- markus941, on 10/10/2007, -14/+7That's pretty slick. Sex appeal over usefulness or functionality. MT & Apple both.
- Rygood, on 02/03/2008, -2/+11not sure if i can agree with that statement. What other host gives you the functionality to buy a domain, reboot your server etc from a mobile browser? Traditional hosting panels are heavy, and not mobile friendly. Just because a company puts out "sexy" products, you can't say usefulness or functionality is lacking until you have used the products.
- yikiad, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1retracted
- TremorX, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Didn't you get the memo? It's supposedly cool to hate the iPhone this week.
- mwolfzorn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I thought the iPhone was the real internet, not the dulled down mobile internet... The commercials lied to me...
- winnch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2As someone who manages hundreds of MT servers, I'd say this is sex appeal AND useful/functional.
Get a grip and expect more from the products you use. Design and functionality are not mutually exclusive. As someone who is right now using the new MT account center on my iPhone, I can tell you it's going to save me a lot of headache when I'm on the go and have an emergency.

- mannaran, on 10/10/2007, -10/+5Functionality > Looks
- aten, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5I highly doubt that, the normal customer will always look at appearance, THAN the functionality.
- themuffinman, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4If you're going to type a word in all caps, THEN you should probably use the correct word.
- OrangeTide, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2just look at SUV sales to get an idea of how little functionality matters.
- kday, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1wtf are you talking about.
SUV's are a lot more functional than sedans. They can haul large items, they can tow boats, they can haul your whole family, they can easily drive on unpaved roads, etc.
I think you are confusing functionality with fuel efficiency.- gregdigg, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If a sedan can't haul your whole family, you might want to look into condom use.
- kday, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1wtf are you talking about.
- winnch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Stop living in the open source or Microsoft worlds. You can expect both from the products you pay for. Design and functionality are not mutually exclusive.
- aten, on 10/10/2007, -3/+5I highly doubt that, the normal customer will always look at appearance, THAN the functionality.
- acu8509, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Regarding the functionality v. looks argurment, both are equally important. Powerful software with a ***** UI is worth the same as ***** software with a gorgeous UI. so functionality>looks and design>speed arguments are both futile. I feel that the best wat to describe their relationship is:
Design ∝ Functionality- tito13kfm, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2I agree to a point, but functionality will always matter more than design. A Porsche Boxster or Mercedes Benz 320 sure would be pretty sitting in my driveway, but with a fautly engine they are worthless. A 1986 Fiero or Pinto would be head and shoulders above the pretty cars without a working engine
- skidooer, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Except usability is part of design. What if your 1986 Fiero or Pinto used a complex system of gears and pulleys to operate the steering, acceleration and breaking instead of the traditional steering wheel and pedals? What if it was so complicated that it took years of studying how to operate it just to be able to get to the corner store?
On the other hand, the well designed Porsche and Mercedes lack signal lights (hypothetically speaking), thus being not as functional as their counterparts.
Which would you choose?

- MDrake, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4MT has been on top of things for a long time - I have them as my host for several of my own and client sites, they've been wonderful.
- korymatthew, on 10/10/2007, -7/+2apple & MT. both overpriced. both sexy as hell.
- karthickdoss, on 10/10/2007, -3/+2I wish Apple releases SDK. I want to see more apps for iPhone... Maybe Apple can give it to the developers as christmas gift...
- soupir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Yes, Apple has been sending out really nice Christmas gifts the past few years. Mighty Mouse, anyone?
- anmol2k4, on 10/10/2007, -7/+1When will this madness stop ?

- GliTCH82, on 10/10/2007, -7/+3Correction: Only iPhone Account Center.
Ok, seriously, WAP and similar technologies have been on phones for a while now. Why should a lot of companies jump on board and spend time and effort creating iPhone friendly portals for a specific niche market? We're talking only a subset of a single cell phone provider's customer base here. While it could be useful for some, it's not viable enough to catch on and start a trend.- briankoenig03, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Except for the fact that they are getting front page Digg coverage, are upholding their reputation as a cutting-edge hosting service, and created a product explicitly focused at the "I've gotta have the newest, sexiest tech" crowd that is exactly who they want to appeal to.
- jdbholmes, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2I wish the letter "I" and the word "Phone" did not exist , driving me CRAZY .

http://www.nyse.com/about/listed/lcddata.html?ticker=AAPL- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Please shut up. It's still up over 4% on the day. Considering the rest of the overall market is way down, it's amazing that Apple is still going up.
- pak314, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0So is the rest of the market!
- MalDON, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4dugg for mediatemple.
- pak314, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Is this considered an application?
- binarymelon, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Is there anyway to test this out without having an iphone. I'm a Mediatemple customer and would like to check this out as I'm planning to get an iPhone if the thing ever comes to Canada.
- michaelschade, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Canadians are awesome.
- S1L3NTC, on 10/10/2007, -6/+5 Great. Do I have to look forward to a new front page item for every ***** piece of software released for the iPhone?
- typographics, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1yes, your prayers have been answered.
- soupir, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's silly. You don't have to look forward to it. You can dread it.
- valentinr, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0*****
- TomPhoolery, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1i can't wait til dreamhost does this!
- mandarin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Thought they meant a support center for the iPhone...
- airander, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Buried for the simple fact people are buying web hosting on their iPhone...
- Xenctuary, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I fail to see why this has sparked off so much negativity. I actually think this is a pretty good implementation of adapting an already available service for a specific client. iPhone users can still log into the regular MediaTemple account settings page via Safari, but they also have the option to access a more lightweight and optimised version to accomplish tasks that much quicker while on the move. Where's the downside to that?
- sigepjedi, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0Just what MediaTemple needs, another means for people to submit trouble tickets to their already flooded "support" agents. GREAT!!!
I always just call them, otherwise Im waiting for ***** days for some sort of resolution on anything higher up than wiping me ass.
