- TheWorm, on 06/03/2008, -2/+124Why is this in Apple?
- datafeaster, on 06/03/2008, -4/+74How does IE still have such a high market share ? . . . What's going on out there, updates? Am I living in a bubble?
- brisbin33, on 06/03/2008, -3/+62i work in a corporate environment; every corporate PC is pre-loaded with windows and IE; i think i'm the only one here that downloaded firefox (and i did it immediately).
the default choice always becomes the majority; that's the only reason it has any market share in my opinion. - jimmaculate, on 06/03/2008, -2/+52That would definitely be cool. Go Firefox!
- BlueSkyfish, on 06/04/2008, -5/+54Those 74% probably don't even know Firefox exists.
- greytfriend, on 06/03/2008, -0/+34I'm switching to it, thanks to advice from fellow diggers and the recent upgrades. There's definitely a word-of-mouth aspect to the fervor.
- Rikkochet, on 06/04/2008, -2/+27Rather, showing them a "better" way would be completely meaningless to them because for their purposes ANY graphical browser is the exact same thing.
Tabs? Confusing. Where did the internet I was just at go?
Popup blocker? But the site says it's going to show me something and there's just some popping sound.
Load time? I usually just turn on my computer and come back in 10 minutes because my last computer took forever so that's how I do it now.
You can't win. Don't fight. Let them have their world. - inactive, on 06/04/2008, -2/+26it actually already is past 20% globally because it is much more popular among Europeans. The article cites only US figures:
http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2008/01/firefox-global- ... - XFi6, on 06/04/2008, -1/+23I bet the reason why IE still has like 75% of the marketshare is because it's CONSTANTLY having updates, it has tons of awesome add-ons + skins and themes, they fixed all the laggi-ness, and it doesn't give web designers a headache anymore.
Oh, WHOOPS, they never fixed any of that... - jjb123, on 06/04/2008, -1/+22Or care, a lot of people are just technologically illiterate and can't really conceive how it could be better.
- asskicker32, on 06/03/2008, -1/+19Jeez, down already? Ive been using FF3 for months now. I cant wait for a full release and MS to lose more market share.
- H2Glitch2007, on 06/04/2008, -5/+22http://www.spreadfirefox.com/
Help spread the word. - uhhNo, on 06/04/2008, -0/+17they still use IE6 where i work :| and there are strict policies against downloading programs...
- zdiddy85, on 06/04/2008, -2/+18Any way we could get IE6 to drop to 0%? That'd be great!
- BlueSkyfish, on 06/04/2008, -1/+16There's *only* a word-of mouth aspect. Firefox would be a lot further along right now if there were commercials or billboards for the general public to see.
- Loornadune, on 06/04/2008, -0/+15People still use Netscape?
- phpchris, on 06/04/2008, -0/+15W3 isn't really accurate because most of the people who view their site are likely to be interested in web development so will more than likely be using Firefox.
- mdoom, on 06/04/2008, -0/+13how haven't you switched already? like, 2-3 years ago
- ElBeh, on 06/03/2008, -2/+15Did you hear that awful sound?
- P373Y, on 06/04/2008, -3/+14firefox and adblock plus= epic win
- ptFoe, on 06/04/2008, -5/+16Yeah didn't Steve Jobs not even mention Firefox in his retarded browser graphs when he launched Safari for Windows.
- telekid, on 06/04/2008, -0/+10I almost called you an idiot, and then I read the last sentence.
- MaxMWood, on 06/03/2008, -2/+11I honestly thought Firefox had a higher market share, but then again i'm not taking into account most people who only know how to check their emails..
- 4321234, on 06/04/2008, -0/+9Hey, don't call the guy an idiot, why don't you read the whole comment before you..................
nevermind. - raysaagar, on 06/04/2008, -0/+8maybe. but IE comes with the XP and Vista most of the time. maybe if FF were to come with every pc instead of IE...
- thatspsychotic, on 06/04/2008, -0/+7That, too, is beginning to change. Where I work Firefox came preloaded alongside IE. Some work intranet sites still require IE though, so the war is far from over.
