Good point but if Apple had allowed people to download to other devices besides iPods, this may not have been an issue. - prowling-tiger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Cool Worked for me, got me to bring out my PSP out of the closet.
- fatcat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Would you be able to stream music to other computers from itunes with this?
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Try Amapche for Linux/OSX. I set it up for my PSP. Works great.
- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3yes it will not allow playing any DRM songs as the article states, but any other AAC or MP3 files should do just fine.
-http://www.skattertech.com - muleking, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I think sony is going to have the PSP set for remote wireless access to home media when PS3 comes out. Have PS3 as a homebase serving media to a PSP when your out.
- zigziggityzoo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5RTFA. No video support yet.
Cool idea. I dunno about streaming to other locations outside your network....That could have RIAA implications. - Jamezes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I have no problem with that. I can listen to my mp3s at 320kbps ^^
- IcanFLY, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Wouldn't the RIAA already be pissed about even this. I didn't look at article and the program they give you in full detail, but it seems it either only works on non-drm'ed files, or it somehow circuvents the drm since it is a broadcast to an unsecure device (I don't think the PSP is fair-play compatible..).
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Well, Apple probably wont release the code built into iTunes and all iPods that allows it to play AAC files with Apple copyright. If they did, France wouldnt be an issue, and people will buy other PMPs (Portable Music Players) players and buy songs off iTunes. with Apple holding 90% of all PMP (Portable Music Plater) sales, they are NOT going to let go of that code. Technically, the iPod is not a MP3 player, it uses AAC.
And thats why you NEVER buy stuff off iTunes. low quality, and DRM. DRM SUCKS - xxdesmus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2very cool little web server ...i won't ever use it for my PSP, but it's still a nice way to just share music with friends ...just gotta figure out how to set it up with authentication so i can add user/passwords then this will be great.
Anyone wanna wrap a pretty GUI around this? - WermerSkoch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm not sure of the answer to your question, but that feature is already built-into iTunes. Go to Edit-->Preferences-->Sharing (for Windows iTunes.. Not sure about the menu names for the Mac version). Hope this helps.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Very cool, using it now. But I have a slight problem. Not all of my music (784 songs) are coming up. They are all in MP3 format, so its not a format issue. Is there just a limit to how many files the RSS reader will catologue?
- Fafhrd68, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I hope the videos can be streamed to the PSP....
- se1zure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Dmorack, thanks a ton. Dot tunes works (the demo does at least) and I'm considering the full version :)
It has a clean interface, and is VERY nice to organize and in fact is a program. I sugget this to anyone who want an easy streaming tool. - sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1hey dmorack, good find. i was indeed wrong :( the last time i had checked dottunes it only had that one feature. they seem to have added thousands of features by combining multiple open souce applications, which infact might be better for those that do not want to go through the hassle of setting up these stuff. only issue i have with this is that it costs money. but either way it still seems to be a good product. thanks for correcting me, my bad
- prowling-tiger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Did you open up port 8080 on both your software and hardware firewall, also check if your using the right IP address.
- woohooo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I wrote a set of php scripts to do something similar. http://www.tunerds.com/librarytopodcast/
Might be useful for anyone using OS X. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Got any games you're willing to part with?
- apoc06, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the locationfree service already does this to a certain extent. if you update your psp to 2.6+ firmware, you will have access to that ability, provided you have a locationfree basestation.
sony has been kinda vague, but they mentioned that the ps3 may have that functionality built in. - KuroiAme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I have this setup on my 2.6 psp, and it doesnt play the itunes drm'ed music. Any other mp3's are fine, but not itunes bought music. At least this is the case for me.
- dmorack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Try Dot-Tunes. Works fine for me and the developer is contantly adding features. Worth the money. http://www.dottunes.net/
- PSPon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Tried it out, and it works for me! Very Cool!
- vypergts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want to use this to access my playlists at work from my home computer. Does vlc play rss channels?
- aznrepublic81, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1awesome tutorial!
- Thmstec, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1anyone else find your PSP buffering alot when listening to music encoded above 160kbps? I can't even play my music encoded at 320kbps.... :(
- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1just for your information, dot tunes is to download music to you machine via web browser, however the purpose of this is to stream it so you dont need to waste space on your memory card nor needing to wait for the file do be downloaded.
-http://www.skattertech.com - Radscott, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow. No PSP bashing yet? All of the DS fanboys/PSP haters must be in an Easter candy induced coma, or something. Thank you, Easter Bunny! Bok bok!
- RCola, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Same problem if you find a solution please post.
- prowling-tiger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2no not really ^_^
- RooDoG, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Awesome! Works for me too...
+ DIGG - drummerjed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been using this for a couple of months, It was called Itunes-Rss. Works fine for me at home. I also use Itunes Remote. I'll post a digg link later.
- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the psp can only handle displaying the first 100 items of any feed, therefore you must create as many playlists as possible to access more content.
- davidv, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They haven't been vague they said it WILL act (the ps3) as a location free player and let you stream things off the 60 gb hdd to the psp.
- prowling-tiger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Just found out while I was playing with this, It wont let you play any of your purchased or protected music from iTunes.
- tacom8, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't believe you frank... i thought we where friends... then you just turn out to be a spambot
Consider yourself off my friends list man... :( - sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yes you can copy the url of the RSS feed into another itunes application. by doing so you will be able do save any song in the RSS feed to you machine just as you would do so with a regular podcast.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1apoc06. You only need 2.50+ for Location Free. You dont need 2.60. 2.60 is for the RSS and WMA capabilities
- isewise, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Do you have that Pimpstreamer? Does it work on 2.6 firmware? I cant see the developers website (geocites) here at school. : ( I ll have to wait till I get home but thanks for this info about streaming to a psp. There was no way i was buying a location free box for $300!
- r00kie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5I'll digg for the hot CSS on that page.
- medicast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is cool but again, cant sacrifice homebrew....damn...damn...damn...just want to stream my itunes to the jacks... how hard can this be...
- WermerSkoch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Does anyone know if this will work for music bought from the iTunes music store? I know there's something like this for pocketPC called WifiTunes, but as of right now it doesn't support any M4P or M4A files.
- shacklebolt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ive done everything i could think of to solve this problem, but does anybody know what the DNS Error (80410414) means and how to fix it?
- tedlick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0short answer: no.
longer answer: it only streams MP3 and AAC files without DRM embedded, and all files bought from the iTunes music store have the DRM embedded in them.
smartass answer: RTFA. - azithromycin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Im having problems on using this iTune RSS. Its similar to what shacklebolt has. What do you mean by open up port 8080?
- dmorack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just for your information, Dot-Tunes streams (yes, streams and I know it also downloads) music just fine from my Mac to my PSP. It also allows for streaming to any computer via RSS with the option to download the file as well. Please read and gather more information before posting again. Also, the program you suggested appears to be geared toward Windows not Mac OS X. I believe that the poster asked for Mac OS X support.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1to Lumiras
If the PSP's browser had streaming, I would use my.orb.com
This delivers teh music through RSS. The PSP will probably NEVER have a streaming browser, since Sony doesnt want people to use Slingboxes, ORB, or other software/hardware to view videos through WiFi. They want people to use Location Free, which is $350. More profit for Sony. Also, most people with 512kbps or more, the quality will be downgraded, but the PSP screen wont need more. People, like me, with a 15mbit line, wont suffer quality loss. Also, hotspots, usually give 1mbit lines -
