- zforrester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Nasty will only make your service slower and more relunctant. Be as nice as possible about, and people will take care of you.
- EnderW, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What this story shows is that the brand doesn't matter. It's the people who are helping you, and I'm not saying Apple is bad either.
- Linkage155, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Employees: There are the good, and there are the bad, in every store, every where, live with it :)
- pudquick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4DUGG. WOULD DIGG AGAIN A++++
Seriously. UV Apple store is full of *******. I was helping someone with their eMac and determined that their CRT had issues (red kept dropping out on the display) and they said they were going to Seattle, so I recommended them bringing their machine along and having them look at it. Guy had _just_ gotten it.
He was given a complete runaround, worst customer service of his life. He called me while he was there. I was *shocked* at what I heard. I recommended then that he take it to The Mac Store just up the hill - there he got some real service (like in the story above).
UV Apple Store = horrible customer service. Period. - phore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Makes me wonder if I want to buy a Macbook right away.... its gunna be tough to wait until second gen macbooks arrive.
- cobra1122, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i agree with enderW its true =) its realy the person behind the desk.i have worked in many customer service area's and i would go out of my way to nice people and the mean people i would do what was requaired of me.
- x0923, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5i had a very similar experience with the whine after weeks of fighting with applecare support and being treated like i was crazy , i finally got satisfaction and a free upgrade to 2.16
BUT ONLY AFTER FIGHTING FOR A WEEK STRAIGHT
my message is DO NOT GIVE UP WHINE IS NOT WITHIN SPEC, EVER
THEY WANT YOU TO GIVE UP< DO NOT GIVE UP
the worst part is not only do the people on the phone act like they are so damn smart, and you are just so stupid and annoying for calling them every day. the fanboys on the forum are total jerks. just trying to deter people from posting their grievances! what losers ALL OF THEM
my 3rd mbp is whine free. week 11. well i shouldn't say whine free,, but its much much lower then my previous macbookpros and is at an acceptable level. hardly can hear it with ear 3 inches away
also: there are other problems such as the case not being perfect at the seams, the battery doesnt fit snugly its loose and hangingout ulesss you add some tape in the hole to fill it up,! and the flickering lcd at the lowest brightness BUT OH WELL THEY DONT EXIST RIGHT APPLE? - rick2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2makes me glad to be on my g4 tbh.
- x0923, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3the whine is a mass hallucination
, NOT! - kazem, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It's just a bad idea to buy a first generation device.
- Yaanu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's what they said about Pokemon cards.
...
How much do they go on eBay again?
EDIT: http://www.duggmirror.com/apple/Horrible_Apple_Store_Experience_Turns_Good/ - Boondoggle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That is not my experience. I'm in there at least once a month either buying or browsing. I bought an iPod vid 30 gb there, dropped it the same day, and they just gave me another one. Fixed my PB's backlit keyboard, no problem. Everyone knowledgeable and courteous.
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I agree. I'm definitely going to buy a Macbook, but I may wait a couple of months.
- andru, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Lego - You really sound like a complete idiot, being that you don't know me and all...
I don't know where the hard drive is located? Um, I have replaced the drives of many a Mac mini, iMac, and PowerBook for testing purposes.
I couldn't reproduce the error at the store? Wrong. They wouldn't ALLOW me to. I told them that the whine doesn't occur at boot up, and if they gave me 5 minutes, I could show them. They weren't willing.
Just run a Live CD when the drive fails? So, just ignore the fact that I have a dead hard drive?
It's not typical Mac mentality - it is consumer mentality. I spent a bunch of money on something. No need for hand holding and spoon feeding. However, there is a need for it to work. If not, I expect it fixed immediately. - Dog_Paddle, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3:'(
- abdulla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Amen to that. I've had grief with the Apple Store on Elizabeth St here in Melbourne, but the one on Bourke St, part of the same chain, has been amazing with support and have some of the best employees. I thoroughly enjoy dealing with them and they are always helpful and friendly, I actually enjoy talking to them. Due to their amazing service I prefer to go to them even if I can get the same product from another store for cheaper. I'd rather deal with people who care and be provided with excellent service. The Elizabeth St store however, they couldn't even keep a Nano on hold for me for 3 hours and often treat you as if you don't exist.
- A5204, on 08/13/2009, -1/+1So, how long until Colin and Topher are fired for not following policy?
- legopacific, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2"I couldn't reproduce the error at the store" Then say that in your post! Don't leave ***** out just because it makes for better copy on your half-assed site. As for the Mac mentality, you're proving it right now--by following up your whiney post with ad hominem attacks on anyone who calls your bluff. Somehow I think there's more to the story.
Also, if it's so critical that you get your precious toy working at 9PM, then just pop in a live CD of whatever *nix u want, do you work, and take the thing into the shop at a decent hour.
Guess we can at least be happy that you're off the front page now, so no more linkage for you... - andru, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Once again - I could easily reporduce the error at the store. They just wouldn't allow me to. Not sure what I am leaving out, but would love to hear it. Also, I am not quite sure about the bluff of mine that you are calling. I laid it out completely as it happened, and that message was sent to both stores. Obviously, the employees know what happened, why would I change anything? It makes no sense.
As for the live CD idea, I am sure that would work great for others. However, for me, it doesn't. I am working with video files that need to be encoded in multiple formats on the drive itself. Nonetheless, it wasn't a problem. The guys at the Apple store were happy to help out at that time, which I totally appreciated. Obviously you don't understand the difference between a work machine and a precious toy though...not sure how that came across as me just wanted to play around with my MacBook Pro for fun.
Sorry you feel the site is half-assed. Lucky for me, most don't agree, otherwise I would have a terrible time employing myself and the team of writers we have. - panique, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Try to exchange the same unit in one of my stores once a day for 3 days straight, and I'd tell you to go ***** off too. The real lesson here is for the gearlive boys, don't try to solve an engineering problem via 1st-level customer service.
- antoniojvr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2This is why my next laptop will be an Apple laptop (my first) :)
- frem001, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2yeah unfortunately you have to get nasty in order to get what you want, at least his LA experience was better and they did the right thing.
- legopacific, on 10/12/2007, -9/+2Typical Mac mentality at work here: I spent way too much money on this pretty thing so will someone please hold my hand and spoon-feed me?
This guy claims he's a Mac expert but doesn't know where the hard drive is located, he can't reproduce the error at the store and he doesn't have sense enough to just run a live CD when the drive finally fails.
Now he posts this tale of woe to his company website where their motto is "enter the high tech lifestyle." Apparently this guy doesn't know tech and has neither life nor style.
