- RSAgent007, on 02/11/2009, -1/+10When will they learn?
I am willing to pay more for the phone. It's just the monthly voice+data plan that kills it for me!
I'm surprised at how oblivious some consumers are when the iPhone's price dropped to $199. Many of them thought "Oh wow, I'm saving money!" when in reality, they are overall paying more because the monthly data plan's increased cost.
I need a voice+data plan that costs < $40 a month. Please. - mizike, on 02/11/2009, -0/+6This. I would rather them increase the price by $200 and let me use it with whatever carrier and plan (or even, gasp!, prepaid) I want. As it is they could drop the price to $0 and it's still not worth it to let Rogers get their hooks into me for 3 years.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5Well the MacBook Air costs a lot because it's made to be as thin as possible. Of course they're going to sacrifice other features for that.
And if you're buying a MacBook Air for video editing you're an idiot anway. - Matt2k, on 02/11/2009, -0/+5Exactly. $80 a month after taxes (Plus text messaging?!) is kind of a lot. I really don't need unlimited data transfer anyway. Hell, I don't even use 450 minutes a month.
I realize I am probably not the target demographic for this product.
But since I'm talking out loud: Please unbundle unlimited data, support tethering, or just lower the price a bit. Throw me a bone here guys. You bundle Apple's top shelf products with a cell-phone carrier's nickle-and-diming mentality and this is what you end up with. - locondcoco, on 02/10/2009, -1/+5i'd be willing to bet the margin may be higher if this so-called "entry level" iphone were released. it almost looks like a recycle of parts from unused first-gen and 3G iphones, no?
- mikesorrentino, on 02/11/2009, -2/+5So it's basically the first generation iPhone?
- Qumahlin, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2This guy is so wrong its laughable. Apple outright said they have no plans of doing this. Apple has never wanted to be the "low end" guy.
for those that keep going on about an iPhone Nano, it's also unlikely to happen for the sheer reason that not a single app from the app store would be compatible.
As the article states this is the 2nd time this guy has given bad advice/speculation in regards to Apple's product line and stock. He has no sources whatsoever and may have well of said "well this is what I would like to see...so obviously they are going to do it"
Also why would they put any plan restrictions on the phone? So I buy a cheaper phone and can only use it occasionally...I hope no one is taking this guys stock advice. - jjustin01, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2This claim hit the front page last year and it was wrong.
This claim hits the front page this year and...See where this is going? - bakingoven, on 02/11/2009, -0/+2Things I'd like to see in iPhone:
atleast 2 day battery life from normal use
copy & paste
Flash in browser
turn-by-turn gps
bluetooth with more capability
MMS - Thex1138, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1Jobs and Co. said they don't go on the low-low end of the market...leave that to the rest...so I don't believe it will be a low-end iPhone.. It could quite easily turn out to be the next gen iPhone and a iTablet...the high-res screen could quite easily turn out to be the resolution of the Tablet..
Recall the 3-fingered touch screen glove..and the 3-fingered screen rotation patent..you can't do that easily..or comfortably on the iPhone real estate..and the hueristics to detect the finger pad, finger nail and pen gestures against the touch screen...
The screens might also be refreshed to OLED to extend battery life.. - sammyc53, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1I thought the iPhone already was entry level!?!?!?!
They need a Enterprise-grade device already. The iPhone is neither HIPAA nor SOX compliant. They need to introduce full encryption, completely support the Exchange Active Sync protocol (not just a subset of it). Untether it from iTunes, add a removable battery, allow third party applications, multi-tasking...
I could go on... - seinman, on 02/10/2009, -1/+2I'd rather see an iPhone with a data and text-only plan instead of a limited data plan. One can dream...
- MacParrot, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1The article also pointed out that anyone following this guy's advice concerning Apple stock (he said something along the line of it going to $70 short-term just before it jumped back up a bit) would have lost a lot of money.
Apple will release whatever it is they feel like releasing and some people will like it and buy it and others won't. - Lockhart1, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1The iPhone is not an enterprise tool it is a multimedia phone and it's certainly not entry level it's state of the art.
- inactive, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1Yeah because if you buy a Macbook, your decision MUST be purely because of how it looks.
Idiot. - sammyc53, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1Exactly - but if they want to increase sales, this is the avenue they need to tap. They have been ignoring it, and missing out big time.
- coldeh, on 02/13/2009, -0/+1Why does everyone whine about monthly iPhone costs? Buy the damn thing pay as you go, or if you are a business, its considerably cheaper Sim Free. Then stick a standard compatible Sim card in which comes with free data. For example:
Handset
£250
(O2 business)
O2 Simplicity Sim card
£14.00 for 300 mins / 600 texts & unlimited....
http://shop.o2.co.uk/sim-only-simplicity - locondcoco, on 02/11/2009, -0/+1i was about to digg you up but then you said you need a voice AND data plan for less than $40/month. please. you can't even get voice alone for that litte.
- mizike, on 02/11/2009, -2/+2I had a seriously WTF moment when I read the source of the rumour was the ***** Royal Bank. I trust you guys to deal with my finances, not to be speculating about the ***** iPhone. Still it gives me a warm fuzzy feeling knowing all those $1.50 services charges I get to pay due to there being one Royal Bank ATM for every hundred thousand people in this city have been put to a productive use.
- badcrumble, on 02/11/2009, -1/+1How about multitasking a la the Pre before moving up to a 720x480 display? The iPhone's display is already gorgeous. 2.3+ megapixel camera with video and 32GB storage is a great thing to add, but seriously Apple, compete with the Pre or you'll be left in the dust.
- JasPruett, on 02/11/2009, -3/+3I'd really like to see the iPhone Nano we've heard so much about.
On another note, I don't think Apple is going to release a sub-par iPhone to the market. Even though they're possibly looking to get a bigger piece of the market, I tend to think it's going to be more along the line of dropping the price on the 8 gig model and releasing a 32 gig model. If they release a 32 gig model, they'll probably drop the price of the 8 gig to very close or below $100.
Hey, it's possible. . . - jeffkee, on 02/11/2009, -1/+1A stripped down iPhone? I'd rather keep it a premium phone.
- klowngoblin, on 02/11/2009, -1/+1if your buying a mac laptop in general your an idiot.
buying a computer based purely on looks is stupid. - Voyovoda, on 02/12/2009, -0/+0Its simple - sell them a crippled device with features missing from the non-crippled one.
They will eventually think "gee, it would be SO AWESOME if I had x and y features"
Then they buy the noncrippled version.
Apple sells two products for more money than just selling one. Nice marketing. - Lockhart1, on 02/11/2009, -2/+0I can't believe how many people don't know that Adobe is working on a good implementation of flash for the iPhone as we speak.
- Murrabbit, on 02/11/2009, -5/+2Oh oh oh and can they price it even greater than the standard iPhoneG3 like they did with the Mackbook Air? I really love when Apple releases products built to even lower standards than their regular line and then charges even more for them! Steve Jobs is such a genius!
- klowngoblin, on 02/11/2009, -5/+0guidance is diffrent than GPS
the iphone has a joke of a GPS that doesnt work without towers
turn by turn is simply software getting coordinates from the GPS
the bluetooth chip inside the iphone is the same as any other chip really, the sw that apple wrote for it is ***** and totally cripples the chip. - inactive, on 02/11/2009, -10/+2I'd rather see an iDrone with a batter and next-only clan instead of a limited batter plan. One can cream...
