well *****, its a tutorial, i wouldn't be reading a tutorial if i knew what i was doing - stealthspc, on 03/20/2009, -0/+12My friend, you are a wise man.
- AlexHarazim, on 03/20/2009, -1/+13I hope bakingoven likes shemales =D
- LaserCobra, on 03/20/2009, -0/+11All I had to do was jailbreak and install PDANet (free). Windows users get USB tethering while Mac are stuck with WiFi Ad-hock. Bandwidth test in Tampa, FL showed over 3Mb down and 1.5Mb up (speedtest.net). Official tethering in 3.0 means nothing to me because costs will be through the roof and more people will be doing it and eating up my bandwidth. =)
Oh and AT&T really has no way to tell you are tethering because the phone has a full feature browser. Just because the screen is small doesn't mean it receives less data compared to a computer. Only surfing habits will get you busted. Torrenting, large file downloads, much higher then average BW usage. - mikeazorin, on 03/20/2009, -0/+11Are they assuming we've paid the $99 for devel program? From what I've heard getting 3.0 from torrents doesn't work.
- inactive, on 03/19/2009, -0/+11Works with AT&T
- huff51, on 03/20/2009, -1/+11i wont send you any money but you can bet your mailbox will be full of spam
- Viniator3, on 03/20/2009, -5/+151. Jailbreak.
2. Mod permissions via SSH.
3. Find cracked version of Netshare.
4. Tether for free.
5. ???
6. Profit. - frascellyboy273, on 03/20/2009, -2/+7This would be useful if we could get the 3.0 software without paying for the developer beta...
torrent anyone? - elTito, on 03/20/2009, -0/+5PDA Net on Cydia.
But you have to jailbreak to get it. - MightyUpsetter, on 03/20/2009, -1/+5*****
- lowtolerance, on 03/20/2009, -0/+3thank you for saying what i think every time i read an iphone/ipod article.
- DealCracker, on 03/20/2009, -1/+4Once installed, the OS 3.0 beta can't be downgraded back to 2.21. It is beta software and there are going to be plenty of issues. Even bricking the phone during the upgrade is possible. It's not worth becoming a developer to put this unstable OS on your phone. Wait a few months for the real thing.
My guess is that heavy bandwidth use through tethering is a great way to get yourself noticed by AT&T. - sevenalive, on 03/21/2009, -0/+2@Robot
Yes it happens, yes we know about it, you may try to bitch and say "I didn't know, i didn't do that, it wasn't me.", but we know what you did, you know what you did, and now when you have a $500 data overage charge, don't come crying to us. - pandapoo, on 03/19/2009, -0/+2How about O2? Anyone got the file for that one? :)
- aaronmcdonald, on 03/21/2009, -0/+2I'm ok actually, I think I was one of the lucky ones to get Netshare about 2-3 hours before it was taken from the Appstore lol
- lowtolerance, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2pdanet(at least the newest version through cydia) is only a free trial. after that, i think it's $30, which is still a pretty good deal.
- firesights, on 03/20/2009, -0/+2Good point.
Perhaps when people stop saying, "Zomg ur iPhone can't copy-paste/tether to your PC/record video so it's inferior to phone x", these kind of comments will stop.
I'm no Apple lover, and your comment is not what I'm directing this at, but it's amazing the kind of hate the iPhone generates, when really it is a top of the line mobile device. Unlike Apple computers, which cost more for less features, the iPhone is a level above the other phones available (in the States, at least). - Resiroth, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1Actually it does work. I haven't bothered myself since MMS doesn't work ( ATT limitation ) and the firmware is still obviously a work in progress. Apparently though you can update ( not restore ) to 3.0 if your internet is off. All files will still sync.
- uahgekido, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1A2DP is working. Sound quality was pretty poor comparedr to other devices I've used, but I did try it right after resyncing everything (before a restart). I won't actually judge it until I play with it again.
But yeah, it works. - piratebr0adcast, on 03/20/2009, -5/+6God... Look, yes, you're cool because you jailbroke your phone. So did I and almost everyone on Digg. Yes, we know all about PDAnet and iPhoneModem. This is just some cool new *****, and it's fun to play around with. Stop jerking yourselves off over what 1337 haxxors you are becuase you know ran quickpwn.
