- ABadPerson, on 04/23/2008, -3/+1nutz is right, gold plating on plastic is iffy. @_@
- tjniels, on 07/09/2008, -0/+0Yes, but the Macbook Air is not plastic.
- xatx2, on 04/23/2008, -7/+2you can't polish a turd
- AlgnPelotudo, on 04/23/2008, -2/+5yes, you can, it's called aero glass
- ABadPerson, on 04/23/2008, -3/+1nutz is right, gold plating on plastic is iffy. @_@
- 3asabi, on 04/23/2008, -2/+7Interesting - I guess it is a show case. Do you need body guards? Or is anyone willing to put it through the airport screening machines..
- Qtip42, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4I've always wondered what would happen taking that through the airport. I'll give it a shot and let you know how it goes.
- eVolutionVI, on 04/23/2008, -10/+52That's the most gawd awful looking mac ever. I wouldn't even want to be seen using that... dead or alive.
- crump199, on 04/23/2008, -0/+12That's probably a good idea, you'd probably get mugged if you were seen with that... dead or alive.
- lukas88, on 04/23/2008, -2/+6It would look so much better with a matte look instead of shiny. Think of all the fingerprints and smudges. Ugh. But even a matte look wouldn't keep you from looking like a giant turd using one of these.
- deltaandroid, on 04/23/2008, -2/+2What state of vanity is the world in when, we wouldnt want to be seen using a certain type of laptop, i mean as long as its no pink/glow in the dark, its a pc, not a shirt or hat.
- timissimit, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4well if you make the point that we shouldn't be worried about vanity, whats wrong with it being pink/glow in the dark?
- BlueSkyfish, on 04/23/2008, -0/+7You're obviously not a pimp.
- funknjunk, on 04/23/2008, -3/+3Wow this is the epitome of douchebaggery

- serif69, on 04/23/2008, -1/+103Somewhere in Dubai, an order has been placed for 10,000 of these.
- threemagic, on 04/23/2008, -2/+4Do they have a laptop for the Dubai low income plan now?
- dafragsta, on 04/23/2008, -0/+9Yeah, an order placed from Haliburton's new headquarters.
- NSResponder, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1Dubai or Las Vegas.

- gradivus, on 04/23/2008, -3/+164So its about $20 more than a regular Macbook Air?
- nitesoulja, on 04/23/2008, -3/+44no its $20 less
- shondell, on 04/23/2008, -3/+10you so funny.
- InnerRayg, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3Don't forget about tax too.
- slowmo, on 04/23/2008, -3/+13Yes, and the gold plating is far superior to the aluminum MacBook at shielding wifi connections. Nothing is more frustrating then when your $2500 aluminum MacBook Pro has one bar of connectivity and your friend (who is sitting RIGHT next to you) has full bars on their $1500 plastic MacBook.
- threemagic, on 04/23/2008, -0/+9do the firmware upgrade.

- ferrariman60, on 04/23/2008, -3/+19Sounds like the non-gold plated variety, doesn't it?
- AkatsukiNoTobi, on 04/23/2008, -1/+6Doesn't that apply to all Mac users? I joke, I joke.......
- fr0ng, on 04/23/2008, -4/+33Rappers and their laptops...
- Persian5Life, on 04/23/2008, -3/+9i don't think 50'cent even knows how to use a computer.

