Forum Discussion: 10 Things that "Absolutely suck" about the iPhone!
forums.macrumors.com — This is a hands-on report, and I really hope that they fix as many of these issues as they can!! Most people in the thread seem to agree wholeheartedly and Apple needs to release a patch... after which I, and others, will be very-very happy power-users. It's great feedback.

- Agentstinky, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5Dang, some of those seem really irritating. They could be in some trouble if they don't fix them.
- mrblondel, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2Most of these things could be fixed with a software update. Not being able to access the itunes store on the go is a real oversight!
- short_man, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3They could be, but knowing apple, they won't give you major software updates for free. They'll want people buying 2nd Gen iPhones in a year from now.
- skellener, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Sounds like there's a lot that needs work on the iPhone. But number six is absolutely inexcusable since it's not something that can be fixed in software!!!
6. You need an adapter to use other headphones.
The iPhone's earphone connector IS standard 1/8" jack... but it's recessed. You need an extender to plug in any other type of headphones. Apple's earphones hurt my ears so I have no choice but to lug around an antenna-like product from Belkin that cost an extra $10 and is easily lost. Lame.
Now that is LAME, LAME, LAME!!!
- lcfiner, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11I gotta say, this is the most well thought out list of concerns about the iPhone that I've seen. It's refreshing to see criticisms that aren't just "it doesn't have 3G!!!"
The problems with e-mailing pictures seem particularly bad.
...I still want the phone, though :/- sk8ar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Who doesn't ? heh, I'm pretty sure IPhone will improve a lot after this first release, after all there will be millions of users who will certanily find all the bugs, mistakes and things that aren't available on Iphone.
But Iphone is already one of the best, if not the best phone out there ;) (good for everything :) http://www.videos4fun.info/iphone-good-for-everything/ ) - techmaster7b, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Wow, ignorance at its finest. "There are so many problems and it is so expensive, but I gotta' have it because I am a sheep."
- sk8ar, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Who doesn't ? heh, I'm pretty sure IPhone will improve a lot after this first release, after all there will be millions of users who will certanily find all the bugs, mistakes and things that aren't available on Iphone.
- TomPlansMedia, on 10/11/2007, -6/+5im just as sick of iphone bashing as i am of iphone praise
- diegomh7, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1gutted !! I hope to god they sort all this ***** out before its released in the UK, I mean we pay for ***** twice over compared to the rest of the world so Ill be well dissapointed if this ***** isnt sorted out before I get ripped of with the UK double pricing system.
FECK ! - HunterTV, on 10/11/2007, -9/+5Some of this stuff will get fixed with software updates. A lot of it is probably just because it hasn't been tested "in the wild" yet.
Other complaints made me think, "Well why the ***** did you buy it then?" Are people's lust for new tech making them incapable of reading ***** tech specs? IF IT DOESN'T DO WHAT YOU WANT DON'T ***** BUY IT. Jesus.- digiguy, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1it has been tested in the wild. Steve Jobs and 3 other executives were using the iPhone for 5 months. and the thing for months before announced and after FCC approval
- smash, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5"IF IT DOESN'T DO WHAT YOU WANT DON'T [FRICKIN] BUY IT."
That doesn't really apply -- Apple only offers 1 cellphone and there's little that we're asking to make it work well for everyone. I'm overall pretty happy with the phone, as long as we can make it work just 5% better or so (a lot of issues have been outlined by various sources, most of which can be fixed through a software update)- Urusai, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Yes, Apple only makes one phone, and you must own a phone made by Apple. They've got you over a barrel, they do!
- digitaltrav, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6No more iPhone stories PLEASE. If you want one, buy it. If you don't, then don't. If you want to talk about it use an enthusiast forum ... stop flooding digg with this stuff.
- normalizer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1For some reason I kind of think the apple section on DIGG would BE an enthusiast's forum.... how bout just not reading stories that have something to do with anything apple related?
- digiguy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2All this Apple iPhone bashing. Mine works and If didn't want it, Apple doesn't force me to buy it..
- rwallen, on 10/11/2007, -1/+311. You can't just drag and drop songs or movies to the phone in itunes like you can do with the ipod. You have to sync playlists in order to get stuff to the phone, which is really retarded if you have more than 1 iphone.
12. No MMS which means no picture messages, they have to be sent through email. - wushi, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4and that's why you never buy a product the day it comes out...