- ukblacknight, on 06/04/2008, -1/+8I don't understand what his race has got to do with it? Are you implying that Firefox is for white people and IE is for blacks? All you had to tell him was that Firefox is a web browser, just like IE, except it's not made by Microsoft.
Race has NOTHING to do with this, more like technical ability. - rickpelletier, on 06/04/2008, -0/+7Yeah, that page has the disclaimer at the bottom:
"W3Schools is a website for people with an interest for web technologies. These people are more interested in using alternative browsers than the average user. The average user tends to use Internet Explorer, since it comes preinstalled with Windows. Most do not seek out other browsers." - louiebaur, on 06/03/2008, -1/+8That should be easy I had no idea so many people were using IE anyway I thought allot more people switched over
- ElBeh, on 06/04/2008, -2/+9Gosh, some of you Diggers don't even know Digg's unofficial theme song. :(
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XLLRsn_nr6s - Jerky1312, on 06/04/2008, -2/+9Firefox 3 is going to get talked about a lot throughout the net and I think a lot of people are going to give it a try and love it. There are people who will give it a 2nd and 3rd try, mainly because of the news that its less memory hungry. That was a main turn off for people sticking with IE and using Opera. 25% will be in their sites by early next year I believe.
- cynicalcheeto, on 06/04/2008, -1/+7You must be great at parties.
- Dylson, on 06/04/2008, -2/+8No. What? IM CONFUSED!!!!
- benologist, on 06/04/2008, -0/+5The structure being a corporation making a huge amount of money (must be at or above a hundred mil a year by now?) via arrangements with Google and whoever else?
They need to progress towards more conventional ads. Word of mouth requires a fresh audience and the same sites talking about Firefox isn't targetting a new audience. - akatherder, on 06/04/2008, -0/+5Web developers have to code for the majority. I use Firefox at home and IE at work because I need to test everything primarily in IE.
There's also the fact that Firefox is an absolute resource hog. 165 MB of memory as I type. - Malachai, on 06/04/2008, -0/+5He didn't call him an idiot, he was just saying--
Crap! - inactive, on 06/03/2008, -1/+6Malformed link. Fixed.
- letitbleed62, on 06/04/2008, -0/+5I'm just waiting for a foxy tunes update for Firefox 3, it's like living in the dark ages over here.
- dtrocchio, on 06/04/2008, -4/+8Am I the only one that partly read that title as "pass%20before", without skipping a beat?
- tba2287, on 06/04/2008, -0/+4I find it ironic that some companies still force their employees to use IE6 for security reasons, when in fact upgrading to IE7 or switching to FF would HELP their networks stay secure. IE6 is just a giant target, waiting to be exploited by botnet herders and sites offering drive-by downloads.
- xino, on 06/04/2008, -0/+4Your mention of race is completely irrelevant as far as this subject is concerned. Also, you can use Firefox on Windows and any ISP that chooses to offer customer support for Windows users using IE will also support customers using Firefox on Windows.
- Marinium, on 06/04/2008, -0/+4True, I think its very cool that Firefox has attained the popularity it has based solely on word of mouth.
- cynicalcheeto, on 06/04/2008, -0/+4Right. Because an open-source, free app can make a monopoly.
- Zetsubou, on 06/04/2008, -1/+5www.insanely-slow.com
- hundir, on 06/04/2008, -1/+5Firefox usage for my A+ class in high school is 95%, the only 2 that don't use it are my teacher and one mac user
- Szandor, on 06/04/2008, -0/+4Yeah, we all know how in-the-loop PHDs are.
- sleepwalkers, on 06/04/2008, -6/+10You forget that a majority of people are idiots when it comes to computing. Y'know, the types of people who think Internet Explorer is "the Internet."
- wondertwins, on 06/04/2008, -0/+4and that 18.41% of firefox users are probably diggers.
- secleinteer, on 06/04/2008, -1/+5But it doesn't work like that - because of all those people who don't care, we have to endure websites that aren't standards compliant, a lack of applications for Linux, etc. Like it or not, the technologically illiterate majority affects our lives too.
- nmanguy, on 06/04/2008, -0/+4And flashblock.
