- Rolamoto, on 10/10/2007, -9/+30I only know one person that uses .Mac, and he's an apple fanboy
- locnguyen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Not only fix it, but lower the price to something more reasonable.
- godofpumpkins, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10oh my, such hate and flamebait :)
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10You don't say???
- bleonard, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8I used .Mac for a year after it was offered to me for $69 w/the purchase of my computer. I was enticed by the idea that I could easily sync my iMac and PowerBook. In the end I canceled because it sucked. iDisk is so slow and space-limited that its useless for backups. I'd rather keep external hard disks in a fireproof safe. Mail sync was nice, but IMAP already does that. Bookmark syncing was cool too, but I wound up using Firefox and the Foxmarks plug-in. The online calendar sucked. The address book was neat. But both of those were on my cell phone that worked with iSync.
- cloudyprison, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9It makes me chuckle to picture Jobs at a computer coding.
- bpapa, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9Ah cool, it's been awhile since I've gotten to block somebody.
- ButtonMonkey, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9As it stands, it's an inflated, underperforming suite of apps. Perhaps they could drive adoption by giving away these services.
- lordtyros, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7He doesn't believe in buttons, remember. He'd probably have to dictate his programs.
- _skin_, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6You have just dated yourself my friend.
- leontes, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6The most elegant solution would be to merge google services and dot mac. As the have a google founder on the board, it wouldn't be unthinkable.
- LordofChaosIori, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8This isn't Blues Clues...
- rebopper, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Yeah, everyone knows the OS is great. So many practical hotkeys and shortcuts; you almost never need the mouse.
- EnjoyFailure, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I will still not pay extra money for a service for which there are so many free (and better) options.
- nathanielfisher, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I'm excited to see an upgrade, but I do find .Mac useful already. It makes making a nice-looking photo slideshow very easy, and I rented out a place easily because I had a nice photo walkthrough that took very little effort. Syncing of Safari bookmarks and other info across computers, especially Keychain passwords, is great, and the webmail is excellent, with 5 aliases, checking of other email accounts, and .Mac mail works great with iPhone. Guess I'm a fanboy.
- PunkHop, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5"which have the distinction of being Apple's most hated product"
Did you mean Apple's *only* hated product?
It's really the only one that people legitimately dislike - saying "OS X sucks" or "iPods suck" is just anti-Apple people hating because they want to. - MackenzieArbour, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'm one of the biggest apple fanboys there are, and I can't even justify that purchase
- cybertron3, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I miss iTools.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6it was probably not steve, more likely some apple engineers. but i bet he told them to fix it, so i guess that counts...
- NeoRicen, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Well we've already seen the 'Back to My Mac' .mac features in Leopard, they were a pretty good improvement.
- CasadeMike, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4It's getting hard to say anything positive on Digg without starting a fanboy flame war - but - for the most part Apple does listen to its customers. I am sure that dot mac will be a more compelling offering when they announce it.
- orb_nsc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3When was Steve Jobs ever a coder? Aren't you thinking of Woz? Or has the Jobs Lovefest gone so far you now think he did everything to build Apple?
- coit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Hey, FTA, I read that Google offers 1GB of email storage for free... He really did his research there, didn't he.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3What? No stupid one-button mouse comment? No "ther's no gamez" lack of comprehension? You're slipping 7of7
- atbnet, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Do you mind? iMind.
- Schwa, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3What the Mac community needs is a ".Mac lite" that just includes sync services. More and more apps take advantage of syncing via .Mac, but there's a significant segment who already have email, web storage, and all the other "perks" that make it not worth the price.
- mikecpeck, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I do hope the service gets upgraded, but that has to be one of the worse written and researched articles I've seen make the front page... especially from wired.
- noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I don't think listening to customers means doing every single thing they ask of you.
- actionjackson, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2moose AND mooses...feels more like using a moose to operate your computer than a mouse...get it? i know...bad joke. if you have to explain it...it's not funny.
- TrainingName, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I looked at this, and for a second I thought it asked if Fake Steve Jobs fixed the Dot-Mac.
:O - stalefries, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Um, did you write "moose" on purpose?
