- meshman, on 11/14/2007, -179/+925Yes, bashing your compeition always works. No, it doesn't make you look like a childish smug-assed arrogant *****. It saves you from actually talking about what your product can do.
"How can the Mac help me get my work done?"
"Oh, because Windows sucks."
"Well, what kind of programs are available?"
"That's easy. Windows sucks."
"Is it easy to use?"
"Yes, because Windows sucks."
"I'm told Macs are great for print production. Is that true?"
"I don't know but Windows sure does suck." - directedition, on 11/14/2007, -30/+643Alright, I get it already, I'll switch to XP.
- inactive, on 11/14/2007, -28/+572So the commercial's point is that Windows Vista's strongest competitor is Windows XP, not Leopard? ;)
- eatrains, on 11/14/2007, -107/+449And Vista isn't just another iteration in the Windows NT branch?
The only thing worse than a sheep is a blind wolf. - inactive, on 11/14/2007, -143/+476What are you and Microsoft going steady or something? Who gives a damn that Apple makes fun of Microsoft. You think that only goes one way? You think PCs users haven't been making fun of Mac users for the last fifteen years? Grow up. If you would get your head out of your ass, you would notice that Macs work with Windows now. Boot Camp is built directly into Leopard. It evens provides the drivers I need to run Windows so that it's sort of like an extra app on my Intel Mac. I use it to play games, but that's all. So I have the best of both worlds.
- mattewood, on 11/14/2007, -60/+390I've been using Windows for years (after finally giving up my Amiga's). I still use WinXP, but damn Apple has earned my respect from preventing it's extinction.. they were so close to dying off completely! The resurgence of Apple and the Mac brands is very powerful... in combination with Vista's flop, it's revolutionary. They are poised to take a deep market share.
Now that Apple is selling hardware and software.. their next step will be dropping prices slightly. I think that's the second biggest obstacle for gaining new users.. the upfront price is somewhat staggering. Although, when you look at the total ownership cost comparisons, Apples products are a great value.
Anywho.. funny commercial. It's funny because it's actually true.. if there was no truth, it would just be pathetic capitalistic libel. - inactive, on 11/14/2007, -26/+286Funny, that ad didn't tell me anything about Apple products.
- inactive, on 11/14/2007, -25/+265http://www.packetshaped.com/comics/060619.jpg
- davebailey, on 11/14/2007, -67/+259Well, it probably isn't politic to also point out that the Leopard upgrades haven't been going that smoothly either...
http://news.google.com/news?q=leopard+problems - JasonCox, on 11/14/2007, -55/+233I have 3 friends who upgraded to Leopard within days of it's release.
Two have already downgraded back to Tiger.
One maintains that 'Windows sucks' but still bitches about Leopard daily.
And no, that's not a joke. - thushan, on 11/14/2007, -485/+661Well thats all Apple can really do and what annoys me about Apple as a company. Every event they host, every "conference" they conduct it seems almost normal to throw a punch at the Microsoft Empire.
No wonder we have little fanboi's running around digging me down right now. Your just following the herd of sheep:
http://bertc.com/subfour/herd_of_sheep.htm
Leopard may have 300 features, but your really paying for just another iteration in the OS X 10.0 branch:-) - Afronautica, on 11/14/2007, -28/+176This commercial made me think:
How responsible are Microsoft's failures for Apple's successes? - ophello, on 11/14/2007, -51/+185I'm digging you down because you're full of yourself and are just as much of a fanboy of windows as any apple user.
- inactive, on 11/14/2007, -36/+155Haven't yet heard stories of users downgrading their PCs back to Tiger, or Apple being forced to sell new Macs with Tiger installed instead of Leopard.
- estacado, on 11/14/2007, -11/+123It's because much of Apple's strategy is about being cool. And one way of convincing people that you're cool is by telling people that the other guy sucks. As long as it works, they're going to keep doing it.
- vtnerd, on 11/14/2007, -55/+162Buried because fanboism is lame.
