forums.macrumors.com — This is a hands-on report, and I really hope that they fix as many of these issues as they can!! Most people in the thread seem to agree wholeheartedly and Apple needs to release a patch... after which I, and others, will be very-very happy power-users. It's great feedback.

    • skellener, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Sounds like there's a lot that needs work on the iPhone. But number six is absolutely inexcusable since it's not something that can be fixed in software!!!

      6. You need an adapter to use other headphones.
      The iPhone's earphone connector IS standard 1/8" jack... but it's recessed. You need an extender to plug in any other type of headphones. Apple's earphones hurt my ears so I have no choice but to lug around an antenna-like product from Belkin that cost an extra $10 and is easily lost. Lame.

      Now that is LAME, LAME, LAME!!!

    The problems with e-mailing pictures seem particularly bad.

    Other complaints made me think, "Well why the ***** did you buy it then?" Are people's lust for new tech making them incapable of reading ***** tech specs? IF IT DOESN'T DO WHAT YOU WANT DON'T ***** BUY IT. Jesus.

    That doesn't really apply -- Apple only offers 1 cellphone and there's little that we're asking to make it work well for everyone. I'm overall pretty happy with the phone, as long as we can make it work just 5% better or so (a lot of issues have been outlined by various sources, most of which can be fixed through a software update)

  • rwallen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+311. You can't just drag and drop songs or movies to the phone in itunes like you can do with the ipod. You have to sync playlists in order to get stuff to the phone, which is really retarded if you have more than 1 iphone.

    12. No MMS which means no picture messages, they have to be sent through email.

    LV bags are by far poorer than iphone; however, it's so strange that many people want to squander thier banknotes on the superficial products which comparatively requires almost no professional depth(any street passenger is capable of designing them, and most rural bag factories are able manufacture them) but just resorts to trickery to swindle some stupid ones. On the contrary, the greatness and awesomeness of all engineers and program designers of iphone, by far loftier and respectable than lv's bags, is enough to touch ordinary users. It's better for all who want to criticize the badness of iphone to scold the superficial, shallow, and rubbish contents of lv bags at first; after all, it will never be iphone's turn to be criticized compared with other worldly products.

    THE REASON people are complaining is because this thing costs more than a majority of the SmartPhones. And for the price you're spending, you should get all of the features you'd expect to with a SmartPhone. The average Joe consumer isn't going to buy this phone, it's too costly. So that leaves:

    Tech heads and rich people (and a few poor people who are dumb enough to scrounge up the money for it)

    Rich people don't need all these features, but Tech heads do. That's why SmartPhones are as prevalent as they are. I was thinking of an iPhone, because i'm in the market for a SmartPhone. Not anymore. The interface is SLICK AS HELL. But the actual functionality seems to be rather crap. And it's stick on AT&T and that's just asstastic. Bah.

  • DonCarcharo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Normally I hate reading these "missing features" lists for the iPhone because I truly believe that most of the gripes about this phone are misplaced. The iPhone, although technically a smart phone, is not meant to replace your Windows Mobile or Blackberry handset feature for feature. It may have a similar price but I don't think they directly compete. Evidence of this is that my mom, who NEVER wanted anything more than a basic free phone, really wants an iPhone. That says something about the market for this device.

    With that said, this is a good list. It brings up several points that would affect someone like myself who might be in the market for an iPhone. I'd like email, web, contacts and a phone, maybe music. That's it. However things like not having a file system and not being able to use the phone as a Bluetooth modem would affect my decision to purchase an iPhone.

  • CanIGetAWitness, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Is it true that the battery is built in? If so, this will be the greatest downfall as your phones life is dependent on your battery life. Batteries are getting better, but not lifetime. I love the post about the complaint of the razr models keep changing for improvements and that iPhone just needs software for improvement. At least I can replace the battery in a razr for $10.

It aims to do enough to suit the majority of people and to dip a toe into the waters of the market. This thing is running OSX and they've announced they plan to update the thing. Give it more than a day!

  • oldjacques, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Don't have an iPhone yet (the Old Continent has to wait y'know) but seeing the demo on the "intelligent completion" one thing just popped out: if you use the "spacebar" to accept the suggested correction, if you typed exactly what you want and got to the end of the word, but got a suggestion for something else (that you obviously don't want), how do you keep typing your message? It would seem that continuing normally (hitting space and starting the next word) would accept the correction and change what I want, forcing me to recorrect anything that isn't in the iPhone dictionary.
    Or does it automagically read minds too?

    Apple did mess up on a few things, but that it is all software, they'll be able to fix it a LOT easier then we probably expect.
