German court bans VoiP on iPhone

theregister.co.uk — A VoiP application for Apple's iPhone has been banned by the Higher Regional Court in Hamburg, Germany at the behest of T-Mobile. The app - available through Apple's iTunes App Store - allows users to make cheap phone calls using T-Mobile's Wi-Fi network and bypass roaming charges.

  • pyrates, on 09/18/2008, -0/+1Whoever wrote this article should redo it. Some inconsistencies:

    -App requires jailbroken iphones and only runs on firmware up to 1.1.4
    -App is available on the app store so therefore requires the version 2 firmware in reality
    -App says it works over T-Mobile's wifi network, isn't wifi 802.11b/g and didn't Apple say that was ok for voip apps on the iPhone?

    This just confuses me.