- tubeblender, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I don't care what you write, I'm digging you up for that "B" movie reference every time I can.
- bobbyharmless, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3"1. Make Mail more like Gmail, ..."
" 2. Make iDisk similar to GDrive, ..."
"3. Allow iCal calendars to be edited ... like you can with Google Calendars."
"4. insist his buddy Eric Schmidt update Google Documents ... "
Just use Google already. - TheMongo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I especially liked the parts where he mentioned GMail's 1 GB of storage for free, or wanted it to match up to the completely fictitious GDrive with unlimited storage space. Could it come with a pony, too? I normally like Wired, but come on.
- Terr01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Well, arguably the truly hated products are no longer on the market or were never fiercely branded for that reason. Consider the Motorola ROKR, arguably a pre-iPhone foray. (Unpossible! The iPhone is totally revolutionary!!!111)
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1You can go on only if you start using "there" instead of "their"
- pyrates, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1And the reason why some people still use .mac is because it is easier to use. Doesn't matter how bad it is in what it offers. It was the same thing with some aol subscribers when dial up was the norm, they stuck with aol's higher dial up prices, because it was easier. And Apple knows this.
- MrIso, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1woohoo 10 gigs of storage on .mac now, yay!
More online storage for .Mac members
August 07, 2007
Your .Mac membership now comes with a lot more storage, at no additional cost. Full .Mac members now get 10 GB of combined iDisk and email storage, which you can allocate as you wish. Family Pack master accounts also get 10 GB, while Family Pack sub-accounts get 2.5 GB each. The data transfer limit has been raised to 100 GB per month for full... - kmac23, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2"This .Mac service is temporarily unavailable while we perform scheduled maintenance."
Word...they're totally upgrading...like right now...today. - NerdyNinja, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I happen to like the Mighty Mouse... for the first six months it's out of the box.
Also, I can't stand people who digg down for no apparent reason other than disagreeing with what you said. You can make a perfectly legitimate point, and if it even looks like it could possibly degrade someone's argument that coincides with a person's particular preferences, it gets dugg down. Digg used to be filled with logically minded people who were interested in what other people have to say on something, most likely with the goal of furthering their knowledge of whatever the topic is. Now it's a forum for flamewars and ego-boosting. It amazes me how people seemingly scroll down a page to see if something goes against what they believe, and instead of replying with their own argument, just hit the digg down button and move on to their next victim. Knowledge is something to be pursued, not censored, you close-minded *****. - MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Actually, he's an excellent representation of a troll. He makes stupid comments, really has nothing to add to any discussion, and then it's back to his cheeze doodles and fruit punch waiting for mom to call him for dinner.
- stalefries, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I don't know about you, but I don't think many people like the Mighty Mouse. Besides that, I agree.
- cloudyprison, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Witness the unbridled wrath of a Zealot! For Aiur..i mean, Apple right?
- pyrates, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1http://mozy.com/ for one, free backup up to 2 gb and it's compatible with OS X. How much backup do you get with .Mac? And of course their is googlemail, which you can check with any email client. Their is google calendar. Shall I go on?
- etandrib, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Well if you get it for the reduced rate of $59 a year it isn't that bad. I'm not willing to pony up money for it but a know quite a few who have since it started.
- PueSi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1What about the hockey puck mouse?
- in2deep, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1This guy...I tell ya!
- johnpaul191, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1it's a valid point. the suite was pretty awesome as a free service. i am wondering if the cross platform usability made them charge? at the time it offered a decent service, and there was no way to keep it for Mac users (in the thinking that by buying the hardware and OS you are getting this online service too).
why it became so expensive, and has hardly gotten any upgrades is beyond me. i always wonder if they plan it for the next OS revision and it keeps getting pulled for some last minute reason. maybe something good will happen today, or with the release of 10.5? - MrIso, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Plus you can now use a real domain with your .mac hosting
Using your personal web address with .Mac
August 07, 2007
You can now publish web sites directly to your own personal web address (or domain) with just one click. To do it, you’ll need a registered domain name that you control, along with iWeb ’08 and your .Mac membership. If you don’t already own a domain, you can buy one from the domain registrar of your choice (.Mac doesn’t sell domain names). Then... Read more -