- therearenorules, on 11/14/2007, -25/+125usually the mac guy is a total db, but this time, PC totally ripped on himself.
- Wiini, on 11/14/2007, -62/+159Getting old. Apple is 10x more of an evil corp than Microsoft. I can't even build my own Apple computer. Can't buy macs from anyone but Apple... my only choice is to go with Apple for everything. They're the Devil.
- inactive, on 11/14/2007, -7/+96Competition is good for the consumer. Remember that.
- Zippo, on 11/14/2007, -11/+97Apple's version numbering scheme is somewhat deceptive, really. It makes people think there are only minor revisions between releases like 10.4 and 10.5. Sure, they aren't MAJOR changes, but honestly, if it were a major change, that would be bad. Apple's got a solid system made that works well. To throw that away and make an entirely new OS would be a waste. There's no reason for Apple to make an "OS 11"... there's honestly no need. However, if another company were naming OS X, Leopard is different enough from 10.0 that it might be called Mac OS 14 or 15.
The difference between releases of OS X is comparable to Windows 95 to 98 - sure it looks mostly the same and runs almost all of the same programs, but anyone who's used the two knows how much of a difference there really is. Anyone's who's used Leopard and, say, Panther or Jaguar, can tell you how different they are and how much improvement's been made.
The difference between 10.4 and 10.5 is not similar to XP SP1 and XP SP2. Apple released 10 smaller "service packs" for Tiger over the course of 18 months (on top of security and bug fixes), constantly improving the system. In comparison, Microsoft waits for years to release huge, massive service packs. Sure, the updates are more noticeable, but they wait way too long to release them. I mean, XP came out six years ago and they still haven't released SP3. - cebbs, on 11/14/2007, -27/+113Vista runs surprisingly well on my AMD 3800+, 1 gig of ram, and nvida 7800 GT... I had no problems "downgrading" to Vista.
- inactive, on 11/14/2007, -24/+107Oh, ha, ha, you conveniently ignore the Unix certification, integrated 64-bit compatibility (Xcode 3.0)/ LP-64 architecture for addressing huge data sets, Core Animation, the Ruby and Python integration in Leopard’s new Objective-C 2.0, NSCollectionView, Dashcode and Calendar Store.
To say nothing about the user level features like Time Machine, Spaces, Quick Look, Stacks, Boot Camp, and Remote Desktop Express integration in iChat. Oh yes, but Vista finally has security that doesn't suck and let's see, Aero, which rapes RAM and little children. Vista also includes the benefits of Windows Genuine Advantage, as well as DRM for high definition video. Oh, the joy that is Vista! - inactive, on 11/13/2007, -18/+80I see your point. And unfortunately this is probably the "worst" one they've done yet.
- DD00, on 11/13/2007, -29/+85Of course they take a shot at Microsoft. They have the major market share and their product is mediocre at best, especially for the average user who knows very little about a computer. Welcome to competition, tell Microsoft they should make a better product if they or you don't want people pointing out how inferior their current ones are. That has nothing to do with being an Apple fanboy. Just look at Ubuntu's success, Microsoft is no longer the only option and it certainly is not the best.
- SirBotchness, on 11/13/2007, -31/+85I like how they continue not to show what the operating system can do. Good job, promote XP and Vista more than your own product. They must be smart.
- PhuzzyDay, on 11/13/2007, -19/+73Sure. Blame Vista for the fact that all the hardware manufacturers decided to abandon driver development for their previous models. It's THEIR fault Vista is a hard option to swallow.
- inactive, on 11/13/2007, -78/+125That's why I finally bought my first ever laptop (and first new computer in 9 years) and it's 17inch macbook. I'm done with Windows.
- defectDS, on 11/13/2007, -2/+42I really don't get this whole "sheep" concept. If I use a product someone else is using and I like it, I am a sheep? Am I expected to... make my own OS?
- Nossie, on 11/14/2007, -5/+41Its not just Apple you know.... Sun and IBM have been doing it for years.