*chuckles waiting for 3rd or fourth gen iphone*- climaxdesigns, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1hahahahaah exactly
- isculture, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1
LV bags are by far poorer than iphone; however, it's so strange that many people want to squander thier banknotes on the superficial products which comparatively requires almost no professional depth(any street passenger is capable of designing them, and most rural bag factories are able manufacture them) but just resorts to trickery to swindle some stupid ones. On the contrary, the greatness and awesomeness of all engineers and program designers of iphone, by far loftier and respectable than lv's bags, is enough to touch ordinary users. It's better for all who want to criticize the badness of iphone to scold the superficial, shallow, and rubbish contents of lv bags at first; after all, it will never be iphone's turn to be criticized compared with other worldly products. - ZeRux, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Look, it's an iPhone-related digg story! I haven't seen one in a while!
- nicksource, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Nod32 blocks the site, JS Trojan... nice. :)
- DaveClarkOne, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0God, you must be fun to live with. Unbelievably unbalanced "review"
- Nerfdude, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3the iphone is about as well thought out as the new digg comment system, frankly.
- stopsucking, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I think we're all forgetting that we are real the beta testers. Apple will hear the complaints from the real day to day users and adjust accordingly through software updates.
- jonr, on 10/11/2007, -0/+211. Flooded digg with iPhone stories...
- isculture, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0the passage above:
thier→their
able manufacture→able to manufacture - bleutuna, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Before this thread becomes like the last one - lemme say something:
THE REASON people are complaining is because this thing costs more than a majority of the SmartPhones. And for the price you're spending, you should get all of the features you'd expect to with a SmartPhone. The average Joe consumer isn't going to buy this phone, it's too costly. So that leaves:
Tech heads and rich people (and a few poor people who are dumb enough to scrounge up the money for it)
Rich people don't need all these features, but Tech heads do. That's why SmartPhones are as prevalent as they are. I was thinking of an iPhone, because i'm in the market for a SmartPhone. Not anymore. The interface is SLICK AS HELL. But the actual functionality seems to be rather crap. And it's stick on AT&T and that's just asstastic. Bah. - adma84, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0This is a much better review than the other iPhone sucks article. Glad I am holding out for version 2....And why are all these people so defensive about an informative 'true' article...I guess they are upset about the 600 they just dropped? :-P
- mobilehavoc, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1None of this stuff matters if you have $600 to blow and not think twice about it. Worst case, if I get bored with it or something better comes out I'll buy that as well.
- DonCarcharo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Normally I hate reading these "missing features" lists for the iPhone because I truly believe that most of the gripes about this phone are misplaced. The iPhone, although technically a smart phone, is not meant to replace your Windows Mobile or Blackberry handset feature for feature. It may have a similar price but I don't think they directly compete. Evidence of this is that my mom, who NEVER wanted anything more than a basic free phone, really wants an iPhone. That says something about the market for this device.
With that said, this is a good list. It brings up several points that would affect someone like myself who might be in the market for an iPhone. I'd like email, web, contacts and a phone, maybe music. That's it. However things like not having a file system and not being able to use the phone as a Bluetooth modem would affect my decision to purchase an iPhone.
Thanks for the list. - CanIGetAWitness, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Is it true that the battery is built in? If so, this will be the greatest downfall as your phones life is dependent on your battery life. Batteries are getting better, but not lifetime. I love the post about the complaint of the razr models keep changing for improvements and that iPhone just needs software for improvement. At least I can replace the battery in a razr for $10.
- Whammo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Rename this story "I've had my iPhone less than 24 hours, and I'm already whining like a schoolgirl"
- moisie, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3The iPhone has a "limited" feature set but aims to do what it does to a higher standard than anything else on the market. It aims to do enough to suit the majority of people and to dip a toe into the waters of the market. This thing is running OSX and they've announced they plan to update the thing. Give it more than a day!
- floguy, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Whatever, I love my iPhone. All of the things in this article are 'nice-to-have's, not dealbreakers.
- sljivovic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1For me, they'd be dealbreakers.
- oldjacques, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Don't have an iPhone yet (the Old Continent has to wait y'know) but seeing the demo on the "intelligent completion" one thing just popped out: if you use the "spacebar" to accept the suggested correction, if you typed exactly what you want and got to the end of the word, but got a suggestion for something else (that you obviously don't want), how do you keep typing your message? It would seem that continuing normally (hitting space and starting the next word) would accept the correction and change what I want, forcing me to recorrect anything that isn't in the iPhone dictionary.
Or does it automagically read minds too? - alphex, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Its all software.
All of it.
Apple did mess up on a few things, but that it is all software, they'll be able to fix it a LOT easier then we probably expect.
I'm annoyed I can't comment on that blog, I'd like to respond in detail to a few of this items. - nicerobot, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1http://absolutelysucks.blogspot.com/
