I'm an Apple user and I love my machine, but let's face it, it's really a matter of personal preference. All of this BS back and forth is senseless. Yeah, Apple makes a great OS and some fine machines, but I've seen Windows boxes that were absolutely incredible (ask a big gamer what they've got under the hood - impressive no matter which you actually prefer).
Both have their strong points (some of which have kept Apple alive in a primarily Windows world).
I think the world is big enough for more than one OS - relax people, relax! - zakharm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Maxxuss site is down :(

If I were this guy I'd watch out for the Fascist Apple Strike Force will descend upon you like PETA at an outdoor barbecue.
- dankers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just wanna use Final Cut Pro; ever since I got hooked on it in high school I have always wanted to get back into it. Honestly, I don't think I would pay for Max OS.
- Cander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why didnt you just make an article on your impressions on OSX 10.4.4 without mention of the hacked instead of putting a huge Apple bullseye on your ass?
- lagerbottom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not a very good article. He basically says "I installed it".
I am curious if the ethernet works on these hack versions. - jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I want to install it on my PC, I want to install it on my PC. As long as it is 100% working, if not, then I'll just use my PowerBook.

I wonder how it compares side-by-side with apple hardware (powermac / imac / macbook / ETC.).
Very interesting none the less. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0^
bingo. Apples current hardware doesn't match the speeds i can get out of some home made PCs at a fraction of the price - nogami, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1"If 10.4.4 is stable running on hardware that Apple never intended it to be running on, just imagine what it runs like on their hardware."
Slower? - archer75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'll wait until there is a native install disk available. I don't want to install 10.4.3, apply all the damn patches to 10.4.4 and then install that.
- NippleNutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Shame all the sites are going down. www.Win2OSX.net had instrauctions on how to mod the 10.4.4 DVD with the patches so you didnt need 10.4.3 but thats been down since last thrusday.
- albrad84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think this summer when I do some upgrades to my pc, I'm gonna make sure that all my new parts are osx86-friendly... (SSE3, Driver Support, etc.)
I can't wait... - mrmorden76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0At current Apple in the only company that could end Microsoft’s monopoly. Having Apple release Its OS for the PC would only benefit both companies not to mention the consumer. Its OS would force Windows to take a long hard look at it self the same way Fire Fox made them redesign internet explorer.
- Lifelogger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very poor article and so no digg. Where are the screenshot? Where is the overall user experience with apps? This review doesn't bring anything new.
- elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Enjoy PC users! Maybe you'll understand a little more about Apple zealotry.
- NobleRocket, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Perhaps someone can answer this possibly ignorant question. Why can't/won't Apple release a version of OSX that will run on any windows machine but only license it to individuals not other companies? That way all the modders out there who probably wouldn't buy an Apple machine might buy an Apple OS to run on their custom machine. I know they want you to buy apple hardware but it seems like an EASY way to spread their OS.
- ranjur, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nice to see CM50's name pop up. I was an avid listener of his podcast, Listen and Game. I messed around with a developer copy of OSx86 but i had driver issues with my asus boards. Perhaps this time around that won't be a factor, thanks to the patches. +DIGG for timely story.
- NetSliderX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Licensing the Mac OS would open Apple to a world of ::gulp:: actual competition. OSX is great but I highly doubt it could come close to winning over those that (for some reason ..) love their Windows.
- asdren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Why can't/won't Apple release a version of OSX that will run on any windows machine but only license it to individuals not other companies?"
on a minor note - currently they only have to support a handful of hardware configurations. - cualexander, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Everyone seems to be missing the huge point of Apple Computer in general. Their whole marketing concept works on the total package experience. Does anyone recall that iPod wasn't even released for Windows when it first came out?
Releasing OS X for Windows would wreak havoc with Apple's core philosophy. Every driver for hardware has to get submitted to Apple and make sure it works well with OS X. There is no monkeying around with all this plug and "pray" stuff on Apple computers. On Apple, Plug and Play is Plug and Play. Even Bluetooth on Windows is still sketchy at times at best.
An Apple computer is the entire sum of its parts. OS X is the core part granted, but everything in the system is engineered to work almost flawlessly together. Which is why you can piece meal an Apple Computer. Apple doesn't want you to do this.
Just like Apple doesn't want you to install OS X on a non Apple computer. To do so would be to go against the core philosophy that is Apple.
Microsoft doesn't make the PCs, just the software. While on Microsoft you have a huge array of hardware and software options, it doesn't necessarily just work.
Apple just works. Its efficient, smooth, elegant. Its almost more about image than technology.
Is iPod the most technologically superior mp3 player? Nope, there are ones that far surpass it. But its the end design that is the factor at play. It just works.
And no, I'm not an Apple fanboy. I run windows machines, because there is just some software that does not transfer over to Apple. Although if I were a simple user, I would definitely switch - nathos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Why can't/won't Apple release a version of OSX that will run on any windows machine but only license it to individuals not other companies?"
Because development of the Mac OS is subsidized by the sale of Apple's hardware. If Apple ever did decide to go this route, it would surely cost far more than the $129 upgrade that Mac owners pay.
Apple's a business - a big business. They're already done the projections and calculations. If it was the right business decision to sell Mac OS to PC users, they would have done it already. - mrmorden76, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If apple whould release a copy of there OS that would run on PC (with out being hacked ) I whould sell out the cash to buy it. just to see how it runs. I think a lot a DYI would even the not so tech savy ones
- cavemonkey50, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Thanks tcgtony for upholding the Mac flame tradition of Digg. ;-)
- SystemLord, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Yawn! On top of having SS3 now you need 10.4.3 installed and a new drive. For what I ask you? I partinioned my hd and had Ubuntu running in half an hour including adding all the fixes for the Intel 915G chipset. Linux + the Apps I need + the beauty and simplicity of Gnome 2.14 with far less lawsuits.
- djork, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I can't stand shameless blog self-promotion.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I just want a MacBook that's all. Signing off...
- shazeubaa, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0gittamac.
- tcgtony, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0I think Mac just really sucks. Hackers like you should be sued for pirating software that Apple produced with its own hard work. YOU SUCK!!!!
