- jhaydon, on 10/12/2008, -5/+60Finally a photo that isn't blurry or close up. Interesting about the latchless design; I assume it will secure shut magnetically like the current Macbook?

- lorductape, on 10/12/2008, -4/+57I'm sorry I have to disagree with you guys saying that this makes the pro obselete. I work at an apple reseller, and frequently, customers decide the computer based off of the specs, that's right- even people who are computer illeterate understand when I explain the differences in processors and what you'd need them for. The people that need a pro-level computer will still be buying a pro-level computer.
- HappyScrappy, on 10/12/2008, -3/+47All ports on the left is not an improvement. I have all ports on the left on my MacBook (that I type this on) and I'd rather have one of the USB ports be on the right so I can plug in a mouse easier.
Also, if the MacBook really does lack Firewire that'll be rather sad. - akkibaba, on 10/12/2008, -0/+34Poorly spelled, incoherent rambling somehow implying OP would like to fellate the CEO of Apple
- ASheep, on 10/12/2008, -1/+29The latchless design is good, less moving parts means less breakable parts. The latch on my Macbook Pro seems a little flimsy for an otherwise solid laptop. Its looking like a nice redesign, too bad I only got my MBP 3 months ago. :)
- JamesMorris, on 10/12/2008, -47/+73Wow people are digging a picture of a case? Oh dear. How sad.
- tastypaste, on 10/12/2008, -0/+25From the thumbnail I thought the keys and touchpad were red. I thought Apple had lost their minds and were trying to emulate designs by Nike or something.
- dewey, on 10/12/2008, -0/+25Wow.
Have you ever worked with Audio before? USB2.0 has too high of a latency, Firewire does a lot of work in the hardware itself. - YoctoYotta, on 10/12/2008, -2/+26NUMBER BIGGER, EES GOOOOOOD
- BrendanSheehan, on 10/12/2008, -5/+28Leakity leak Mac leakity leak Mac leak leak..
Anyone who doesn't presume these leaks are deliberate has to be naive. They are making hype build like a mo-fo. - YoctoYotta, on 10/12/2008, -0/+20corded mice are cool, no batteries

- smspence, on 10/12/2008, -0/+14Why?
- smspence, on 10/12/2008, -0/+13Why do so many people call this "brushed" aluminum? It is aluminum, yes, but it does not have a brushed finish. Check out this thread for some insight into what a real "brushed aluminum" finish actually is:
http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=114028 - lorductape, on 10/12/2008, -0/+12No, I work at a certified reseller and specialist service center. I know more about the machines than the guys at the apple stores do, because there's so few employees where I am that we have to do it all.
my point is that the distinction between MB and MBP is a moot point anyway, customers for the most part don't see it that way. The distinction is nice from MY point of view because I can just lump customers into, you need the processing speed and power vs. you dont need the procesesing speed and power and just point them to the line of machines to look at, but really, it's an unneccesary distinction. People get the machines for waht they NEED the machines for. - BrendanSheehan, on 10/12/2008, -0/+12Yeah, the whole top, the side walls and the keyboard tray is one piece of aluminum, which would have to be machined out of a block of (high quality) aluminum. The end result is less screws, less parts to make up the whole notebook, and a more solid construction. It's a good thing, with one potential downside; if you drop it and it breaks you can't replace one part of it, you have to replace the whole top, which would likely be more expensive. I don't drop ***** though, so I'm all for it.
Contrast that with this the current MacBook Pro, which is made up of loads of different sections of folded and pressed aluminum sheeting. More flimsy and less solid in the hand: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/9a ...
I have some personal experience with machining and manufacturing. - exscape, on 10/12/2008, -3/+15Heh. Old before its initial launch. ;)
- CrimsonBlur, on 10/12/2008, -2/+13How would it waste aluminum? In a controlled environment the rest of the metal would just be melted and used again. It's not like they cut it out of the block and just throw the excess away. I'm not sure how it would be a waste of energy either...
I'm not saying that rumor is true though. - rowlodge, on 10/12/2008, -1/+12is this the "brick"?

- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -0/+9Darn, at first I thought the new Macbooks were going to be red
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2008, -2/+10Apple Fanboy: New case, MUST BUY!!!
- ExSlashdotter, on 10/13/2008, -0/+8If you've ever worked in IT in a Mac shop, you know that you can start a Mac in firewire disk mode, connect another Mac (firewire to firewire) and boot from the target.
Thats how we do all of our imaging, just boot off of a firewire drive and make an image.
No firewire on the macbook is going to be a GAMECHANGER in IT guys that work on Macs. - StephenCIreland, on 10/12/2008, -0/+8i cant see any firewire port
- CalcProgrammer1, on 10/12/2008, -0/+8Cheap is relative to how much money you have. Also, he might already have a good USB mouse, wired or wireless, and buying another would be pointless. Corded mice don't need batteries, so that may be another reason.
- jwdav, on 10/12/2008, -0/+8It looks like one of the differentiators between MacBook/MacBook Pro is going to be Firewire - which is a real shame.
Admittedly, you can use USB for simple file transfers in a low end machine, but forget audio/video work, target disk mode, bus-powered backup drives and universal bootable backup images. - inactive, on 10/12/2008, -1/+8wait till 3 days after the warranty is expired. then it will be.
- joelbranstein, on 10/12/2008, -0/+7Where did the speakers go? I'm guessing this is the 15". Quite frankly, if this is the MBP case, I'm not impressed - pretty much the same.
- StephenCIreland, on 10/12/2008, -0/+7no firewire at all
- jhaydon, on 10/12/2008, -2/+9If current speculation is correct, it would be unwise for Apple to charge twice as much money for a laptop that simply has more hard drive space or a better video card. Apple has always differentiated their Macbook and Macbook Pro product lines with very specific features, such as multitouch/backlit keyboard/aluminimum case. Unless they have something incredible up their sleeves, they may find themselves in a situation where it is hard for consumers to justify buying a Pro over the standard model, just for a few extra gigs of storage.
- SilverSeraph, on 10/12/2008, -0/+6How on earth ppl are posting the pics of spare parts before launching the product it self!
- BradBrown, on 10/12/2008, -0/+6Forget the lack of labels...the keyboard is red - it burns my tender eyes!
- kangy3213, on 10/12/2008, -3/+9omg you just got buried
- ultrafez, on 10/12/2008, -1/+7There are photographs of both, *****.
- SeraphX, on 10/13/2008, -2/+8No worse than digging wallpapers.
- cgrin, on 10/12/2008, -0/+6Uhh, I don't see FW400 on the Pro, but the 800 is still there. From right to left on the Pro case you have GigE, FW800 (Which is backwards compatible with 400 devices, provided you have the appropriate cable), 2x USB 2.0, MiniDVI, Audio In, Headphones/SPDIF out, and Express card. But what of the hole that has white behind it and the apparently covered with masking tape ports there on the front?
- Wynner3, on 10/12/2008, -1/+7Who f*cking cares? Unless they make it revolutionary it's the same damn thing over and over. A laptop is a laptop or in this case, a macbook is a macbook.
- seinman, on 10/12/2008, -0/+6I did have an Apple mouse that was designed to be plugged in to the right side of an Apple keyboard. I tried to use it on my Macbook, and the cord was not long enough to reach the right side and still be usable.
- Antialias, on 10/12/2008, -1/+7It is for multi touch gestures like pinch zooming, rotating images, etc.
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2008, -0/+5Yes but they're just not quite up to Voodoo in terms of luxury, yet.
- inactive, on 10/12/2008, -0/+5not a rectangular block. probably a piece cast close to the finished size, then machined to the final detail.
thats how they make "machined" almost anything (bike parts etc) - bone625, on 10/13/2008, -0/+5"I know I'm going to get buried for this..." comment when I know fully well that I'm going to get dugg up instead.
