- insomniac8400, on 02/13/2008, -3/+55That video should be called "How to unlock your iPhone for Any SIM in 101 Annoying Steps"
- nunofgs, on 02/13/2008, -2/+27That is an old way to do it. Here are better instructions.
1. Download Ziphone (zibree.blogspot.com)
2. Restore your iphone to the very latest version (1.1.3) through iTunes.
3. Put your iphone into recovery mode: Turn it off. Disconnect the cable. Press+hold the home button. Connect the cable. The iphone will display an image of itunes+cable.
4. This process depends on your bootloader
4.1. Bootloader 3.9 (older phones... i.e. 1.0.2 or 1.1.1 OTB):
4.1.1. run ./ziphone -j -a
4.1.2. run anysim 1.3 from installer.app
4.2 Bootloader 4.6 (newer phones... i.e. OTB 1.1.2 or higher)
4.2.1. run ./ziphone -j -a -u
You are done. - mitch37, on 02/13/2008, -3/+18iDontKnow
- SaTaNKiLLeR, on 02/13/2008, -3/+17I don't think Ziphone is terrible, I think Vista is!!!!!!!! :)
- vsLAN, on 02/13/2008, -1/+15It seems pretty straight forward... But is this the easiest way? I thought I seen something on the front page a few days ago about a one program that did all this for you.
ZiPhone, I believe... - Kalakov, on 02/13/2008, -2/+15Black nails... wifi router called "Graveyard" hmm....
- blazes816, on 02/13/2008, -11/+24Why would you want to use a program called "iBricker"?
- nunofgs, on 02/13/2008, -0/+10That's because you didn't read the instructions properly. It crashes if you are in DFU mode. It clearly tells you to be in RECOVERY mode.
To go to recovery mode: Turn off your iphone. Unplug the cable from the iphone. Press and hold the home button, then plug the cable into the dock connector in the iPhone. The phone will boot up and display an image of itunes+cable. NOW you can run ziphone. - iamweasel1022, on 02/13/2008, -2/+11***** that ill wait for the 128 gig version in 2011
- frosted, on 02/13/2008, -3/+10Here's how it works:
Apple creates a Cell phone that has an unexpectedly high response because it has a full OSX image. Someone at Apple feels that it is "safe" because OSX is "unhackable".
Someone makes a program that cracks in and frees up the iphone to add programs and unlock the phone.
Apple gets pissed, and makes a patch.
Someone quickly finds out that the patch doesn't stop them from jailbreaking it, and posts the new jailbreak on a website.
Apple gets pissed, and makes another patch.
Again, jailbroken, will apple ever give up?
Apple gets pissed, creates another patch that breaks all apps and prevents you from jailbreaking.
Someone gets the concept of downgrading in their head and successfully cracks into the new software.
Apple gets pissed (is this a pattern?) and promises SDK and puts out a new update that is sure to be unhackable!
OH NO! Someone figured out how to hack it within a few days! Poor Apple!
Apple gets pissed, promises flash support next, when will they learn, provide software with quality and the FEATURES we are looking for, and we will stop hacking, cracking and messing with the code (maybe). - Chairboy, on 02/13/2008, -0/+7RevToTheRedline is correct, but I'll translate in case you're not familiar with the terminology. AT&T uses a technology that's different from what Verizon uses. Even when you see things like the Motorola RAZR being used on both carriers, they have different guts for some different networks. There are exceptions, of course. For example, AT&T and T-Mobile are both GSM networks (GSM, like CDMA, is a set of frequencies and protocols used for cell calls and more) so an AT&T phone that's fully 'unlocked' can be used on the T-Mobile network.