- darrin, on 04/23/2008, -2/+1I would dare say: fugly.
- Syphon8, on 04/23/2008, -20/+104Such a waste of money.
Who would ever buy a Macbook Air?- HolyMan28, on 04/23/2008, -15/+3I don't know.. since Mac's destroy windows and everything..
- Rivetgeek, on 04/23/2008, -5/+4...um not so much. Find me one enterprise level business that uses macs outside the graphics department. Macs have their place. An enterprise workstation isn't, and will never be, it.
- philgmo, on 04/23/2008, -2/+101997 called, they want their OS war argument back.
- gudnbluts, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1Not if you open them first.
- Rivetgeek, on 04/23/2008, -5/+4...um not so much. Find me one enterprise level business that uses macs outside the graphics department. Macs have their place. An enterprise workstation isn't, and will never be, it.
- Pyehole, on 04/23/2008, -14/+27My first Mac is/was the MacBook Air. It's the finest piece of computing hardware I've ever owned. I'm sure I'll get dugg down beyond belief for saying so as people out there seem to have a serious hate-on for the Air, but whatever, I stand by my comment.
- solidus636, on 04/23/2008, -5/+9It's not that the Air isn't 'the finest piece of computing hardware'(well...it isn't...but that's besides the point..), it's that it costs WAY too much for what it is...and does less than similar machines that are even cheaper. It doesn't have a DVD drive, and the USB ports are really messed up. I'm for Macs as much as I am for Windows....and If I were to buy a Mac, I'd definitely go for the Macbook. It's only a little thicker, but it's a lot faster than the Air, and does a lot more.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to get dugg down for this...but it's true.... the Macbook Air isn't worth it.- Pyehole, on 04/23/2008, -4/+4If you need to have the DVD drive with you all the time, yeah, the Air is a poor choice. I use mine in a variety of capacities none of which need a DVD drive. As for price; ok, the argument can be made (I balked at the price of the flash drive, I'll let somebody else pay bleeding edge prices on that tech). But the way I looked at it, I was paying the premium for the industrial design. After using it for awhile now, I feel like I got my money's worth. If I were more price conscious, it is entirely possible that I would not have been willing to pay a premium for it.
- argonplatypus, on 04/23/2008, -7/+5I think it is great that Apple has tricked you into paying more for fewer features, and liking it.
- AustinMeoang, on 04/23/2008, -2/+1but...it's smaller!
- Musicmonkey34, on 04/23/2008, -1/+8actually, i think its more accurate to say that apple has turned design into a feature.
- Pyehole, on 04/23/2008, -2/+3Bingo!
- rootbeerinacan, on 04/23/2008, -1/+9Different people need different things.
My mom owns her own company and all she needs is Word/Excel, Web browsing, iTunes and Mail. She loves the size as she can carry it pretty much anywhere, but I'd never buy it as I **need** more power for Audio/Video. This is the bottom line: The MacBook Air is a great product, but it won't work for everyone.- triskele, on 04/23/2008, -2/+1In that case your mom could've saved a lot of money and bought a regular Macbook, not to mention additional functionality should she need more out of it in the future.
- diggingaround, on 04/23/2008, -5/+3It's understandable to be so exited about your very first computer... wait to see how happy you'll be when you get a real computer on day...
- Pyehole, on 04/23/2008, -1/+4Yeah. Whatever dude. I'm a game developer, I live and die by my PC. The Air is a specialized tool that serves a specific purpose and does it beautifully. Grow up and join the real world. Pissing matches about who's computer brand is better than who's is playground behavior. Why don't you grow up and join the rest of the adults.

- BryanJK, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4for people that want an extremely thin laptop? I personally love it for that reason, it's just an OCD of mine to have thin things. Instead of books, I have an ebook reader. Is it necessary? no
- InnerRayg, on 04/23/2008, -1/+2Shame your girlfriend doesn't have the same obsession.
Had to be said, damn me to hell now. - Khain, on 04/23/2008, -3/+1Lenovo has a thinner laptop, for less, and it has an optical drive.
- rootbeerinacan, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3Yeah but its not Apple, and that's partly the reason of its success. And a damn good reason I may add. You can go ahead and get the Lenovo, but I can't stand Windows therefore, I would get the MBA if it wasn't for (see my above comment)
- Khain, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1Actually im guilty of buying apple just because its apple. Im not saying apple sucks, just that if you're going on the basis of "thin" lenovo has one thinner. I bought an ipod touch just because it was apple :( lol
- InnerRayg, on 04/23/2008, -1/+2Shame your girlfriend doesn't have the same obsession.
- johndisko, on 04/23/2008, -1/+1Paris Hilton.

- pell, on 04/23/2008, -1/+6What's with the logo on the inside below the screen. This really expensive GOLD case and this crappy multiline system font with dafont.com style script font logo. Otherwise interesting.
- Qtip42, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1You're more than welcome to design a better one. The engraving was a bit rushed. Go to our contact page, submit something better and I'll use it.
- r2builder, on 04/23/2008, -1/+2Hire a designer to do a proper job. Don't rely on hand-outs.

