- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2>I wish Apple would invest in making a native version of OpenOffice...
There is a NATIVE version of the latest OpenOffice 2.0, it was released last month.
http://www.tuaw.com/2005/10/24/open-office-v2-0-for-mac-os-x-released/
It uses X11, but its still native and much faster than NeoOffice/J, and its based on OpenOffice 2 with all the cool new stuff unlike Neo/J which is on OO1.x.
I think it works pretty damn good right now. And I am excited that they are now working on the cocoa version of OO 2.x and plan on releasing it next year. - longofest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1zforrester: you won't be able to get iLife06 for free, so don't complain when you can't. You might, however, be able to upgrade to Front Row 2.0, since that is a light-weight app.
Apple only allows "free" upgrades ($19.99 for shipping) for people who buy a machine without the new software pre-installed on or after the new software's release date. - outlanderBZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1why would anyone want to use a DVR that cant even decode cable or satelitte HD? pointless, get your DVR from your provider and leave the computer for music and pictures. Apple is on the right track. MS messed up because people cant program a VCR let alone get a computer based DVR to work.
make it simple, make money
make it harder then programming a VCR, make no money - qx4_man, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I wish Apple would invest in making a native version of OpenOffice... similar to the way Safari leveraged the open source KHTML libraries. Having "Apple" only apps like Pages and now a spreadsheet not that useful. They should keep their focus on creative apps like Aperture, GarageBand, FCS Pro, etc.
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Bluetooth remote would be nice.
Or let me use the Keyspan Media Remote. - enumerated, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Front Row w/ Salling Clicker - That's pretty cool
- stewacide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This seems like a no-brainer. The MacMini seems like it was born to fill the living-room roll.
- joehobbes, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've used the remote on Front Row.
It's suprisingly useful and easy
Don't knock it til you try it - Bitgod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can guarantee that if you buy a computer before Macworld, you won't be getting ilife 06, and pretty much the same for Front Row 2. Other than iTunes, 1.0 to 1.x is free, but going 1.x to 2.x is a paid upgrade.
- MonkeyFit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"$50 for a remote control is pretty expensive..."
You should see some of the Logitech universal remotes. $100+. Just for one remote. Of course, those remotes come jam-packed with functionality. This better not be another mighty mouse. That was a complete laughing stock. $10 per button on that mouse. This remote better do at least 3/4 of the functions in a Logitech remote for 1/2 the devices. - AhronZombi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1zforresters comment is classic. im a mac user and i see mac users all over the place comenting that they think they will get free upgrade to things from their OS to iapps. Why people? get the picture, you wont get it free thats just the way it is, why do so many of you choose to assume otherwise?
- dayquil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1a bluetooth remote is only good if you really let go of everything else in your media center (which is unlikely, as people will generally still have at least a receiver they'd like to control remotely). to me, i'd use the apple remote for about five minutes - to program the things it does into my master programmable remote. if it's bluetooth it does nothing more than increase the number of remotes i have to diddle with. aside from having to point it at the machine, what's wrong with IR?
- prodigy311, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Or let me use the Keyspan Media Remote"
Do a google search for keyspan remote front row! should help... - stokestack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"$50 for a remote control is pretty expensive..."
What about $40 for an iPod dock, which is useless because it doesn't come with a cable? That's another $20. So a glorified plastic tray with a wire is $60, but this remote is $50. By comparison, it's a bargain. - outlanderBZ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just hope Front Row on my mac mini in the living room can play the "shared" libraries from my other "larger" imac which sits in my office.
- diggnationdevon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I love Apple to death.
- Nick_Circosta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1
Also its a Page 2.... so we shouldnt trust it that much - BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1$50 for a remote control is pretty expensive...
- Books, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The remote is already on Sale. The Apple iPod IR remote is identical to the Front Row remote.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0wow good sluthing... no this is old
http://www.frontlinetech.blogspot.com - Nick_Circosta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0
No its not an old story its an old rumor that has been floating around on many discussion boards - xistboi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0WISE MOVE!
- cmirza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The Apple Remote is kind of lame. It gives you all the control of the iPod Shuffle plus a Menu button. What I'd love is an Apple Remote 2.0 w/ click wheel. That would be briliant.
Imagine if the Apple DVR software is true and being able to channel surf with the click wheel... - trogdoor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I hope that Front Row 2.0 is a hell of a lot better than the current version. I really expected more from apple than just a shinny interface with few features and bugs that could be fixed with a simple if statement : if(!fileType.issupportedByquicktime()){ instead of crashing just don't try to display the file}
Honestly having one windows media file in my movies folder should not cause Front Row to crash.
Hopefully Apple has realized this and will go back to creating stable good programs like everything else they make. - Nick_Circosta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yawn Old News, We presumed this the night (here in WA) of the keynote
-Nick - burntfire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0The remotes better be bluetooth.
- greensky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"I wish Apple would invest in making a native version of OpenOffice..."
That would be nice, but if they did that Microsoft would discontinue Office for MacOS and they would be in serious trouble. - theblackapple, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I would purchase one. But im sure an angle will be worked in, so its recommends you buy content in iTunes etc.
http://theblankapple.blogspot.com/ - zforrester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0which means i better beable to get ilife 06 for free, since im ordering a new iMac G5 this week
- hibern8, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0FYI, the current iMac remote sells for $29 right now w/o a transmitter, even w/ one $50 is a rip off.
Anyways, all this talk of how Mac mini and FrontRow will own the living room is just bonkers at this time. Mac mini is underpowered even for a DVR and Front Row is a sorry excuse for an application right now ... hopefully 2.0 versions of both will make them worthwhile. - asshanks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I personally think the Apple remote is very innovative but I think it was absolulety bs that Steve Jobs had to bust MS's media center remote. I agree that MS can build a remote. But steve jobs doesn't have tv and all that good functionality into front row right now, so he shouldn't be bitching

What is Digg?
