- OSJunky, on 04/15/2009, -0/+3this story is 12 days old.?
- j4200, on 04/15/2009, -0/+3Try being around since before a search engine even showed up at all. We called them meta crawlers back then.
- SteveMax, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2"boldly resisting authority or an opposing force" longer than Live has?
Or did you mean "definitely"? - nbeighley, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2They mentioned iPhone one time...does this really belong in the "Apple" category or was it just put there to get dugg?
- mrBitch, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2...Or any other phone that includes a web browser capable of rendering HTML 5.
- ToastPop, on 04/17/2009, -1/+3This article is from earlier this month, if you have an iPhone or Android visit Gmail in your browser and you can use this right now.
- j4200, on 04/15/2009, -0/+23 paragraphs to say update your shortcuts. Caarrraamellllo
- j4200, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2I've been using it for almost 2 weeks
- mrBitch, on 04/15/2009, -1/+2Zing!
- IllBeBack, on 04/15/2009, -2/+3But will this Google application also be in beta five years down the line?
- Nosyn, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1You feel five years old?
- Dankoozy, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1Most phones have a perfectly good email / contacts, chat client. no need for any of this inefficient bandwidth-eating web based crap.
- redfan, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1Selling wafers?
- Paulish, on 04/15/2009, -1/+2*****, it has been 5 years? Now I feel old.
- N01SE, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1A video being choppy could be due to many other things besides the player or encoding used, like your connection speed, your ISP's connection speed, other apps on your computer using bandwidth, etc.
HTML 5 already supports a video tag. It can use any codec supported by the browser/OS, but lots of developers are asking for a standardized codec for interoperability. - j4200, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1You're doing it wrong
- RyomaNagare, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1 what is the URL for the new layout? I've tried accessing it from my iPhone with no luck, I keep getting the regular mobile layout.
I tried deleting my cache and cookies. - dagamer34, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1I have a 2.16 Ghz Core 2 Duo in my MacBook Pro with 3GB RAM on a 12/2Mbit Comcast internet connection. Plus, I wait for the video to load.
I doubt it's my end... - j4200, on 04/15/2009, -1/+2Gmail has had a mobile interface probably the longest. I can't say for certain but defiantly longer than live has. This is the new one that sets the bar for all others. Again.
Also live sucks. Slow, buggy, ugly, and covered in far more ad's then gmail. Need more reasons? Gmail is the leader of the pack. Look at all the 1gb inbox's and realize that was because of Google 5 years ago making the change. - lorenzopolidori, on 05/17/2009, -0/+0Imagine if you could build apps that ran across all these phones. I think this is the ultimate mobile web solution.
For whoever is interested in mobile web, look at that: http://www.mwmobileweb.com/blog/blogarticle.aspx?i ... - zephc, on 04/15/2009, -1/+1What's Jeff Goldblum doing in that second pic?
- u2jazz, on 04/15/2009, -0/+0Could you please tell me how to add a label to an e-mail then in gmail mobile on the iPhone? I can't seem to find it.
- j4200, on 04/15/2009, -1/+1Who cares. It's because of google that we can expect beta products to actually be useful and work now. They've watered down the meaning of the tag so much that people don't realize it's for testing purposes only. Other large companies have taken the same stride since google's appearance on the scene. Dare I bring up the Windows 7 beta?
- j4200, on 04/15/2009, -1/+1Choppy video always happens for me on sucky computers. HAHAHA sucker!
Youtube HD is my default on 3yr old pc and works flawless. It's not the flash that's eating performance. its the HD video flash is trying to play. - erwin, on 04/18/2009, -0/+0HTML Standards vs Browsers, round 2 (or 3?). Will there be industry synchronization of standards compliance in the Mobile space? Mostly likely not: Apple will do it's own thing, just like Microsoft did when it had a PC monopoly.
- dagamer34, on 04/15/2009, -2/+1We REALLY need a pure HTML video tag. Flash is horrid for computer performance. Just ask anyone who tries to view a YouTube HD video! Choppy as hell!
- u2jazz, on 04/15/2009, -2/+1It still won't let you label e-mails. That makes it worthless to me.
- dvsbastard, on 04/15/2009, -5/+3Awesome news... the current gmail mobile version is terrible, and has very limited functionality (although I still use it as it is extremely lightweight)... So for me this is a very welcome addition!
- j4200, on 04/15/2009, -3/+1Really? The old one was so horrible that a new one was needed so desperatly that it's FINALLY here? And where was all the hype leading up to this exclamatory finish? Was it during the last two weeks that the new interface has been out already?
Story is old. Buried. - internetisscary, on 04/14/2009, -4/+1finally!
- N01SE, on 04/15/2009, -3/+0Sucks because? You almost had a complete thought there, but your head must have started hurting or something, so you gave up, either that or your mom called you down for dinner.
- notyourbroom, on 04/15/2009, -5/+1Hey, iPhone/iPod users: If you've had problems with the new versions that just went live, this story might help you.
When the new version of the online Google services came out, it broke all of the Google-related home screen shortcuts on my iPod. Normally, if a page has already been opened in Safari, hitting its home screen shortcut just shifts the browser's focus to that tab; after the updates, though, each time I hit the shortcut, it would open the page in a completely new tab. This chewed through memory incredibly fast and would often crash Safari because I would forget to manually close each abandoned gmail/gcal tab.
I was able to fix the issue by deleting all of my old shortcuts and re-making them from scratch, so presumably the problem was caused by an address redirect- nothing that couldn't be fixed on my end. Still, I hope Google is more careful in the future not to break stuff like this. - inactive, on 04/14/2009, -12/+2I have been able to do this with Live Hotmail on Windows Mobile IE and other mobile browsers for I think
oh forever
