- Humbick, on 10/10/2007, -17/+90Cmon.. yea its iMac-ish.. but its not the first all-in-one pc (esp. from gateway) and its definitely the best looking one.. and its a pc..
- reallydigginit, on 10/10/2007, -31/+102iMac copy? That's an insult to the Mac.
UGLY. - Gir9000, on 10/10/2007, -17/+78Apple has been copied for years, in design and software. This is not surprising, Gateway had an all in one prior to this anyway (years ago).
- NsinU8, on 10/10/2007, -7/+52WTF is up with that stand? It looks like it belongs on an 8x10 picture frame.
- ChromaVita, on 10/10/2007, -8/+46It's so cute to see how hard Gateway tries to do... anything effectively.
- rcfan, on 10/10/2007, -10/+44I don't like the large black area under the screen, looks dull!
- SaintStryfe, on 10/10/2007, -6/+35Looks like an ugly version of the 20th Anniversary Mac from '97

Good try Gateway. One day you'll be a big boy too. - ssavoy, on 10/10/2007, -13/+40Fugly
- CinaMichele, on 10/10/2007, -4/+24the One? What is this, the Matrix?
- OUChevelleSS, on 10/10/2007, -8/+28Did not realize people still bought Gateways...
- Roger, on 10/10/2007, -19/+39Its just a bigger and uglier version of the iMac.
Its cute that Gateway thinks they can pull this off. - yensed, on 10/10/2007, -7/+25Truth be told though. Gateway was one of the first PC manufactures to offer all in one PC's using LCD screens.
- fkr3, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18All-in-one machines have existed for a long time, and even in their newest forms they're still only a minor jump from a laptop.
- monospaced, on 10/10/2007, -12/+28For $1800 you can get an iMac with a 24" screen (versus 19"), a 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo processor (versus 2GHz). I guess the video card is basically the same (correct me if I'm wrong) and the included 3GB of RAM on the One is really nice (would be really expensive to get that on the iMac). I guess the additional features, and the ability to easily swap out components, of the Gateway are nice, but it can't run OS X.
- NatrlSelection, on 10/10/2007, -3/+19I especially like the last pic of the guy acting cool on the couch, while "The One" looks like its probably in Barry White mode on the table.
- toetagger, on 10/10/2007, -19/+34They can gold plate it- as long as it's still running Windows, it's a piece of *****.
- jeffburg, on 10/10/2007, -9/+24strange when an equivilant pc is more than the mac
- Lionhart, on 10/10/2007, -5/+19Wow what a giant waste of potential screen area with that huge black chunk.
- diulei, on 10/10/2007, -6/+19I remember that, I believe NEC had one also - but they were both hideous. Apple is never completely creative - but when they do something they make it look good. Then people make a copy-of-a-copy and for some reason, never get the design aspect quite right (with the exception of Sony, IMO).
- SpacedCowboy, on 10/10/2007, -7/+19As a Mac fan (not atic), let me be the first to say that that monstrosity is no copy. Instead of clean, elegant lines we have a sort of bulgy Mr. Potato-head imitation. In no way, shape (definitely!) or form is that a copy.
And it runs Windows, for [insert deity]'s sake. - SwabTheDeck, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14What's the point of spending ANY time to get it running on this thing? The article says it's $100 more than the cheapest iMac, has a smaller screen, a slower processor and doesn't seem to have an option for a dedicated graphics chip. So, why not just buy the god damn iMac? They do run Visduuuhh now, you know.
- wpjmurray, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Apple has always been on the cutting edge with the all-in-one design. The new iMac, as well as all previous iMacs, were original designs. The only reason it's an industry trend is because Apple made it one.
- resplence, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12A personal computer. They have been around since the late 70s. You can find out more in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Personal_computer
- x0nIMIn0x, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10And the cheaper mac runs Windows, too. Bizarro World am bizarre.
- Ouze, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11it's a shame you had to add "mactards' - which will relegate your otherwise pertinent and intelligent post to negative digg central.
Here's a Protip, kids - On Digg, generally these keywords and their variants will automatically negate anything you post and get you buried - "Windoze, Winblows, Micro$oft, and now, Mactard'. - etandrib, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8What gets me is the iMac is much cheaper than this POS Gateway machine. I think it would almost be cheaper to buy a Mac and then buy Windows to run bootcamp for cheaper than the Gateway with worse specs.
