High-quality photos and panorama shots from Apple's booth at NAB 2007
appleinsider.com — Apple Inc.'s presence at the National Association of Broadcasters conference this week includes a mind-boggling on-site server demonstration comprised of 3/4 Petabytes of storage space, 3 miles of fiber optic cable, 4 M2 Gb networks, 90 Xserves and 40 Xserve RAIDs.

- quomen, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Ok, so what?
I'm still waiting for the high quality HDR Macro shots from the booth. - ggriffit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Check out the I/O on the oct-core Mac Pro on page 2...INSANE! Dual fiber, dual ethernet, FW, Dual DVI, 4 lines probably running an analog HD something or other (possibly video out to the plasma mounted above it.) LOTS of $$ not counting the insane server setup.
- willynilly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"Check out the I/O on the oct-core Mac Pro on page 2"
OK, I did, and it revealed another Apple blunder. This computer's drive interface is SATA, and yet we still find no eSATA connector on the back.
WTF??? - jaydj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wow... Apple has totally invented the iBooth. This is exactly the kind of innovation that we have come to expect from Apple and the genius that is Steve Jobs. Does iBooth run Leopard? What a concept!
I can't wait to see the look on PC's face.
Seriously... it's a booth. - ubik70, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0You mean taken by interns working for their bigger competitor.
I have done work with Avid software, and it's huge (hell they even own Pinnacle) enterprise thing that sits in major broadcasters.
This is a trade show for broadcast, but fan-boys will vote it up coz it's got half eaten fruit as it's logo.
Final cut pro might be good software, but it's not as important as Avid's product line up.

I, uh, think I just had a Geekgasm. UGH. Now I'm sticky...- corevette, on 10/12/2007, -0/+410 years into the future...your 'geekgasm' will be pathetic for 3/4 of a petabyte
i'm waiting for the 'yobibyte'

- Ubergoober3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Some of the laptops in the apple lounge were not macs.
- hadimirza, on 03/26/2008, -0/+14ZOMG...admin_kick
- zioxide, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Probably because they were being used to showcase Final Cut Server.. the client runs on both Mac and Windows computers.
- gafasiesornivek, on 10/12/2007, -21/+3I bet the Xservers were there to help make final cut seem faster than it actually is on a vanilla Mac workstation.
- hadimirza, on 03/26/2008, -3/+18The Xservers look like they can run the whole friggin' city.
- nycmac247, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7you don't know about Xsan?
- SuperSunny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It runs fine at the workstations over at the Apple Stores I go to. And they aren't that powerful either. All it requires is a good GFX card, HD space, and more than a gig of ram. And we're talking about advanced HD editing. That's awesome. Final Cut Pro 5.1 ran decent on my MacBook (2 gb of ram).
- zioxide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Final Cut Pro runs fine on my 1.33GHz iBook G4 with 1GB of ram. Rendering is just a tad slow.
- cbreaker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1FCP5 with HDV isn't TOO bad on a dual-core Opteron (oops!) Avid Xpress is a lot faster, though.
There's a serious problem with it FCP5, that cannot be remedied: You can't pull in full HDV tapes with it. FCP will automatically slice up the footage at seemingly random points (and yes, scene detection is disabled) and there's nothing you can do about it. Check out Creative Cow - everyone there has the same problem.
It completely renders the multi-cam stuff useless with HDV. In fact, it pretty much makes all HDV useless with FCP. - zioxide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why would you want 60 minutes of footage in one clip anyways?
- yabos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It runs fine. The XServes are obviously for speeding up rendering. Now go away troll.
- ripstuntz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3VERY cool
lots of cables :P- Dotcommer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Reminds me of that massive main computer in Evangelion. Haha. Anyone else think of that?
- triscuitbiscuit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah and I sure would not want to have untangled them if they got tangled...
- kanned, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Uh, I hope those where faux Barcelona chairs in the Apple lounge.

- jamit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4and they sure were comfy
- jerr0328, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14NSFW, these pictures are not suitable for Microsoft employees and data center workers who don't have Xserves. (Geekpron!)
- kamau84, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6I don't see why this is so cool. It's a booth. A nice looking booth with lots of tech, but still a booth. In the future, whenever anyone challenges the claim that "Digg users are apple freaks" all you have to do is post a link to this story.
- Electric_Sheep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Waahh!
That Apple Lounge had something like 50 Barcelona chairs! Those things are design classics and are handmade in spain by skilled artisans. You can only buy them in pairs. They're probably more expensive than all of the macs that were at the booths put together.
/design student - u16085, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Even if you were handed all that hardware, you couldn't afford to run it. (or know what to do with it). If you take the basic equation out (Pr0n) youre left with nothing.
- UCFmethod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I could download all of usenet and un-par2 / un-rar in no time ;-)
