- ifruit, on 10/30/2009, -13/+30I bet you have a blast playing Sim City!
- jrm125, on 10/30/2009, -11/+28Sorry, but this is all hype. Logitech Mice are worlds beyond this in functionality and features.
I'm getting tired of this form over function BS just for the sake of doing it. - zangis, on 10/30/2009, -3/+18It's a mechanical click .... not touch based click.
- dvsbastard, on 10/30/2009, -1/+15You're *****' delusional...
- juliusthecat, on 10/30/2009, -0/+12Thanks for adding to the pile of *****.
- mason092, on 10/30/2009, -1/+11I lol'ed, but Sim City is actually fun.
- kirakun, on 10/30/2009, -2/+11I thought it was ... well ... magic.
- MonkeyFit, on 10/30/2009, -0/+9Are you talking about mouse acceleration?

I think you should stick to commenting on Youtube. - Nothlit, on 10/30/2009, -1/+81) You have to lift your left finger in order to right click. What other mouse in the world makes you do that (besides other Apple mice)?
2) No middle click. If you want to open links in a new tab, for instance, you're going to have to command-click everything.
3) Swiping the top of the mouse with your fingers is stupid. You can't really get the motion going while still trying to hold onto the mouse with your thumb and pinky, and you can't let go of the mouse or else it will go sliding across the desk when you attempt to swipe it.
I own an iMac and an iPhone, and I like them both. I think the aluminum Apple keyboard is great. But Apple continues to fail when it comes to making a usable mouse. At the moment I'm using a cheap $10 Dell mouse that has a normal scroll wheel, middle click, and regular left and right buttons. Apple just needs to admit that they can't really improve upon the mouse... - oldcrows40, on 10/30/2009, -2/+9I thought it was unicorns blood and pixie dust.
- arunforce, on 10/30/2009, -4/+11I don't know, I have a Logitech mouse, but I want to try this mouse and see how it stacks up before I jump to conclusions.
I'm no Apple fan by any means, but this seems kinda interesting by application, finally merging multi-touch and a mouse without a monitor. - bigsteve, on 10/30/2009, -0/+6In the years I've used an iPhone, I've never once had an issue with "accidental click." I've had the auto-correct do some cruel things to me as I tried to text message while inebriated, but no wayward clicks.
- rssej, on 10/30/2009, -0/+6Most are these comments are from those who haven't tried the mouse out yet.