I'm going to upmod the OP by one, being downmodded for asking a legit question is petty. It's at -1 right now and at least deserves to be positive. We're supposed to be a community, right? - br0ken1128, on 02/13/2008, -0/+7Not true.. I will continue hacking my phone until I'm allowed to use someone other than AT&T .. I just can't wait until the contract with AT&T is done with so I can finally stop having to do these activations with trickery
- ScottyDontKnow, on 02/13/2008, -1/+7Zibree just released ZiPhone 1.02
http://zibree.blogspot.com/2008/02/ziphone-12-is-o ...
also good tutorials on www.iclarified.com - gamedtx, on 02/13/2008, -0/+6This sounds good, guess I guess I'll finally go down to the states and get an iPhone.
Shame I only have a choice between Rogers or Rogers (Fido). ***** Canadian Monopolies. - TypeEE, on 02/13/2008, -0/+6Or the story happened this way
Apple created a cellphone that they feel it's hackable
Someone hacked it.
Apple didn't care
AT&T bitched
Apple patched
.
.
.
Someone hacked the iPHone again, this time that we have too much inventory
AT&T will bitch
Apple will wait until they liquidate some of their overstocked inventory before they patch it again. - FeliciaHayes, on 02/13/2008, -0/+6LOL!
Can't set goths loose with the iPhone, huh? - luchid, on 02/13/2008, -2/+7I miss the time when digg was filled with technologically savvy people. Now it's just full of computer illiterates.
- Blademan88, on 02/13/2008, -5/+9Is it possible to use iPhone under Verizon with Any Sim? Or does it not work since I think Verizon has different type of network?
- web2pointYo, on 02/13/2008, -1/+5that was at least good for a small late morning chuckle.
click install, then go, then yes
now slide, dial 0, then send, then unsend, then dial 1 800 flowers, then hold,
then go to //hack-n-crack-shack.com, then install something, then make a pp&j samich, click cruntchy, dial milk, then ok
now click shift+update, then install, then install again, then install some more times, maybe once again for good measure...
Enjoy! - inactive, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3Go to Installer and install AnySim 1.3
If you can't find it, make sure you install the community sources. - inactive, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3ZZZZZZZZZZZZ zzzzzzz ZZZZZ, (cue the crickets).....
- DarkDx, on 02/13/2008, -9/+12In soviet Russia iPhone unlocks you.
- actionscripted, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3My computer froze, so I bought a new monitor.
- nunofgs, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3Lots of people are having this problem. You need to put your phone into recovery mode. You are putting it into DFU mode.
To go to recovery mode: Turn off your iphone. Unplug the cable from the iphone. Press and hold the home button, then plug the cable into the dock connector in the iPhone. The phone will boot up and display an image of itunes+cable. NOW you can run ziphone - 4ZERO1, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3Great.// now where is the damn automation.
- ttntyler, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3Yes, that means you can't use it.. The iPhone is a GSM phone.
- applebyte, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3the video is basically following the steps outlined here (with the exception of using iclarified at the end to unlock the sim instead of the terminal method)
http://www.hackthatphone.com/
the newer, simpler way of unlocking is with ziphone v2.0. with ziphone you don't have to downgrade first to jailbreak, activate, and unlock.
http://zibree.blogspot.com/ - heystoopid, on 02/14/2008, -0/+3yawn! ;(
- AlienMushroom, on 02/21/2008, -0/+3I guess they never heard of ZiPhone. Jailbreak, activate and unlock 1.1.2/1.1.3 OTB in just a click and less than 10 minutes. What, you got a 3.9BL? Fine, JB and Activate with ZiPhone, and then use anySIM 1.3 to get rid of ATT. Will anyone be stupid enough to need a video tutorial again?
- TwistedSilver, on 02/13/2008, -2/+5ZiPhone is still buggy and has bricked iPhones. I recommend using this tutorial instead. Although it is longer it is much more safer.
- allisonmd, on 02/13/2008, -1/+4Why must everything have to be about Vista? I am sick about seeing a video or article on an unrelated topic and someone saying "VISTA SUCKS", etc. Get a life and grow up.
- actionscripted, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2If you purchase any gadget you should have full rights to do with it whatever the hell you want. YOU BOUGHT IT.
