- knelto, on 10/11/2007, -7/+148It's a 32 minute video interview. Once he actually pulls out the iPhone, he plays around on it, finds their location on Google Maps, flashes it to the camera, puts it away.
There, I just saved you thirty-two long, boobless minutes. - ReBeLaCe, on 10/11/2007, -3/+84Here it is shorter.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gh43LVJDCAg - NewChar, on 10/11/2007, -16/+48Of course hundreds will digg this simply because it has "iPhone" in the title.
- gregmo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+11the whole video is actually worth watching. Schmidt is a smart guy and the interview is interesting
- inkhead, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15This just shows that no-one is immune to Steve Jobs. You may be one of the richest people in the world but the iPhone still makes you giddy like a little girl.
I'd say sales will do just fine when leaders of countries want an iPhone. - addiggt, on 07/06/2009, -3/+13Knelto is right, if you're only watching the video for the iPhone, don't bother. However, the video is pretty interesting if you're into Google.
- aamir2, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10@xatx2
Lets see:
He turned on the phone,
Held it up for people to see,
Launched the Map app,
Typed and found the google location,
He then scrolled and zoomed to the right level,
and held it up for people to see in less than 30 seconds!
..... All while holding a microphone in the other hand.
I dont know about you but I think that is pretty decent and it tells me that in ideal conditions the same task can be achieved in about 10-15 seconds. You try doing the same task on a computer and you may realize that is pretty good going for a hand held device. - IamF, on 10/11/2007, -4/+10I still think this is the better iPhone presentation though:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=YgW7or1TuFk - LeonardNimrod, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Show me evidence of MS owning Apple shares! If you are referring to the measly 150M investment MS made many years ago, then those share were sold long ago. Furthurmore, 150M is a "big chuck" to you and me, but to MS or Apple that amount was merely a drop in the bucket to its then holdings.
As for the strategic angle. Maybe it's to get people to watch an otherwise uninteresting video about Schmidt or there is the possibility that the Google/Apple relationship that is now underway is mearly the tip of the iceberg of things to come. Both companies don't have much real competition with each other, and both have distinct and direct competition with MS.
Also, don't forget that Schmidt is on Apple's board of directors (there is a lot that can be read into that). - seanny19, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5I am not for the iPhone, but I am not against it. I read all of these comments against it, and i roll my eyes. I read all of these comments for it and I roll my eyes.
my simple opinion...the iPhone will be like the iPod. It will take a couple of product generations, but eventually everyone will have one. I believe that the first 2 or three iPhones will not be the greatest. But by the 3rd or 4th gen, they will have most bugs worked out, prices will come down near that of a video iPod and everyone will have one.
I do not plan on buying the first couple of generations based simply on that opinion. But I can easily see why there are many people for it, and many people against.
Point: This article was improperly titled because the iPhone appearance is not all that exiting next to the excellent presentation given by Eric Schmidt. - SpacedCowboy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Someone else who thinks "I don't like this, ergo no-one will". That's such bad logic, I'd hesitate to call it even a fallacy - it's not even wrong.
$600 isn't that much for a top-notch gadget these days (PS3, Tivo series 3, semi-decent computer, semi-decent TV). I'll certainly be getting one...
Simon - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -4/+8Looks like he has no problem typing and finding things quickly
- thesportoflife, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4well he is holding a mic dumbass
- nick2, on 10/11/2007, -1/+412 more days...
- ronmexico, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'm so sick of people posting on iPhone stories how great their "free" phones are. You don't see people commenting on stories about ***** phones about how much better the iPhone is do you? You people need to get a life. I don't care if you don't like them. Unless you have something constructive, and your comments were not, keep it to yourself.
- Electric_Sheep, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Microsoft owned NON-VOTING shares under the agreement. Microsoft had absolutely not power when it came to the shares influence. They had to keep them under a minimum of 3 years. Apple invested the money in Research and development and microsoft sold their shares after the minimum timeframe was up.
Sure, MS could have made a mighty profit if they still owned the shares today, but they had no influence on the direction in terms of percentage ownership due to the non-voting condition. - HA5TY, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5the only reason people want to watch this video is for the iPhone not the Viacom thing!
- bariswheel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2It's actually a very good talk.
But god forbid we don't want to mess with 30 second attention span of digg'ers by showing them something they actually have to pay attention to and learn about Google straight from the horses mouth. But no, why do that when you can read half a page of smears and opinions on fark, cnet, and other sensationalized sites?
Been digging for a long time now, I like Digg, but the quality of diggs is just becoming more and more like a whored out national enquirer in the tubes as the site becomes popular. - Soulhuntre, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Nothing I haven't been doing on my Windows Mobile Treo for a year or two.
- Neourotick, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1not much on the iPhone, but what kills me is he was talking about the audience being polite, and paying attention to the speaker, unlike at google where everyone is looking at their computer. then they cut to and asian guy laughing at the joke, and right behind him is a guy playing on his cell phone.
- axisofphilippe, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5i think 'boob-less' is hyphenated.
- rebotfc, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3The video is far more interesting that any iPhone reference, dugg but the iPhone doesn't make it great eric Smidt incisive commentary does.
