Maybe this is a mistake to post this message... as some people seem to have absolutely no other things to do than bash the iPhone or other Apple/Microsoft products. Lot of childish posts around at hot topics like iPhone etc. but then this is digg...
But hell, I give it a try anyway. This is my experience, and yes , __ I actually do own the damn phone and use it everyday __. Is it a perfect phone? Hell no. It's still missing a few key features that even the cheapest of cheapest Nokia phones have, but still the total package/experience IMHO is at least good or very good. And I do have good faith in Apple that they will add the gaping missing features like MMS, copy & paste etc.. features what I and a lot of other people expect to be the very basic phone features. And as we Finns say "toivossa on hyvä elää..."
Anyway back to topic. I have exactly the opposite experience with 2.0.1 and 2.0.2 softwares.
I live in Finland. I'm using Telia-Sonera network and I'm having *gasp* zero problems. I bought the iPhone about two or three weeks ago. iTunes offered/installed a new 2.0.1 software right from the start and today I updated the iPhone to the 2.0.2 version.
Zero dropped calls. 2.0.2 seem to work just fine on 3G networks. I just finished a marathon call with my friend at my sisters house with very poor 3G reception conditions (1-2-0 bars only) and the phone worked flawlessly during 50min++ phone call. I have no idea if the phone dropped to EDGE or plain GSM during the call, but then, who cares because it was transparent. I have made several other calls today and days before with or without 3G and I have had zero problems. GPS? I just tried it and it seems to work very well, if not better than before (placebo maybe, don't know for sure...).
So far the experience with 2.0.2 has been excellent. I don't seem to have the "laggy keyboard" symptom anymore either. For some reason the keyboard lagged like hell at random times, usually going back to "home screen" and then going back to writing the message helped, sometimes not... but there was a huge lag after pressing a key, something like 0.2-0.5s just terrible. 2.0.2 seems to have fixed that one although only time will tell.
So far so good. Maybe I'm just lucky, or maybe Finland has an excellent (?) GSM/3G/etc. coverage or something different compared to our AT&T "brothers"..but apart from a few annoying things (like the random laggy keyboard) the iPhone experience has been very good.
So there you have it, I hate sounding like some bad English using Apple salesman :), but that's my experience with iPhone so far. Maybe this thing has gotten a bit out of hand. Sure people are having genuine problems, but just skim through the Apple forums for a while, for example gazillion people seem to complain that their previous phone showed 5 bars and iPhone only 2 bars etc... it's just sad. - inactive, on 08/20/2008, -3/+3LOL. The majority of iPhone users are going about their day without any problems. They're making real money at fancy jobs, while you and your Microsoft Fanboy cronies run around the internet, making snide comments in a vague hope that maybe somebody will be affected by it and NOT buy an iPhone. Jealousy loves company.
- steve9924, on 08/20/2008, -1/+1I don't think I've ever had a cel phone that doesn't drop calls like crazy. WHY???
