- mwcrowley, on 10/10/2007, -9/+199That's nothing, right now I'm building myself a clone of Steve Jobs, that way I get all the new toys months before they're out. Beat that!
- eternal, on 10/10/2007, -4/+174The title is misleading. How can the iPhone he made be better if it doesn't even work? In fact, the only reason it is stated as better is because of its aluminum back to the phone.
- TheCount, on 10/10/2007, -1/+77Apparently he didn't get the memo that Cingular is now AT&T
- historyfool24, on 10/10/2007, -5/+63now watch as hopeless American tourists buy these in Japan and then bring to stateside Apple store when they can not connect to AT&T
- jarek91, on 10/10/2007, -4/+58So exactly how is a non-working model better than the real thing?...even if you hate the iPhone, a model is worthless...
buried as inaccurate - nunzi, on 10/10/2007, -2/+34Reading the title and description, I actually thought he took the time to figure out how the insides work, and emulate that. *That* would be impressive. Building a visual prototype is nothing special or difficult.
Buried for being misleading and lame. - dbz253, on 10/10/2007, -3/+34sorry to rape this comment, but please, stop calling it the "JesusPhone"
- UPGR4Y3DD, on 10/10/2007, -6/+36He should sell it to some sucka for $500.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -6/+34eeu, I don't want to know what you're going to do with that thing...
- OKeric, on 05/12/2008, -6/+26Isn't the back of the iPhone made out of plastic so that the radio waves can get through better? He'll end up putting that on his real iPhone and be like, wtf?
- lordtyros, on 10/10/2007, -2/+21ebay...
- FBMGriever, on 10/10/2007, -5/+24Regardless of it working or not, I am still extremely impressed with his craftsmanship. I couldn't do anything nearly this good. This would definitely be a fun project to make your own and possibly include a MAKE chip and work on your own "iPhone". Dugg.
- Walker2323, on 10/10/2007, -4/+22Title should be "Friendless Virgin Further Ensures He Will Never See Female Genitalia"
- rblancarte, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15I was thinking the same thing. They said "Sure it doesn't work, but it's exactly like the real thing. In fact, it's even better." WHAT?!?! If it doesn't make phone calls, it isn't even a phone. Does that mean it is just an i ?
- tippmann1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14no it makes it an iPhony
that was my pun for the day, I hope you liked it - russelbutt, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14"Sure it doesn't work, but it's exactly like the real thing. In fact, it's even better."
no you moron.. it would be better if it actually worked..
buried under "gizmodo is run by a bunch of idiots" - MBHoy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14"Does this phone work?"
It's full of ***** wood, what do you think? - Tagaiz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12well, are you?
- qwisp, on 10/10/2007, -11/+22It doesn't crash.
- tyns, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9are you seriously asking this question when the first picture on the site for the slideshow has a chunk of wood as the guts?
- OutThisLife, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9So some guy has some free time to spare and he's a loser.
If that's the case, why're you on Digg? ***** loser. - biff198, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9So let me get this straight... The Japanese are now envious of American technology? When did this happen!?
- meez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Homophobe.
- b04155, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8And just like the real Cingular/AT&T service, you get 5 bars with no reception.
- reconflux, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8NOT REALISTIC! It show Cingular reception with full bars!
- BLish, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5are you going to include the inevitable black turtleneck sweater too?
- tech42er, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Your World. Delivered. To the NSA.
- Fateftw, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5It would never be as classy as the P-P-P-Powerbook, though.
- nogami, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6I was sort of wonder why he'd brand it with cingular on the display. I mean, he's living in Japan where they actually have fast wireless data services and wireless capabilities that aren't even on the horizon in North America. Going from a Japanese cell phone service to a North American service would be like going back to 300 baud modems...
- veracon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5i-i-i-iPhone, anyone?
(Likely that no one gets that.) - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5RTFA.... (no)
- ltkerr0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Well my butt is full of gerbils and it works fine.
- ltkerr0r, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Jesus Christ turned water into wine. Jesus Diaz turned wood into an iPhone.
- rouslan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3What's the big deal?
I thought he actually ordered the parts/modules, built the PCBs, and reverse-engineered an iPhone to get the code. If you think an aluminum is that much better, try using 3mm steel. Plus it's not "from scratch"-that would mean he ordered every single tiny SMD part and built the case from bulk sheet metal and plastic.
Buried as inaccurate. - biff198, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5If you wanted your comment to get diggs, you should have used the phrase "Buried for Inaccuracy"...
- shawnz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3A steve jobs robot clone is only half a steve jobs robot clone without the black robot clone turtleneck sweater.
- cyclox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3have you been in a furniture store and seen the fake plastic computers that don't work? Well this guy has a future in that market.
- GreenAlien, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2AFAIK, most of the back is made of metal apart from the bottom fifth of the phone which is made out of plastic. That's where the antenna is.
- dimplemonkey, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2now why did the word "desperation" pop into my head?
- shawnz, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4because they're about equally as functional, while this costs much less.
- wenomspitta, on 10/10/2007, -5/+7dont the japanese have had phones thats better than iPhone for years now?
- unrealJEDI, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2agreed...
- techmaster7b, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You see this apple supporters? This is what the rest of the world sees when you buy an apple product. A featureless piece of overpriced crap. As a matter of fact, this almost has more features than an ipod. This guy could sell these non-working, for lets say $400, put the apple logo on it, and he could make millions off of the sheeple.
- LavosPhoenix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Buried for violating rules 1 and 2.
- speedyrev, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You can buy one of those on the street corner. Look for the guy selling the Rollodex watches.
- TheBlindGuy, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2He should totally buy a real one, then replace it with this and return it to the apple store. Suck it Steve Jobs!
- cevil203, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2its a piece of wood....you could play ping pong with this. not better than the real thing.
- shawnz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2EVERYTHING ***** BLENDS
- spargett, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Amen, errr... yeah.
- itemforty, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yes, they have.