Its a sad state of affairs when on one side you have global respected standards, and on the other you have Microsoft. - izzybr, on 11/14/2007, -3/+36You should check out the ads microsoft places on Linux sites
- Balanced, on 11/13/2007, -7/+36As a counter, note that a large percentage of these seem to be related to people using APE, which si pretty much just one of those things likely to break stuff.
- snazzydrew, on 11/14/2007, -19/+47I like my Vista. Still have a few funky kinks to work out though.
Duggit because the ad is funny. - fantasyflamz, on 11/13/2007, -11/+38When I try to open it it crashes firefox. :/
- Twelve-60, on 11/14/2007, -7/+32Oh wow, that dollar sign was about as clever as the rest of your comment.
- jcaino, on 11/13/2007, -17/+42after microsoft has been bashing everything that isn't them, it's nice to see someone swinging back.
although, it would be nice to see Apple be a bit more upfront about it's NIX internals, ala IBM. - LeeSoong, on 11/13/2007, -4/+27Vote Ron Ubuntu - oh, wait . . .
- rompom7, on 11/13/2007, -0/+23Yeah, there was an article a while back that said Apple did some marketing studies that showed most people liked the PC guy and thought the Mac guy was annoying.. So the writers are now writing the ads so that the Mac guy doesn't brag, or be a general douche, and the PC guy sits there ripping into himself.
- vulapine, on 11/13/2007, -7/+30Interesting that in the 80s the opposite was true. Microsoft gained success from Apple's failures. The proverbial worm seems to have turned.
- rompom7, on 11/13/2007, -12/+34No wait...
"You think PCs users haven't been making fun of Mac users for the last fifteen years?"
Where did he mention users making fun of other users? He said Apple, as a company, keep throwing punches at Microsoft as a company... If you can find anything at all from Microsoft making fun of Apple, please do show it here.
I don't even understand what the rest of your argument is.. because it goes of on a tangent ranting about nothing that thushan said.
And clearly thushan has no devotion to Microsoft, he wouldn't admit to it being an empire otherwise. - onimusha115, on 11/13/2007, -8/+29I finally upgraded to vista a few weeks ago and I have been happy with it. I dont know what people are bitching about. So far I haven't had any compatibility issues with it, and it runs smoothly. You just cant have a poor computer. Mine isnt top of the line either (3.0 ghz dual core/ 256mb nVidia video card/ 2 gigs of ram) I consider it mid range and its performing without any issues.
- iticu, on 11/12/2007, -1/+21You're both idiots. ^^
- Shawn4168, on 11/13/2007, -32/+52I'm in the market to buy a new laptop for gaming, and I was seriously considering getting a MacBook Pro for a while, because I know that Apple makes quality hardware. However, Apple's continued record of arrogance and immaturity have led me to realize I never want to be a customer of theirs. I'm sure that there are other people out there that feel the same way. Until Steve Jobs learns to stop loving the smell of his own farts, I'm going with Dell.
- KyjL, on 11/14/2007, -6/+25Don't forget that Steve Jobs doesn't donate a cent of his salary to any charity
- yabos, on 11/12/2007, -2/+21OS X IS UNIX
- thejerm, on 11/13/2007, -9/+28Negative campaigns do work... that is why politicians use them.
- skinfitz, on 11/13/2007, -2/+21It would be funnier if there were no problems with Leopard.
- koick, on 11/13/2007, -2/+20Very well put, and let's also point out that Apple has put out *five* 10.x releases in the time it took Microsoft to develop and release the floundering Vista.
- Rustymetal, on 11/14/2007, -25/+43Funny because I'm someone who installed vista, regretted it for months, then got off my lazy ass and reformatted again back to XP. Never going back to vista in my life.
- Velnich, on 11/13/2007, -5/+23Buried.
Can you imagine the riots if MS made ads regularly making fun of Apple? Keep your advertising focused on why your product is better, not why the competitor is worse. -