- ifruit, on 10/30/2009, -5/+11Ya, you're right. I'm actually a rock-star and I play games all day on my sweet gaming rig made by Apple.
- andnever, on 10/30/2009, -0/+5please dont be stupid. the mighty mouse clicks and the magic mouse clicks. if you have not personally walked into an apple store/best buy and tried one please feel free to refrain from commenting.
- mrBitch, on 10/30/2009, -0/+5@ TrancePhreak, RE: " .. Article says it's a capacitive sensor just like the iTouch/iPhone... "
That's only because the article is explaining how the touch technology works.
The Magic Mouse also happens to have a mechanical click movement :
http://gizmodo.com/5385834/apple-magic-mouse-hands ...
" .. The surface can also simulate the left and right buttons. Unlike in previous Apple's mice, the two buttons work perfectly. This time they also added physical feedback, so when you click the buttons, you actually get the entire surface to click—like the original clear Apple mouse." - anderzole, on 10/30/2009, -1/+6This article is a joke, and doesnt add any insight whatsoever
- Braxo, on 10/30/2009, -2/+7This mouse you can also click with tactile feedback.
- jrm125, on 10/30/2009, -7/+12I'm going to have to disagree. Having played with this, the lack of a physical scroll wheel and additional buttons is a major drawback in functionality. The touch sensitivity leads to a lot of mistaken commands and ultimately isn't useful or worth the price of admission.
And if you think glossy screens are the only time they've placed form over function, I'd like to refer you to the Macbook Air. Smaller notebooks have more in the way of input ports.
Or check out the first gen iPod touches that lacked external volume controls. Or how about the other terrible mice Apple has made in the past (original iMac round ones?). What about the dropping of Firewire recently because they claimed it wouldn't fit in the case? No eject buttons on the Mac Pro (which when you have 2 drives on there means your keyboard eject button is useless for one of the drives).
The list goes on and on. I love my MacbookPro...it's a great laptop...and does what I need. But so often I look at their products and ask...were you making an art project or a functional piece of equipment? This is one of those times. - DjOverEZ, on 10/30/2009, -3/+8Great! Next you're gonna tell me there's no Santa Claus!
- ShadowXOR, on 10/30/2009, -15/+19I'm a huge Apple fan but their last mouse sucked. I don't think anything they make can replace my Razer. Yes I game on my Mac, and yes it works well.
- harvinator24, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4The is a tactile response. The mouse clicks down when you click.
- mrBitch, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4You're cute when you cry.
- harvinator24, on 10/30/2009, -0/+41)You don't not need to lift your finger off the mouse to right click.
2) Not having a center click sucks.
3) Do you lack dexterity? It is not that hard. - vibr8, on 10/30/2009, -8/+12mac haters, lol
- mrBitch, on 10/30/2009, -0/+4RE: " .. is essentially a touchpad on a mouse .. "
Once I started using the trackpad on a MacBook, it felt so backward using a mouse on a desktop computer.
If this Magic Mouse "touchpad" has the same attributes as the MacBook trackpads, then I'm definitely buying one. - andyroo316, on 10/30/2009, -2/+6Yes, but it's (the Air's) form was due to it's function: It's function was to be easy to carry around. Therefore it was small.
If a Macbook Pro stripped out everything apart from what the Air has, that WOULD be form over function, as it puts the functionality at the expense of the form.
The Macbook Air didn't do this, as no functionality was lost for what it was made for: You can stick it into a smaller bag, you can carry it around without it breaking your arm. Those are it's main functions as a travel computer. It's function was never to be a powerhouse machine that you uploaded stuff from a camera while hooked up to an external hardrive while plugged into a mouse and keyboard while plugged into multiple USB devices. It was made for when you just wanna have a computer where you usually wouldn't, and therefore wouldn't have those devices with you either.
Form = things that have no functional point. They are there to look pretty.
Function = things that have a functional use.
Think of it as brains vs beauty.
Tell me right now how many things you usually have plugged into the USBs on your laptop on a plane trip or when you're sat on your bed with it. I'm guessing none or one. Guess what? The Air would be perfect for that. It's what it was made for. It's FUNCTION. - vibr8, on 10/30/2009, -1/+5trance, lol
- spentcigarettes, on 10/31/2009, -0/+4you've been able to do a secondary button on an apple mouse for seriously years now
- Ahmon, on 10/30/2009, -0/+3Someone enjoys mouse acceleration a little much. That's a standard, bro.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/30/2009, -4/+7It IS a Magic Mouse... it's a +5 mouse of clicking.
- Chiefsfan42, on 10/30/2009, -1/+4You're telling me I've been practicing spells all week for nothing?
- mlw4428, on 10/30/2009, -6/+9What's magical about it is the freaking cost. It (as far as I understand it to be) is essentially a touchpad on a mouse....without buttons or scroll wheels. Maybe I've just sunk far into the anti-Apple side of fanboyism. But I just don't see why I'd shell out $70 for a mouse that would seem to have more annoyances than benefits. I like the tactile feedback of my mouse, it lets me know when I've clicked something. This seems like it'd have more problems then it's worth.
I'm sorry, Apple, but today your magical tricks seem to be making people pay more $$$ for tools that are less functional than the existing ones. - Raumschiff, on 10/30/2009, -1/+4And guess what. You don't have to buy it! Cheers.
- mrBitch, on 10/30/2009, -1/+4Awwwwww.... So you're that little guy in the corner that's desperate for attention, with your sad little eyes and your trembling little lips....
- CraigReed, on 10/30/2009, -3/+6a macintosh is a brand of a computer, therefore my macbook pro is a macbook pro weather I have it running Mac OS or Windows (insert version here)
- rajj007, on 10/30/2009, -2/+4Apple's good innovations like this always keeps it ahead. I simply love Apple products
- andyroo316, on 10/30/2009, -8/+10Form over function: Pretty much any homebuilt computer with pretty flashing lights and little LCD screens embedded into the tower showing every little thing you don't care about that's going on in your computer. IE: pointless little things that add no purpose to the product other than to look pretty.
Apple's minimalist design philosophy actually prevents this happening for the most part. Yes, this minimalism makes them attractive, but that isn't actually form OVER function.
I'm pretty sure that multi-touch is function over form.
Yes, Apple's products are pretty to look at, but to claim anything is form over function is to totally misunderstand the phrase.
The ONLY time Apple has gone for form over function was the glossy screens.
If this mouse was incrusted with diamonds and had a little LCD screen to show how much pressure was being exerted on it, and didn't have multitouch, I'd agree it was form over function.
As it is, this mouse is function over form in a MASSIVE way. Multitouch is the latest innovation in how OSes interact with the hardware. - stockjones, on 10/30/2009, -1/+3Where I work, the two head graphic designers in our marketing dept hate Apple mice. We may disagree on things regarding OSX vs windows etc, but one thing we all can agree on is that Apple mice tend to get too fancy and minimilist. Both of them, hardcore mac users use logitech mice so they have the scroll wheel and the additonal buttons for context menus etc. Its a mystery why Apple makes such sucky mice devices. Just use what works already.
- krisrm, on 10/30/2009, -2/+4Customers will vote with their money... a lot of people will take one look at the lack of third button and go "meh". Multitouch is cool, but that's about all it is - the way desktop operating systems are designed, it's simply not useful enough.
If you're still thinking this isn't a function over form thing, just look at the shape of the mouse. Actually, any Apple mouse. The hockey-puck mouse was round, the Mighty Mouse was shaped like a pill, and this thing looks like a squashed seashell. They're designed to look cool, not to fit in your hand.
Also, what are you talking about? The whole point of the Macbook Air was form: it's really, really thin - yet others have beaten the air in thickness, and still manage more than one USB port. Furthermore, it's a pretty heavy "travel laptop". A netbook is lighter, far cheaper, and has more ports - but they don't look "cool" enough for Apple to make them. - jboiCali, on 10/30/2009, -1/+3I like Apple products, but to be honest I hate their mouses. The Mighty Mouse I had was fine until the scroll ball stopped scrolling. Then I had to start doing surgery on it every few months. Then it stopped right clicking. Since then I've gone back to a standard logitech scroll mouse. I love it.
For me to consider ever using an Apple mouse, two things would have to happen:
Better shape: my logitech mouse has a big hump in it that makes it fit my hand perfectly, just like every mouse that isn't Apple.
Ability to right and left click at the same time: seriously, you can't play Fallout 3 without that feature
I don't see why they can't get this right. Oh well, at least they make other good things. - mrBitch, on 10/30/2009, -0/+2TrancePhreak's world is not real...
- mrBitch, on 10/30/2009, -0/+2@ CrimsonFlash, RE: " .. I hate no-button mice."
It's got two "buttons".
The Magic Mouse "buttons" also happen to have a mechanical click movement :

- mister711, on 10/30/2009, -0/+1The magic is people going out and buying the damn thing. remove the rose color glasses
- MerchantofPanic, on 10/30/2009, -4/+5Apple has been ***** up mice for years.