A better suggestion for most companies is to keep the hardware OPEN. Don't try to lock-out the tech savvy bastard that wants to play around with the technology that he spend hundreds on. - fahrvergnuugen, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2I'm finding out that ZiPhone can not unlock your phone if you have the older Bootloader (if your phone came with version 1.0.x on it). Upgrading your phone to 1.1.3 with iTunes apparently does not upgrade the Bootloader. I'm still researching and learning how all this works, but that's what I've come up with so far. My phone is at 1.1.3, jailbroken & "activated" (using ZiPhone) however I don't have any service.
It's looking like my only option is to follow the methods outlined in this video (or maybe the method outlined here: http://www.intomobile.com/2008/02/07/unlock-your-i ... ) - lucask, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2Capitalism.
Now if only he were paying the people who created the apps royalties then I would agree with him, however he's stealing their potential profits. - arbouler, on 02/13/2008, -3/+5interesting. i'm moving out of the country soon and would like to get to use this thing properly in asia
- xero9, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2ZiPhone will only Unlock/Jailbreak/Activate 1.1.2 and 1.1.3 OTB phones. If you have an older one, it can ONLY Jailbreak/Activate which isn't a problem. Once you run ZiPhone with those 2 options, add http://i.unlock.no/ so your sources in Installer, and under Unlocking Tools install/run AnySIM 1.3. Once you do this, it should be fine
- garble7, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2Steps 4.2 and 4.2.1 can also now work with bootloader 3.9 phones with ziphone 2.0
- cloudyprison, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2Hi, welcome to the internet.
- garble7, on 02/14/2008, -0/+2don't use this, ziphone is much much simpler and works on any phone out of the box. ziphone 2.0 works on all iphones. ziphone -u -j -a -v. 2 minutes and 30 seconds later talking on Rogers.
- Blademan88, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2Meaning I can't use it? I'm asking because I'm not sure if that means it's impossible. I'm not asking just for the hell of it.
- highPhone, on 02/13/2008, -1/+3sure buddy, you can do your taxes by yourself too, buy then your dumb ass gets audited and you WISH you went to an accountant and got your taxes done for you for 20 bucks.
If you have no understanding of economics and capitalism, don't flame people for accepting money in exchange for a service. - Bviper, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2Ziphone worked first try for me on Vista 64bit, use the gui version, and disable auto lock.
- jmnx12, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2it is pretty crappy it does work in xp though, thats how i did mine, just a real pain in the ass to get going
- NasKa, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2You just need to jailbreak it. You don't have to unlock. You can jailbreak any version. After that you are good to go with ATT without contract. Make sure to do your research before you open the box.
- cave, on 02/19/2008, -0/+1WTF... Get a life?
- luchid, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1That method is so complicated and uselessly contrived. 99% of that guide is now irrelevant thanks to the Ziphone utility.
Bigswinger: Since you'd be getting an iPhone with firmware version 1.1.3 out of th ebox the only thing you'd need is to hook it up to your computer and run Ziphone with the modifiers -a -j. That way you'll have a jailbroken and activated phone ready to be used with any AT&T SIM. You'll also get Installer.app automatically installed.
If you ever wish to unlcok it for use with any other provider in the world you can re run Ziphone but with the -u command only. - bigwillystyle, on 02/18/2008, -0/+1i wish this was around when i bought mine. wouldve saved me the $275 it cost me to get out of t-mobile. damn the life of the early adopter sucks
- garble7, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Don't be afraid it can always be fixed. just use ziphone 2.0 because it's so dead simple. version 2 will do everything (ulock, jailbreak, activate) for any version iphone
- garble7, on 02/14/2008, -0/+1Try ziphone, much simpler and you can go all the way to 1.1.3 restore and push a button and 2 minutes and 30 seconds everything is done.
ziphone 2.0 works on ANY iphone in existance - fahrvergnuugen, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1I have community sources installed, don't see AnySim 1.3 - only 1.2...