- iching, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Thanks, been looking for a photo. It looks like from the photograph given that it has a bigger chin than Leno and the iMac combined, in fact, almost half of the face of the front of the computer is a chin.
- cheesefan, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Reminds me of when Emachines copied the Apple iMac design.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EOne
Emachines is funny enough owned by Gateway now. - r3zonance, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10I'm not prepared to "spend enough time". I value time more than money. If I was prepared to spend enough time I'd be running Windows, but I'm not, hence why I'm running OS X on an Apple Mac.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Apple did it with aluminium and glass, not ***** silver painted plastic and loads of wire like dell did
- bogslug, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It looks a bit like the terminals on Star Trek:TNG.
- actorboy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11I don't see how they're trying to copy the iMac with this. It's an all-in-one. You have to have an upright display, so the innards have to go behind the display. It's neither rocket science nor a rip off.
- zweben, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Bootcamp runs Windows natively. It's not emulating anything, so it'll run at the same speed as an equivalent PC.
- sliggy, on 10/10/2007, -9/+16I think this is great for Gateway. Everyone knows that they haven't been doing the greatest in the past few years (psh, who the hell has a gateway?), so even if this is Imaccish, it's still a nice computer. Dugg.
- jttin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7the First Macs are all all-in-one.
- SpacedCowboy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11Oh no, I think they'll let this one go. I think they'll even insist any common resellers put them side-by-side. Can you imagine a better advertisement ? The thing is fugly. Really. Truly. Fugly.
To quote the phrase: "In no way, shape (especially!) or form is this a copy of the iMac". And that's the truth. - alexhengen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Sure, but can it survive 4 bullets to the chest? Can it destroy hundreds of sentinels with the wave of a finger? I think not. The One my ass.
- colincornaby, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8Why? The Mac is cheaper, has better specs, and also runs Ubuntu.
- Firehed, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8Who said anything about suing?
- ttamshadbolt, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8And this design really illustrates how well Apple does design
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10It must be quite depressing working in the design team there - "OK we need something that looks a bit like the new imac"
- ggko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Being the owner of the original G5 iMac, and bit of an Apple design nut (read: "I own and have read Paul Kunkel's book 'Appledesign' forwards & back,") I think the Gateway One looks fine. A solid black obelisk of computing power. I don't know why people are griping about the big black space under the screen ... how about a big white space?
http://images.google.com/images?q=imac+g5
My one gripe with it is the apparent placement of the optical drive slot. If peoples' desktops are like mine, there's junk cluttered all around the machine. The drive needs to be placed high for the disc to clear the mess. The little support leg in back looks scary too. - roberto_deneero, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6They have to charge more to recoup the cost of all those iMacs they had to buy to let their design team copy Apple.
- warning9, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Thats ok, I did not realize Gateway was still in business.
- Ouze, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6OK - I'll see your apple lisa and raise you an Osbourne 1.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Osborne_1 - (April, 1981) - hamdogger, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8who cares if it's a copy or not. it has a smaller screen and processor and is more expensive, so it's a no-brainer anyway. or at least it should be. so there.
- RogerStrong, on 10/10/2007, -32/+37It's so cute how, when Apple follows an industry trend and does what others have been doing, Mac users claim that Apple was the first.
- x0nIMIn0x, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6That thing was a POS, a horrible rip-off of loyal customers. The subwoofer had huge noise problem from faulty wiring, and Apple knew about it, but told us (the phone support crew) to not share that info with customers who called for tech support. The official company policy was that we were to have the machine shipped back to us at Apple for "investigation", then we warehoused the system for months until Apple figured out how to handle the situation. I remember talking to customers who would call and beg to have their machines returned to them after 2 or 3 months, but we were told to lie to them and say that a solution was near, the engineers were working on it, and they would probably have their system returned any day. Meanwhile, those obscenely expensive computers just gathered dust.
I do not miss the Apple of the mid 1990s. - SaintStryfe, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7It runs as well as an equally specced PC. I've not found any problems, but honestly, I'd stick with Windows XP. It's just faster.
- wageslaven, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9Nothing. Apple's not the first to do an all in one computer (as said before, this isnt even the first for Gateway). NEC has shown design study after study with PCs much like this, as has Intel.
The imac and this arent ground breaking, they exist in a long line of this exact form factor. -