- saxreturns, on 04/23/2008, -1/+13This redefines the word 'gaudy'.
- 1b2a, on 04/23/2008, -1/+1No, this is common.
- thedragon4453, on 04/23/2008, -4/+42In case you don't feel like a big enough douche bag?
- Blacksheep34, on 04/23/2008, -19/+9A pig with lipstick is still a pig...All the gold on it and in it and it still an apple POS
- threemagic, on 04/23/2008, -1/+6and a troll with an irrational hatred of an inanimate object is still a troll
- KloroFormd, on 04/23/2008, -14/+10Nice thinking! Everyone knows gold and sapphires will increase the number of USB ports on this piece of *****!
- Pyehole, on 04/23/2008, -3/+4If you need a computer with more than 1 USB port, buy one with more than one. The last laptop I owned had 2 USB ports but I can think of a handful of instances where I used both of them at the same time. Even then, one was an MP3 player and if it was really all that important I could have remedied the problem by using a hub. I do own an Air (my first Mac), the only thing I've ever had a need to use the USB port for is the super drive. Given how I use the Air, it is far more important to me to have the lightest and slimmest form factor I can get. And that is exactly what the Air delivers.
- pathy, on 04/23/2008, -3/+5Yes! And don't you dare point out the faults in products!
- Joe11Blue, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2Yes, and you are a moron. Vote with your money, and buy what fills your needs.
- Pyehole, on 04/23/2008, -3/+2It's not a fault in my opinion. If you need a computer with more than one USB port and you bought an Air, then the fault is with you.
- pathy, on 04/23/2008, -3/+5Yes! And don't you dare point out the faults in products!
- rootbeerinacan, on 04/23/2008, -1/+5Dude, just ***** off serisously. If you don't like it, DON'T BUY IT!

- Persian5Life, on 04/23/2008, -1/+28no

- Persian5Life, on 04/23/2008, -1/+16we all know that a gold plated mac book air is so much better with regards to performance as a non gold plated mac book air. this product is for people that have more moeny then brains.
- Nayson, on 04/23/2008, -1/+5Is it the gold plating is for people who have more money than brains, or the Macbook Air? (and yes, the obvious answer is "both")
- ZeRux, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2Just like normal MacBook Air then.
- ferrariboy430, on 04/23/2008, -1/+7now where did i put my maching gold grills?
- jdubsta235, on 04/23/2008, -2/+41defeats the purpose of the air part right? TOO HEAVY!
- ANT1138, on 04/23/2008, -2/+3for that, price they could've bought an insanely pimped out gaming laptop, and it would've weighed a lot less. i hate people who spend money on ***** like this.
- catalysis, on 04/23/2008, -1/+4It's not solid gold
- thebigbradwolf, on 04/23/2008, -2/+3doesn't that like double the weight?
- boydbme, on 04/23/2008, -2/+1seriously? I mean c'mon.. if you've got so much money you're gold plating your macbook air... i dunno. I jut feel like there are more productive hobbies out there like philanthropy or something.
and I think it's ugly- InnerRayg, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2No, frankly gold-plating everything is about as high-up as it gets when it comes to rich hobbies.
- jimthenglishman, on 04/23/2008, -1/+18made popular right after the bamboo covered dell…
- mrallen86, on 04/23/2008, -0/+8I hear some company in China is developing one made out of lead.

