- wiredclimber, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not sure why this is listed in apple but good find.
Seems like most of these are from Librovox.com which could really use some better readers.
Some of the books are almost painful to listen to.- silentdud, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I would pay to hear an actor or someone else read them. It is not worth it. Some of these are extremely poor quality switching back from ear to ear. However I respect the reader for giving out his works in the public domain and hail him for his gesture of providing them free of charge to anyone who might wish to hear them. I can see it now: copies of religious works and such renamed and transmitted encrypted across censored lines in any internet connected nation. It is all about the freedom of speech.
Free speech is the first right, and the most important of rights because it allows people to say something about the unfair trial, or to defend themselves when accused, or to request a warrant regardless of whether or not one will ever be presented.
Good tidings and Merry Christmas
Mike - DogmaticAtheism, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2It's because morons keep using the wrong term for this. It's called NETCAST but for some reason everyone wants to tie this in with Apple by calling it a podcast... idiots... they don't deserve free marketing from us.

- zaren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Not to comment spam, but the comments on oculture include a link to www.podiobooks.com. They have a really good selection of books and novels there in a wide range of styles and genres, also completely free to download, with donations to the authors requested. I'm quite fond of "How To Disappear Completely".
- jaycliche, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Ralph Waldo Emerson is ahead of OUR time. He's the best.
- bizkit00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i listened to Notes from the Underground, one of the darkest, moodiest books I've read, and the guy reading it sounds happy and cheerful! listen for comedic value.
- jon3k, on 10/12/2007, -16/+3No Nietzsche, no digg!
EDIT: Oh *****, before you digg me down, seriously, I looked, no Nietzsche :(- Mitthrawnuruodo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Beyond Good and Evil
Sixth one down.
- Mitthrawnuruodo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Beyond Good and Evil
- Xanadude, on 10/12/2007, -14/+2Too focused on the dying, bankrupt Western "civilization." Should be at least 60% Chinese and 25% Hindi.
- Petronski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@Xanadude:
Get over yourself, Chachi.
- Petronski, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@Xanadude:

- theanax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes. God yes.
- matman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The creaking chair and the cute fan hum throughout some of the recordings really add a touch of class. However better than I could do so good effort lads!
- KriLL3.2™, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Just browse any torrent site out there, easier way to get good audiobooks.
Btw, wtf is a "audiobook podcasts" ? Isn't it audiobook or podcast?- pbull, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well... if it's an audiobook that's been split into multiple segments as MP3 files, and those files can be delivered via RSS, then I'd say it's an audiobook podcast.
I've subbed to a few free audiobooks in iTunes, and it works fine when the publisher remembers to put the files in order in the RSS.

- donrichy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, thanks!
- xmuzik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wiredclimber is right , i downloaded some stuff from libravox and it was awful. It's a good idea , but they need some better readers for sure , or at the least they need some readers that know how to use some Digital Audio Recording Software so that they can make some edits when people screw up while reading.
- DimitroffVodka, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah I can completely agree about who is reading the book makes the book. I have heard a book read by Matt Damon. He did an excellent job reading it.
- itstheloganator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is great! i have to read some of these books for school and audibooks are great!
- aabudara, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I have downloaded some audio books from librivox and they were not good. I then find Audio Book Fortress at a which has free, high quality audio books
- aabudara, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Audio Book Fortress, which I mentioned in my last post is at http://www.audiobookfortress.com
- lingil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You can also get audiobook downloads at http://www.AudiobookSuperCenter.com
- weheh, on 02/01/2008, -0/+0Another great find is YAKiToMe! http://www.yakitome.com. They have free audio book podcasts plus they let you turn any text automatically into an audio book podcast. Their system supports multiple languages, including English, Spanish, and French.
