Hacker makes iPhone home screen scroll
tuaw.com — From "lg", the same guy who brought you Installer.app, comes this new iPhone hack that lets you load as many icons as you want onto your iPhone home screen. It's still a little buggy but I have 32 applications loaded onto my screen right now and I can just flick my way to the one I want, even if the one I want is that baffling Magenta

- lynx77, on 10/10/2007, -26/+2so people actually brought the iPhone then?
- AntBing, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18And they bought them too.
- willyg65, on 10/10/2007, -20/+6Ok. Switch the phone off. Put it down. Go outside. There's fresh air, people, and lots of fun things to do.
In 1 year you won't give a toss whether your screen scrolled or not. Trust me.- supermajic, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Dude, what are you doing right now?
- plbland, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20Says the man who spent the time to click on the story and submit a comment.
- AntBing, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20How do you know this story wasn't submitted by someone on his iphone sitting in the park?
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -4/+5I heard rumours that the SMS button won't show numbers of unread texts. Can anyone see if this is true?
- AtomB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yes it is true, I installed it and that is the only annoying thing I have found so far.
- sogo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4True, but I am sure this will be fixed in the next build.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Thanks for the info
- smxy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0This is fixed in the upcoming bug fix release. The label font will look better and the scrolling a bit smoother, too, I'm told.
- AtomB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yes it is true, I installed it and that is the only annoying thing I have found so far.
- CJinNC, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I keep loading 3rd party apps and then deleting them in 48 hours bc they are sub-par...someone help me understand if this will hose itself when the next Apple firmware update comes out?
- CJinNC, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Edit..ok I like it...anyone know what app will allow you to move the icons around or delete them? Like the "Field Test" and "Demo App" icons that appeared?
- AtomB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Finder app will let you delete the extra programs you don't want and rSBT lets you change the order
- badjoke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Also, iFuntastic can do that.
- smxy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Use rSBT.
- CJinNC, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Sweet. Thanks...I am adding apps like a madman now.

- rogerbly, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6this hack changed my life. Too many hacked apps without scrolling.
- bagofice, on 10/10/2007, -9/+0If I had an iPhone, I wouldn't do anything to change it..it's perfect. However, that wallpaper feature is cool. I'd wait for another release before I put it on my phone though.

- dheaddy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+20This is what will be unveiled by Jobs on Sept 5th, and will be introduced to a round of applause: "And Boom! I'm scrolling through my home screen, and it works just like magic"
- convergent, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Watch him make it seem like he reinvented scrolling.
- zeeky, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1...just like he invented ajax and web apps

- DOGPARTY, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8so awesome that apple doesn't stop this stuff
- Ibox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9why would they? every time something like this pops up everyone checks it out and " I wanna Iphone ssooooo bad" ... Its free advertising! all the other assholes don't get it.
- WiseWeasel, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Exactly, they get to have their cake and eat it too. The users get their random apps, driving demand, and Apple gets to 1) offer zero support to developers when undocumented APIs change randomly, and 2) avoid any nasty entanglements with AT&T over the nature of "approved" applications on their network.

- databoy, on 10/10/2007, -7/+0Dick Tracy calling Mars. Beware iPhone on the loose, iPhone on the loose. It does not compute. Chip implant needed. System going down in 60 seconds. Watch phone is better.
- saucercrab, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Does anyone know if you can customize the wallpaper?
- louiemantia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Your wallpaper matches the one used on the unlock screen.
- AtomB, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I wish you could turn that feature off, I don't like having a wallpaper behind the Icons.
- smxy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0That will probably be included when prefs are added soon. I've suggested to lg that he might separate the Wallpaper and Icon Background into two separate things, so you can have something different (including black) for either or both.
- xinli11, on 10/10/2007, -6/+1Ohh good, now we can make the iPhone home screen look like the windows start menu. On a more serious note, I've never understood apple's motivation behind putting so many icons on the home screen. Seems to me that since there are 4 primary functions to the iPhone: Phone, iPod, Web, Email, those should be big buttons on the home screen. Third party apps, on the other hand, should be relegated to a secondary menu. The iPhone home screen, in other words, just looks too busy and lacks focus. Granted, the four functions i mentioned are lined up at the bottom of the screen, but those icons are the same size as every other icon. They should be bigger and more prominently positioned on screen.
Ohh I know it's practically treason to criticize apple's design decisions, but that's my opinion and I"m sticking by it.- astrosmash, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Secondary menus? Sounds like the Windows Start Menu.
- badjoke, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1With the new release of iFuntastic, you can create a seperate page. I had two pages, the first with the standard screen, and the second for 3rd party apps. If you wanted, you could just have the 4 buttons on the first page, normal apps on the second (with those 4 buttons also) and another with 3rd party apps (with the 4 buttons.)
- DarthMartin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Nice one LG. Can't for the iPhone to launched in the UK at the end of the year, hopefully. Do hope that Apple take note and build this into the OS as a standard feature.
- BasharTeg, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3Yeah, but where are you going to find these 32 applications for the iPhone?
- badjoke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Installer.app has a lot of cool apps and games.
- smxy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Magenta's the best. :p
- badjoke, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Installer.app has a lot of cool apps and games.
- nnutter, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Buried because there was no link to download SummerBoard.
- smxy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0It's available in Installer.app. It's also available for Breezy/iBrickr, at http://pxl.ibrickr.com
- JakeFields, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Apple is loving this underground hype, hopefully they bring something new to the table on Sept. 5th .
- locojones, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1Way to go guys! Hack another 100 things like this into it and the iPhone might actually be able to do what other real smartphones do right out of the box!
