- lava, on 01/15/2008, -2/+13When are Android phones going to come out? It's cool that they're improving the iPhone, but I'm holding out for one of those.
- sajnikanth, on 01/15/2008, -1/+11OK Google, that's sweet. When are we getting the Android Phone?
- ausfahrt, on 01/15/2008, -0/+6Notice the Rogers provider in the screen cap. Unlocked phone or roaming?
- contractcentral, on 01/15/2008, -4/+9FTA: Just in time for MacWorld, Google has announced sizeable improvements to it's mobile applications for Apple's iPhone. Applications that have been updated include Google Reader, Calendar, Gmail, iGoogle, Search, and Picasa.
Google aims to make the mobile experience slicker and usable for iPhone users by better utilizing the iPhone's touch screen. Users can expect to see:
* A quicker Gmail: you no longer have to hit refresh to see when news messages arrive. Also, auto-complete makes typing in address quicker.
* Speedier Calendar: now look at month view and be able to see your entire month's activities at quick glance
* Default tabs can be customized: change and place your tabs on your iGoogle page. Also, single sign on for Google unlocks all google apps with one entry of your username and password
* iGoogle now shows your iGoogle Gadets. Chose from weather, stocks, newsfeeds, clocks, and many more.
If you have an iPhone, all these improvements can be seen by heading over to google.com on your mobile browser.
We're glad to see Google embrace the mobile market in this way. With great features such as these, more people will look at cell phones as a natural extension to their online lives. - Karmavs, on 01/15/2008, -0/+4It does. It's called IMAP
- inactive, on 01/15/2008, -0/+4You do know that the iPhone has a native app that works with Google Mail, right? It just takes a couple settings to configure and you're good to go.
- inactive, on 01/15/2008, -0/+4NOTE: The picture they're showing is grossly outdated and the new interface looks totally different. There are solid navy blue tabs at the top now, etc.
- Weaselboy, on 01/15/2008, -0/+4This update was released yesterday.
- Furlong, on 01/15/2008, -0/+4you mean google
- moliver000, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3You bought a $600 phone that didn't do what you needed it to do?
- jayfehr, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3IMAP or POP, they both work very well
- CraigJ, on 01/15/2008, -0/+3Wow. Picasa is freaking sweet on the iPhone...
- Karmavs, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2Why would Microsoft make a custom Live interface for the iPhone?
- inactive, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2The picture is wrong. The picture shows the update that happened a month or more ago. They updated again and it looks totally different than the picture that is shown.
- jordanrobbins, on 01/15/2008, -2/+4Apple was the last on on this train. PDA phones by palm and Microsoft have been around forever.
- inactive, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2But they're showing the update that happened a month ago. Their picture is wrong and outdated.
- bpeacock22, on 01/16/2008, -0/+2Google calendar on this new interface is broken. Many users (including me) are reporting the inability to see multiple, colored schedules; there is no add or edit events; and when you try to navigate and bookmark the old version that worked, it just goes back to the new, broken one.
- ThunkDifferent, on 01/15/2008, -0/+2yesterday's news...
- beerbarron, on 01/15/2008, -0/+1Its a nice interface, but I found it hard to tick the radio boxes, and also the calendar needs to allow for adding and deleting of events! Otherwise, its a really nice step forwards, hope they allow for offline use someday
- yokes, on 01/15/2008, -1/+2Picasa for the Mac?
- lewhich, on 01/15/2008, -2/+3If I could only get my iPhone to work with T-Mobile.
- stevan2002, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1I hope google doesn't make mistakes like this! http://digg.com/comedy/GOOGLE_VIDEO_WTF_NSFW
- slambert90, on 01/15/2008, -1/+2**Fanboy alert! Fanboy alert!**
And I think you mean, "the geniuses at Google" - ftyuv, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1For now, you can get to the old calendar by clicking on "Google Mobile" from the calendar tab, then clicking on the calendar icon -- the link to that is still the old version. (I don't have access to my iPod Model T right now, so I'm writing this from memory -- but I think that's how it is.)
- aussieNickuss, on 01/15/2008, -1/+2"Reply to this comment"??
- furlopro27, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1Yeah, and in the process completely messed up the calendar feature. Please let me add events and see multiple calendars again Google.
- 80hd, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1Where were we?
Hey this is Much better! - betobeto, on 01/15/2008, -1/+2Am I the only one who liked the old tabs better? That navy blue looks nothing but hideous to me.
- 80hd, on 01/16/2008, -0/+1If Apple and Google wanted to be gods of organization they would finally just let the iPhone sync W/ google calender on the road
- wretcheddawn, on 01/16/2008, -0/+0Does this actually have anything to do with the iPhone, there are after all, other phones that have a web browser...
- MQuart, on 01/15/2008, -4/+1Wish it worked within the Mail client and you didn't have to go to Safari.
- orangefly, on 01/15/2008, -5/+1i meant the google apps on the iphone....
- slambert90, on 01/15/2008, -6/+0This happened like a month ago
- orangefly, on 01/15/2008, -7/+1i can't wait to see microsofts lame attempt to copy this....
- HarryWatson00, on 01/15/2008, -7/+0this is actually going to be a great upgrade for me I have the Iphone and my works email is through gmail. I almost got rid of the phone because it didn't have the right email capabilities...another problem solved by the geniouses at apple.
- ThinkBox, on 01/15/2008, -10/+3That is an OS for a phone... not a phone...
