- Wailord, on 10/12/2007, -2/+45And make Life easier.
- caliform, on 10/12/2007, -2/+41I'm sorry, but how is a documented feature in the terminal application 'hidden'?

I can't help but wonder what kind of pr0n it is... - Dumbledorito, on 10/12/2007, -3/+30Live. Don't talk to me about live.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20At first I thought Apple was helping Microsoft with their Live platform.
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14"Too much sensitive stuff on the other monitor"
OH SHIZNIT TEH BRAGGART!!! - strelok1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"And no, this isn’t my normal desktop, I setup one of my side monitors as an example. Too much sensitive stuff on the main display."
... what a retard. - smhill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12sudo osascript -e "set Volume 0" (mute)
sudo osascript -e "set Volume 10" (max) - pastasauce, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10You flailed at live.
- desistere, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Mac O SX is like a pimp title of honor. You can be a macdaddy, but only a select few are the Mac O SX.
- estacado, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Life Free Or Dye Hard.
- Derfus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8looks like Irssi , you can install it with DarwinPorts or Fink Commander. He's in a warez channel though (shocking!)
Fink Commander is nice cus it has a GUI to install this stuff, install fink too:
http://osxdaily.com/2007/02/19/finkcommander-easily-install-unix-software-from-a-gui/
DarwinPorts is command line:
http://www.oreillynet.com/lpt/wlg/582
Irssi:
http://www.irssi.org/ - unfinity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I found it before I even turned my computer on.
I am SMART! Much smarter than YOU! gnoMON! - gnomon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I found it in my first 15 minutes of using OSX, too.

AKA - "My porn collection." - sonnyF, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Uh...you can always look at the shell prompt to check for the username and hostname.
- wonginator1221, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6What irc is he using in the top left? Looks pretty nifty =D
- bedouin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"It must be obvious day at camp stupid."
- mercurysquad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"OH SHIZNIT TEH BRAGGART!!!"
Oh tell us about it! He even said "one of my" side monitors... - Codee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Dang! I feel so "Unix" illiterate right now.
Well actually sometime before this too, but you guys aren't helping any! - Derfus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4this feature isn't exactly hidden, but it is useful
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4it was written in macworld last month also.
- mrfunktastic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4@aclements -
smhill just pimped your O SX - smkelly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You don't need sudo for that.
osascript -e "set volume 4"
works for me. - aaronsca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Us old timers just set the titlebar in the ~/.profile thusly:
### -- VT100 escape sequence to set titlebar to hostname
printf "\033]0;%s\007" `uname -n | cut -f1 -d.`
Meh, whatever. - townsendmerino, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3ok, dugg because of the great article name
- ordminute, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I prefer Ubuntu but I'm occassionally on a Mac these days for work. One thing that would make my live easier would be speeding up the keystroke response in OS X. It just seems to be so slow compared to Ubuntu. Moving the actual cursor along a statement is also slow. I heard there is a way to do this. Any ideas?
- pivo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I prefer xterm from Apple's X11 server. It's not as pretty, but with a little tweaking it lets me use all the familiar Unix special keys.
By the way, Ctrl-P in Terminal.app invokes a print dialog? How useless, and how rude to emacs users.
oops, meant to comment on the item below :) - nufoto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This is an old feature you could have done this in Panther: http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20031120203213536&query=back%2Bground%2Bpicture%2Bin%2Bterminal
- chrisutley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Kind of cool, sure. Hidden feature, no.
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well it wasn't so hidden that I didn't have it working on Cheetah. (I think I had it set up on Public Beta too, but I don't remember for sure).
- shakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If he used Linux he wouldn't have to spend all his time using vi on remote servers. Kioslaves rock :)
Actually, doesn't fuse work on OS X? Why doesn't he just mount the remote file systems locally? As much as I love ssh it's very limiting to do development that way all the time. - msgyrd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Or the title bar of the window. The shell prompt isn't always visible though. Open up a tail or top command, any terminal editor like nano or vi, or a language/SQL interpreter, and your shell prompt isn't of much use.
Personally, I just color code my windows. - 02camaroRS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://code.google.com/p/macfuse/
google source code for MacFUSE and sshfs - posure, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Its stupid posts like this one that makes me wish I never bought a Mac, thereby being associated with this *****.
- ddn3d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can't see any advantages to that, what so ever. I used to use Linux on the desktop but OSX is so so so much better. I have so many systems with different apache/php/etc versions that mounting and testing the code locally would be stupid.
emacs > vi - cmer, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I also use iTerm, which I find really useful (especially the tabs), but its menus are confusing and it is somewhat unstable at times.
- group0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0System Preferences -> Keyboard & Mouse
Key Repeat Rate = Fast, Delay Until Repeat = Short - 02camaroRS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sure it's not hidden, but it's not something I'd even thought about. Very cool. Now I can be a pimp while I'm doing my coding homework. MacFUSE and sshfs can be used to mount remote drives directly to the desktop. It's super convenient, just make sure you are connected via ssh in terminal before you run sshfs.
- HunterTV, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4I want Mac OSX to make Liv easy.
- aclements, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I'll be impressed if anyone ever figures out volume control on a Mac from the command line. That would be useful for me.
- elvenseven, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Live sucks.
Get broadband. - mrsteveman1, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I swear, every other day someone is running around, frantic, telling people about something everyone else already knew about.
"i'm in ur live... messin up ur live choices"
I cast my vote, thats the best "im in ur" line ive ever seen, well integrated and hillarious :D - stevealford, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Because all the features that make life easier should be hidden!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2oh my gosh! background features! on an operating system! insane!!
