I say no - nickgib, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13heya afred -
I updated the tutorial to mention the Aero stuff at the beginning - thanks!! - idiggeverything, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Who cares?
- afred, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The article doesn't state it until the end, but you can't run Aero in Parallels, you'll need to dual boot for that. Good guide though.
- klawz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5you can run a demo of any of them in a virtual machine, for up to 90 days, for free, and 100% legit. Just don't enter in a serial number when installing.

- MrMacMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Parallels has stated that they are working on Aero and the feature will be upcoming with new releases.
- moracity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Evenif it were a violaiton of the EULA, that doesn't make it illegal. Not adhering to a license agreement is not breaking the law. That said, The Vista EULA states that you cannot run Home on both a qulaified device AND a virtual machine. This is no different that running multiple copies. Ultimate specially states that you can run two instances of Vista, one physical and one virtual.
- TechPedia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What many of you who are asking 'why' or making dumb comments don't realize is that many, MANY people use a Mac as their primary computers (by choice) but have to work with Windows on a regular basis. I, for instance, have to manage a Windows network. By being able to run Windows apps in Parallels, I can manage everything I need as well as test new things without having to worry about carrying around another laptop or constantly remoting into other machines.
If I can have a few VMs sitting on my Macbook and fire them up for specific purposes, I've saved thousands of dollars and have made my life and job easier. - smhill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just read through this, what exactly is the point?
It is a series of screen shots of the setup wizard, most of the repeating what exactly on the screen, I didn't see any useful information that isn't provided by the wizard. In fact it actually could over complicate the process, the express setup works like a charm and you can skip several of those steps. (Do you really need to verify the date/time).
Here is a much simpler walk through...
1) Launch Parallels
2) Read instructions on screen...
3) there is no step three. - steven401, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Isn't illegal to run Home Basic or Premium in a virtual machine - pretty sure you can only legally run Business or Ultimate.
- noreturn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I second macbwizard. What's the point when XP will get the job done?
- macbwizard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"legacy apps"
then why use Vista? why not XP? - unabonger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And when can I get Parallels to recognize my existing Vista partition?
- N1XUK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1anyone know if you can use parrallels and bootcamp on the same xp/vista partition?
- alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, I installed Vista on a computer yesterday and today it says 29 days left.
So I can only infer that the time limit is 30 days. After that all you can do is sign in and use Internet Explorer. - tdowling, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Also The final version of boot camp is rumoured to be a part of leopard."
Not a rumor - it's been confirmed for quite a while now. See the 'Now Built In' heading at http://www.apple.com/macosx/leopard/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@turgor
If Aero is not running you can't use flip3d, which is more than a visual effect. When you alt+tab, the previews will also disappear. - astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3What are you talking about? If there's one thing Windows is totally awesome at it's running those old legacy Windows applications you have hanging around. No different than running Classic Mac OS applications.
- Raian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The drivers should work-- you will just have to extract them manually from the boot camp driver installer as far as I know.
Also The final version of boot camp is rumoured to be a part of leopard. - Sethwm2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone know when boot camp drivers are going to support Windows Vista. I heard something about there being a final release of boot camp that will be sold. I am waiting patiently for it. Or is someone can point me the correct direction where I can get all the drivers for Vista for the Mac book Pro. Thanks.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just went through the work of getting rid of my XP Parallels image and reinstalling Windows with Boot Camp so I can share it with Parallels. It's working well so far.
- nwoolls, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@alwaysmc2: You can install a 30 day trial, then you get the option to extend it twice.
@moracity: Paul Thurrot has verified, the license does not simply keep you from running home on both the machine and a VM, it really does mean you cannot run home under a VM at all. Thats only the retail version though. Those with MSDN subscriptions are licensed to install home under a VM for development purposes. - avatarpalin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Agreed I would love some benchmarks though. I have a white MacBook and would like to know if it's worth the while performance wise. I tried RC2 and it ran like a dog
- MrMacMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Parallels can open a boot camp partition... I do not believe boot camp can open a Parallels partition however.
Parallels has a FAQ or a forum thread about it if I remember correctly. - Sethwm2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I am not going to want to use Windows XP forever on this Mac Book Pro. Some new games that are coming out are going to require it. I think.. But I would just like to put Windows Vista on here.
- roseysdaddy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1alright, at the expense of showing my complete ignorance on a different subject, is it possible to do a fresh install OS X on the x86 pc now?
- kissfatdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can download Vista directly from Microsoft, Smart Guy! Why don't you learn something before you post on the subject.
- alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+190 days? More like 35. (Or am I missing something)
I'll verify. - AudioDan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3But what about the Pirate Bay version?
- mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1How ironic that this is supposed to be a simple guide for those that aren't that tech savvy but yet it says to use a Vista ISO for the install...or is that the next guide you're working on? How to pirate Vista?
- EtherGnat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's isn't illegal or even against the EULA to run Vista Home Basic or Premium in a virtual machine. A lot of places reported the issue incorrectly. What you CAN'T do is install Basic or Premium onto a machine *AND* run it in a virtual machine. Essentially the software is licensed for ONE machine, be it physical or virtual.
The license for the Business and Ultimate editions allow install onto both your machine and a virtual machine simultaneously.
Edit: Now I find articles that say it is in fact against the EULA, so I'm not sure what to believe. - sysoprock, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4How to smear dog ***** on your Dad's Ferrari - a complete walkthrough
- polymorphist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1"How to install vista on OSX using Parallels?"
Step 1: Install parallels
Step 2: Create VM in Parallels
Step 3: Install Vista...
All done...
Why would someone bother to write an extensive guide to something that is so extraordinarily easy to do? - ahmerhussain, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Sorry to ask, but why?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1A bunch of ***** transparent windows doesn't make installation of Vista worth it. Vista is a bug-riddled fiasco already. Stick with XP. Switch it to the "classic" interface.
- testdrivemedia, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Funny that most mac fan boys wank on about how '1337' OS x is and how Vista is rubbish in comparison, yet they'd want to run Vista on their mac's? how odd.
Just apple hoping to increase market share, by hoping people will buy a mac for both, rather than a PC just for vista.
Personally, i wish they would allow OS X to be run in the same way on a vista machine.