- Locke23, on 04/23/2008, -1/+1No.. really,... it is.
- mst3kcrow, on 04/23/2008, -1/+6Must be nice to have that much cash to put down the *****.
- threemagic, on 04/23/2008, -1/+3Did you say that for every gold plated chess set, monopoly board, or baby boots you've ever seen?
Hell my mom gold plated by college diploma...- mst3kcrow, on 04/23/2008, -1/+1Yes, gold plating something unless it's as a means of utility is solely to "make it pretty". Why wouldn't baby boots be bronzed instead?
- threemagic, on 04/23/2008, -1/+3Did you say that for every gold plated chess set, monopoly board, or baby boots you've ever seen?
- xOKxWhy, on 04/23/2008, -4/+47That's a sweet looking paperweight.
- shoveitfatty, on 04/23/2008, -3/+7Why?
- crump199, on 04/23/2008, -2/+2Why not?
- shoveitfatty, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3So I dont have to lay out a microfiber cloth every time I set my laptop down.
- crump199, on 04/23/2008, -2/+2Why not?
- 1b2a, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4I would prefer a cutting board of equal dimensions.
- doubbleh15, on 04/23/2008, -3/+1Hopefully i won't get team killed if i play WoW on it.

- rhino_rampant, on 04/23/2008, -0/+4See, finally a geek mod that makes sense! You wouldn't gold-plate laptops that weren't light enough to hang around your neck!

- kirakun, on 04/23/2008, -0/+3Does the WiFi still work? ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faraday_cage
- chaon93, on 04/23/2008, -0/+0it might reduce its power but not my much, a wifi signal can go though 1/32 inch of steel and keep going, gold plating in incredibly thin, generally speaking, higher frequencies go though conductive materials more easily because it reduces the Faraday effect
- DeFex, on 04/23/2008, -0/+9Smug, meet bling.
- Harabeck, on 04/23/2008, -0/+12I like that the story about the Dell bamboo computer is right below this...

- johnn11238, on 04/23/2008, -0/+2FINALLY! A computer small enough that you can gold plate the sumbitch without breakin the bank!
- Pyehole, on 04/23/2008, -4/+4This is gaudy and ugly as hell. That much is obvious. What is also obvious is that there is a real hatred out there for the Air which I have yet to really figure out. Well, other than the general disdain for the kool-aid drinking Mac crowd. But as an owner of an Air, who is certainly not a Mac fanatic (it's my first one) I really don't understand where that vitriol comes from. The Air serves a very specific purpose; ultra lightweight and portable computing. It delivers on just that. Yeah, there are other ultra lightweights out there, even other flash based computers, but so what? None of that takes away from the fact that the Air is a niche product that absolutely nails it.
(sits back and waits to get slammed with the big thumbs down)- InnerRayg, on 04/23/2008, -1/+3You and your stupid rational argument. You should know better, this is the Internet.
- Pyehole, on 04/23/2008, -3/+1Sigh. So true.
- choppergirl, on 04/23/2008, -1/+4Probably because the Air tries to sell 'less' as 'more', with a price tag to match the more part, and not the less part.
Design wise some things are correct... yes, you can do without a CDROM and a floppy drive (at least, until it goes belly up and you have to reinstall the OS)... but no, you can't do without a gigabit ethernet wired port, or more USB connectors. Most importantly, no user replaceable parts... its all soldered together... the harddrive, the battery, the RAM memory even (my god, the memory, that's insane)...
I'll stick with my Sony dual core VAIO, thank you very much, with its kickass nvidia 3D card in it... its pretty goddamn thin in its own right, and very lightweight without the battery. Which I never use anyway. - Pyehole, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1It's got a DVD for when you need to reinstall the OS, or install software. It is a separate product and you are paying again, but it's there. Same thing for the ethernet port, there is a dongle for that. You need more USB connectors, you attach a hub. You are spot on with the user replaceable parts though. For the most part, that won't matter. And, of course when the battery dies it does mean that it'll cost even more money at the Apple store to get it fixed. So yeah, the criticism that the Air is expensive is valid.
If you never use the battery on your laptop you don't need your laptop to be something you carry around while you use. In that case, what the Air does have to offer isn't something you are looking for in the first place so of course it doesn't justify the cost. - tizzleG, on 04/23/2008, -1/+0More like Apple nailed you. In the butt.
- Pyehole, on 04/24/2008, -0/+1By providing a product I wanted and love? Yeah, I feel so nailed.
- electrofreak2k7, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1...if it just wasn't over priced enough for ya...
- mogebier, on 04/23/2008, -0/+1Wow, they made that piece of ***** actually worth something. If you melt it down and sell the gold, that is.
