- tacojohn, on 10/18/2007, -0/+41Starting to get a little excited about Leopard. There are some new useful features, nothing revolutionary though. Looks like Apple's taken Tiger and added a fine layer of polish to the interface and features.
Hopefully 10.5.0 will be a very stable release. Good times ahead for Mac users! - thesportoflife, on 10/18/2007, -2/+28im just happy i can trash shapeshifter and uno now.
- cave, on 10/10/2007, -4/+20The aqua scroll bar doesn't fit in at all with the rest of the Leopard theme. I thought they would have changed it by now.
- slightlyoffbeat, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16and what is the deal with ovaltine!
- inactive, on 10/22/2007, -1/+15It's usually a smoother transition that with Windows, but it still always feels batter to do a clean install. I just love that OCD-induced ecstasy I get every time I start fresh, doesn't everybody else...
- jonahan52, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14Probably becuase you'd have to take an actual picture as no software runs on the login window.
- jadenton, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12Terminal gets tabs in Leopard, screen shots have already leaked.
- NoNamesLeft, on 10/10/2007, -7/+19I really think they've ***** up the UI with Leopard, I don't like the dark menus and transparent menu bar. Also, what's with the blue folder icons? They look like something IBM would use. I run OS X every day yet every day i am losing hope in Apple's future direction - I used to love them now I just put up with them because it's better than Windows and runs BBEdit and CS3. Stop snatching developers for the stupid iPhone and iPod Touch Apple and get back to doing what you do best, computers!
- ThatsUnpossible, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13Sorry, Time Machine is pretty revolutionary. The level of integration, ease of use. It takes the onerous chore of having to remember to make backups, and turns it into something that is braindead simple AND FUN to use. It truly would be revolutionary if Apple can get normal people into the regular habit of making useful backups.
- dagamer34, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10I would have thought they'd switch the scroll bars to something more like what iTunes has. Aqua is dead.
- TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9I'm excited that you can modify grid size, but that's just me. :P
Leopard should be sweet-ass. :D - Ireland, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Aqua radio buttons, Aqua check boxes, Aqua buttons, Aqua sliders and Aqua scroll bars. WTF Apple? They just have to be talking the piss here.
- bborofka, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Can we finally resize images with Preview now?
- turpenine, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7I updated my osx a few times, it works just fine usually, but why not take the chance to remove the clutter?
- srg13, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10Time machine is completely different than Window's System Restore...
- flipmeat, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8If you want to see resolution independent UI in action, go watch the movies on Apple's site for the new Mainstage app that ships with Logic Studio. Anything with a blue outline in the movie can be resized without loss of image quality. Most of the objects are 3D models too. Not where anyone thought this feature would go, I'd say.
- manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6I've been following message boards on this topic, and it seems that the logic screen is identical, though the background has been changed to the default "Aurora/Space" background, like the desktop.
- flipmeat, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5He speaks the truth, for, verily, upgrade installs be the devil's work. Archive and install, or use Migration Assistant in Applications/Utilities to bring in your account, mail, etc.
- samthorogood, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8One of the comments in TFA talks about how resolution independence is no-where to be seen. Well, back at WWD06, it was mentioned that this wasn't even going to ship in Leopard short of some naïve support for developers (i.e. better than Tiger, but not much). There's some talk (http://developer.apple.com/leopard/overview/) here about it from a developer point of view, but last updated in November 2006. Hell, in a quick google there's even an article on AppleInsider from 2004 toting how it would be a big feature in Tiger.
Also, on a completely unrelated note, the UI is being botched. Wah. - GothAlice, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Anyone in more than a home setup (with is a vast number of Apple users) work in corporate or educational environments where logging in is vital. I agree - it's strange that there are not shots of the login dialog.
- k3vinmartian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Apparently, it looks exactly like Tigers login, but with the new purple space wallpaper.
- DelMonte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5In some of the WWDC sessions, Apple told developers to have their apps resolution-independence-ready by 2008.
- yabos, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Download your porn to one folder and put that folder in the do not back up section. When it runs out of space it starts deleting the oldest backups.
- asancho, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5im excited that Front Row is getting updated, because seriously, if your like me and treat your mac as a media center, you know that Front Row sucks major donkey balls.
- HUKI365, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4I'm not sure if your right or not, but I'll stab you in the eye just the same: *stab*

http://tinyurl.com/379ymk - hotdamn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4as far as I can remember Preview is now capable of basic image editing. please don't hunt me down if it's not true.
- tablelegs, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Err...?
- DelMonte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Yes you can now resize images with Preview, amongst other new editing features.
- DelMonte, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Sorry, VSS is as similar to Time Machine as a unicycle is similar to a car. Yes, both have wheels and are modes of transportation.
Sure there's a similar underlying back-up process, but there's much more than that in Time Machine. TM provides a set of API's which any Apps can use to provide this same interface and functionality to much more than a file browser.
Not only the Finder will be able to go back in time in Leopard, the address book, iPhoto and others too. Third parties will be able to access these APIs and provide the same functionality to many apps with only a few lines of code.
Time machine enables you to go back in time on windows that have dynamic content, for example you can use Time Machine on smart folder, or on a window that includes standard search results. - kschramm, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Like this:
http://tinyurl.com/2ff35p - coldfusion1970, on 10/10/2007, -7/+10I look forward to erasing and installing my iMac when 10.5 finally ships.
I always do a complete install when doing major updates (eg. 10.3 to 10.4) and i never have a problem.
People who install in place (eg. 10.5 ontop of 10.4) are just asking for problems with incompatible extensions and applications. - kaytrio, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3...the glass is round, the mug is round, they should call it roundtine!
- Hydraulix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Are they ever going to upgrade the terminal? It's long overdue for an upgrade.

- Burn, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4@srg13
cgreentx is talking about about the Volume Shadow Service (VSS), not System Restore, and they are right - VSS is very similar in how it works to Time Machine. - DonCarcharo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I hate to say it, but the folders in Vista are about ten times prettier. Perhaps now that Vista is all shiny and pretty OS X feels the need to be dark and dull.
- dragon76, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Migration Assistant does not work if your user account is on the same partition. It has to be on another disk or another partition. for 99% of Mac users and 99.999% of the time it's a waste of space.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I use Leopard every day and love it.
Time machine is wonderful and the iCal Server will be the best thing Apple has ever done ... until Final Cut Server ships... - dragon76, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Terminal also gets "themes".
- coldfusion1970, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5Theres not too many people who use the login screen.
Most Macs are set to auto-login at boot-up. - cyberwiz01, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2What's the deal with Corn Nuts?
- DelMonte, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I don't know about the specifics of QCCompositionLayer, but Leopard does include Garbage Collection services.
- dragon76, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Spoken like someone who has never used Mac OS Classic. The folders look like an updated version of System 7, actually.
- freaktheclown, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Using "Secure Empty Trash" will permanently delete the file and all of its Time Machine backups, from what I've heard.
- samthorogood, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Zing! Now that's what I'm talking about.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I upgrade installed my old powerbook from 10.1 to 10.4 and never had a single issue
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1never see them, I copy my bookmarks over them before launching it
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1At the minute I zoom them then screenshot and paste it back into preview. Works ok if you want a rough resize just because Preview has very good antialias
- msgyrd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1While very similar, I think the biggest difference is that when Apple does it, developers might actually use it. They'll tie it into the OS in a useful way. MS implemented VSS and not only does the average consumer not have a clue about it, most Windows developers probably don't care either.