- ruz322, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Why doesn't someone take this video and cut out all the other crap except the iPhone part if they were going to link to it using that name?
- nkthen, on 02/27/2008, -0/+1http://www.majordirectory.info
- Bootes, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1While I agree with you about the iPhone, the first gen iPod was great. It had the best scroll wheel out of all of them, since the plastic actually moved.
- TheRealDeal, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1If the iPhone is good enough for Eric, it is good enough for me.
June 29th...... - angle45media, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0web2.0's power couple...eric schmidt and steve jobs
- edebolt, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0on CNBC and Bloomberg the various industry analysts predict big success for the I-phone. I have seen a few predictions of sales that are 50% higher than Apple guidance. Usually they are fairly accurate about new products.. Not perfect but more right than wrong. It's so tempting to short AAPL stock because how can the I-phone live up this hype but it might be just such a historic product. This time around a "Buy the rumor and sell the fact" seems like a dangerous strategy with all the hype and momentum of the I-Phone. Time will tell.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3the iphone is actually alot smaller than i thought. less iphone hate from me because of that, but its still too fragile a product to carry around.
ive dropped my phone over 100 times in its lifetime, and i'm certain this iphone wouldnt survive one drop. - GeezerD, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1I'm getting an iPhone. Originally I wanted to see the iPhone bit. However, the video is very interesting, and worth the time, regardless of the iPhone.
- jopsa, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1i don't think this is proof that the iphone is fast to type on, really. From what we know from how the iPhone works, he probably did this:
switch on,
"slide to unlock"
press the Maps app
press the Saved Landmarks button (or whatever it's called),
press "Google Campus,"
and "boom!"
no typing whatsoever!
still, the iphone looks amazing, even in a real-life environment, as opposed to the ultra-polished renderings on the apple site.
it's just beautiful :) - MrViklund, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1It's iPhone!
I DIGG!!! - emehrkay, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1That was a very interesting interview. I feel that him and Bill Gates may have similar interests, I wonder if they ever chat it up.
- rockrapdude, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1What? People whipping' out their iPhones already? Hmm. Too bad Paris didn't get hers. Good timing, Apple!
- cryptoki, on 02/01/2008, -3/+1Id like to see your iPhone phone bill LOL....
If you activate all the services it has, your going to be forking out around 100 a month. Im single and make 40k which is ok.. but i cant even afford that - scottschiller, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1I saw one "in the wild" at a coffee shop yesterday in San Francisco, a dude from the engineering team sat down next to me with one and we chatted briefly. It was neat, but the world did not implode. Facebook cat is not impressed.
- super_spyder, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2WTF? why wasn't this posted on google video so i could skip right to the place i wanted to see, instead of waiting for the whole damn thing to load, and why oh why would the guy say "At about 24:30 he briefly pulls out his iPhone." when youtube counts backwards, and so therefor its only at 24:30 if you are willing to sit there and watch the whole thing with a timer.
- NapoleonGold, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2wow 2 minutes too the front page impressive.
- LeonardNimrod, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2@ rpgmaker
I'm not really sure what you are getting at. $150M is $150M regardless if the shares cost a penny or $150M, each.
If you are refering to the amount of money MS made on the investment, it's unfortunate that MS sold its symbolic investment after 5 years because the stock was just about to really take off. Check it out, MS could have made more money investing on its own or not selling the stock as soon as the MS/Apple agreement allowed them to.
I've heard it for years and my question to those who believe it is how could a measly $150M be a majority holding and how would owning Apple make the gov't think that MS was NOT a monopoly instead of making them appear as more as one by buying the next biggest OS. It just doesn't make sense. This misconception of how Apple was saved my MS is just as prolific as it is unfounded. - geuisteses, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1[supergeektone ]

(I hope everyone takes that in the sarcastic, I-agree-with-you-too, humor it was meant in) - KevinJim, on 10/11/2007, -10/+6Give us a break Apple fanboys... he shows his iPhone for some seconds, nothing more. You just dugg it because it refers to Google and Apple at the same time...
- MavRevMatt, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1...
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1Sorry for that.
- cryptoki, on 02/01/2008, -6/+1Have fun running to the store to pay 500 to 600 hundred dollars for the new purdy iPhone.
Hmm.. my current cheap free phone.. easily sends text messages, takes pictures that i can send as email attachments, and wow... makes phone calls too! the main reason to have a phone.
I have a laptop and a nice sack to carry it in when i need to do real computing and access and edit docs and send emails.
Ive had a blackberry with all the bells and whistles, and trust me.. it gets old typing out emails on even a blackberry after a while. You just get to the point where.. you still prefer the ease of notebook or a desktop computer. I dont see why the iPhone would be any different after the newness wears off.
Has anyone seen Nokias new line.. pretty much does everything the iphone does with some bad to bone camera phones too with video.
Its just strikes me as odd.. how we as a people somehow think a material device is going to make us a happier person. Maybe for a few days but thats it.
Instead.. just use that freebee cheapo from tmobile that works in almost any country in the world and take that 500 to 600 hundred bucks or more and take a nice trip to London or Hawaii or some beach in Mexico. ~peace - pukiman, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1Direct link, without that blog spam:
