doable upgrade. 64-bit mini!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2No, it isn't even running slowly (for me at least).
- bbrosemer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Your all ignonrant asses, it was not a Core 2 duo label, and Pentium M is not a Core Chip AT ALL!
- MadEnvoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1As opposed to ingrate?
- porkstacker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My asiago could use a good upgrating, as could my manchego.
- AgentBarcode, on 01/11/2009, -0/+1Hmm, upgrates.
- Justin6512, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1can you do this to an iMac with an intel core duo?
- stmiller, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2A lot.
- shit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Totally.
Good thing he took pictures of the monitor instead of making screenshots, too. - JerodSlay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1people need to learn how to use the macro feature on their digital cameras.
- yaekle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank you!
- aaryn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why would you want to upgrade the video? It's not meant for gaming, if you want that then you wouldn't buy a Mac mini...
- ratzfatz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My Xbench shows 82.24 with a 2GB RAM in my "old" Intel mini. The tested system had only 512MB, using Xbench 1.2. I wonder about the results using the latest Xbench software along with proper memory. I'll ask my dealer to upgrade my mini. Warranty never has been an issue for me. I've never had a broken Mac since the well known rectifier block problem in the Plus way back in 1986. And i literally had dozends of Macs since then in the company. Even my "to the top of the roof" overclocked G4 runs well since a couple of years now. Thanks for this great link!

Most likely because the EFI on the iMac is up to date and programmed with the new CPUID of the Core 2 Duos.... whereas the Mac Mini isn't. SO it'll run the chip, it just doesn't know what it is. Run into this all the time, some motherboards called Pentium Ds "Pentium 5" - estacado, on 10/12/2007, -7/+8Nobody has made fun at the "upgrate" typo yet?

- Goatman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Probably using a Apple keyboard so there is no prt screen key to use in Windows.
