Getting around iTunes 7 CD Burn Limit
billkinkaid.com — iTunes imposes a 7 CD Burn Limit that I agree with if you are illegally sharing music. However, If you think you should be able to burn as many CD's as you'd like of YOUR OWN MUSIC that you purchased from iTunes; then you are as angry about the 7 CD limitation imposed by Apple as I am. There's a simple solution to this ...
- 7 diggs
- digg it
- TexasLonghorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Let me tell you something. iTunes is not as smart as everyone thinks it is. Here's the 7 CD BURN LIMIT solution for those who want to burn more than 7 CD's of the same Playlist for their own use. I'm against sharing music illegally; but I'm also against being limited to how many times I can burn MY own purchased music. Please only use this for yourself; and don't illegally share music. Now you've probably been reading numerous forum messages about this subject and some are getting way too technical. You need to forget about all of these DRM software solutions (Some are charging for their usage) and you need to forget about trying to reconfigure iTunes and all of it's code and security. The solution for the 7 BURN LIMIT is a simple one. So simple you'll say ... It can't be that easy? Let me tell you ... IT IS!
Here are the steps:
1. Create a Playlist of songs and then burn your Playlist to a CD
2. Now that you have them on CD. Delete the songs from your iTunes Library and delete any Playlists associated with the songs on the CD. Don't worry, you have the songs on your CD, so you won't be deleting them forever.
3. You will be asked when deleting or Clearing the Library stored songs if you want to move them to the recycle Bin. Say yes
4. Empty your Recycle Bin for good measure
5. Put the CD you burned into the drive, making sure iTunes is open when you do this, and once it recognizes there is a CD in the tray, iTunes will display the Import CD button on the upper right of the window. Now click the Import CD button.
6. The songs will be placed back into the Main Library of your songs.
7. Now create a new Playlist by clicking FILE then NEW PLAYLIST (Call it something different that what you called it before)
8. Now Click and Drag each song you just imported over to the Playlist you just created (It will be in the Folder tree on the left side of the iTunes window) FYI: If you want the songs to appear in a certain order just drag and drop them in the order you want them to be in on the CD. The 1st song dropped will be number 1 on the CD, and so forth.
9. Once you've dragged and dropped every song from the Library that you imported from the CD to the new Playlist; then place a new CD into your burner.
10. Once your burner is ready, click on your newly created Playlist on the left. You should see all of your songs. Make sure they are all checked. Then click the Burn Disc button in the upper right corner.
11. That's it!!!! You will not see the "7 BURN LIMIT" Message ever again for these songs and this Playlist.
Yep! It's that easy.
Just remember to only do this for your own use. I find it to be a matter of principle that you be able to burn as many copies of Cd's that you purchased as long as they are for your own use.
Good Luck and go Longhorns!!!! - theblueprint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1And what does "The World's Funniest Web Site" have to do with any of this?
Inaccurate. - TexasLonghorn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually,
That was a mistake. I didn't realize you had to link to a story and that the main title would take you to that link. This was my first post so I just put in a website. Stupid me! I thought you could just share your own info. I tried to delete the story and also to edit the message so the link wouldn't be there, but it won't let me. I did however include the instructions that the story is about, as a comment. - skoles, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2iTunes limits you to burn the same playlist 7 times. You could easily add a 2sec track of silence to the playlist and thus start anew.
- kmotiv1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah thats all good.....if you want to reencode those files and lose your audio quality.