- mark076h, on 03/20/2009, -1/+2Does anyone know if the new Bluetooth features like stereo Bluetooth are working in the OS 3.0 Beta? i would like to get a Bluetooth stereo headset and use it with my iPhone to listen to music. This is the only reason i would upgrade to the beta right now?
- stuffradio, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1You heard correctly
- Beastmasta, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1already exists
- InorganicMatter, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1Until you get caught and kicked off their network.
- Lounger540, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1You can receive but not send atm.
- itsbob, on 06/22/2009, -0/+1No Jailbreak or sync with iTunes method here http://digg.com/apple/How_To_Activate_Internet_Tet ...
- henriklied, on 03/20/2009, -1/+2What? Someone –– let's just call him Joe for now –– found a torrent on TPB for the iPhone 3.0 beta yesterday. Joe opened iTunes and updated his 2.2.1 iPhone with the beta firmware, and has been running it smoothly since then. He also synced with iTunes afterwards.
- m3mn0n, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1What about Rogers or Fido?
- Resiroth, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1if you have anything but a 3g iphone apparently you can upgrade/downgrade as you wish. You need to disable internet connection and update though. Most people don't disable internet and flip out when it asks for dev .
- Seng, on 06/10/2009, -0/+1There's a torrent listed as 7a341 GM (Gold Master) - It definitely works on non-dev phones. I have it on my 3g right now - no tethering or MMS due to AT&T, but other than that, 100% functional. It syncs with iTunes just fine.
- RobotBuddha, on 03/21/2009, -0/+1Waving goodbye to my jailbroken apps is the dealbreaker for me. I don't care if it's fully stable, no backgrounder and I'm avoiding it.
- MrViklund, on 03/20/2009, -0/+1It's 2009. Buried.
- RobotBuddha, on 03/21/2009, -1/+2Has anyone ever been kicked off the network or overbilled for tethering an iphone? Every time the subject comes up, people warn about it. I've never heard of it actually happening though.
- MacHarborGuy, on 03/20/2009, -1/+1too many steps. besides, the Steve Martin guide is better, it was just 1 step.
- daridave, on 03/20/2009, -1/+1LOL that's what I thought to myself. "Well, do they want me to learn it or not !?" Anyway, it's lame, I buried it... cuz I'm with Rogers.
- frascellyboy273, on 03/20/2009, -1/+1sigh.... I guess I'll just wait like everyone else
- Flatlineskillz, on 03/21/2009, -1/+1I can add devices to my developer account email albanyiphonedev@gmail.com
- Myrth, on 03/20/2009, -2/+2Hey, will it work with iPod Touch??
Oh, wait... - cpjax, on 03/20/2009, -2/+2how exactly do they know if you have it going through the phone wouldnt it just look like the phone is using it ?
- stealthspc, on 03/20/2009, -4/+4No use. If you install it then it will lock your phone in test mode, you wont be able to sync it with iTunes, and AT&T will not activate your phone on their network. Oh and you can't downgrade once you upgrade. Not even with DFU mode.
Overall, really bad idea. Don't try it, unless you want to give yourself a 3 month break from the iPhone. ;) - blackdeath88012, on 03/20/2009, -2/+1:( im a iTouch owner too..
- lowtolerance, on 03/20/2009, -2/+1can i shake your hand? you are my new hero.
- haklab, on 03/21/2009, -1/+0Jailbreak, download PDANet from Cydia. Simple as that!
- stealthspc, on 03/20/2009, -5/+3I think this tutorial is a bad idea to try. AT&T is definitely going to pick up and bill you for it. The article gave a pretty good impression that AT&T knows if you're using it or not.
- whiteknives, on 03/20/2009, -5/+3With WMWifiRouter my 3G Tilt tethers to my phone's 802.11 to create a wireless ad-hoc network accessible just like any other hot spot. Once something like this comes to the iPhone I'll consider getting one.
- bakingoven, on 03/20/2009, -9/+6I am willing to add people to my developer account for a small donation to cover my cost.. add me to AIM ammar@me.com
