- theradical, on 07/08/2008, -1/+25Getting your receipt by email is probably the coolest thing to ever happen to retail.
- D3koy, on 07/08/2008, -1/+3And when Bestbuy doesn't send you that receipt and you want to return your copy of Ubuntu ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8888 ... ) you're out $20

- SoopaflySAM, on 07/08/2008, -24/+3iPhone doesn't work with T Mobile... gay
- AceyS, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3Ehhhh... Inaccurate, Wrong and Ignorant. T Mobile is the official service provider for the iPhone in Denmark and the Netherlands. Also, with a jailbroken iPhone you can use T Mobile in any country that they offer service. Lastly, phones, telecommunication companies nor the service the provide can be homosexual.
- Gee1004, on 07/08/2008, -1/+11Just got a email from Apple. The process of getting an iPhone 3G will be mad. Plan on spending hours or days there if it's busy. lol
A Specialist will help you choose an iPhone 3G, review coverage maps, select a rate plan, and — best of all — have your new iPhone 3G ready to make calls, browse the web, and receive email right on the spot.
What to bring.
To purchase and activate iPhone 3G, you need the following:*
Credit card
Social security number
Valid, government-issued photo ID
Your current wireless account number and password or PIN (if you’re new to AT&T)- ThatDustyGuy, on 07/08/2008, -0/+5Hooray! Can't wait to spend 2+ hours waiting for an iPhone!
- DesdinovaEL, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1It'll be much longer than that
- brundlefly76, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Whats the SSN for??!
I actually hate the handheld checkout devices - so many times I have been fumbling with my purchases, trying to get my card out and pay without a damn counter. Unfortunately its the only way you can get out of the NYC cube within an hour.- clumsytime, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4Because to open a line with AT&T you need a credit check.

- xxslants, on 07/08/2008, -3/+1yeah, and it's the only thing that's constantly breaking down or losing connection in the store.

- JasonCox, on 07/08/2008, -1/+11Everyone uses Windows. Even Apple.
- wobegon, on 07/08/2008, -2/+2At least until they port EasyPay to iPhone/iPod touch. :D
- ShrimpCrackers, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2... Which is not going to happen until Symbol puts a hand in it. And given that my friends actually developed the damn machine, I know they're not.

- bbqsalad, on 07/08/2008, -5/+3I might have missed this in a previous article and this one is down, but what if you just want to buy the phone and activate it at home and do everything outside of Apple store. Can you just walk into the store and buy it cash without giving a blood sample and getting a spinal tap?
- mmeads, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2If they can't force you to do everything in store, they'll strongly discourage you from leaving before signing the contract with AT&T.
- Nothlit, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2No.
- Butterbean, on 07/08/2008, -0/+4nope, due to the subsidized price, extra steps have to be taken.
could also be a way to prevent unlocking and using on other carriers. - xxslants, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3No. If you want to buy and iPhone 3G without activating it in the store, you will have to purchase one of their no-obligation phones at the unsubsidized price. Also, you cannot purchase with cash. If you want to purchase with cash, you have to buy a gift card with the cash and buy the iPhone with the gift card.
- superkendall, on 07/08/2008, -4/+1Gee, perhaps you should look for an article on that. Something like, the freaking link?
- bbqsalad, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2It was down, like I said. Gee.
- pathouston22, on 07/08/2008, -5/+2Jesus christ what is with all this iPhone 3g ***** recently on digg? What, is there not enough Obama articles to keep the news flowing?
- digiguy, on 07/08/2008, -0/+3it looks like every iPhone 3g will be unboxed and activated. No doubt people will have to wait very long Friday.
http://duggmirror.com//apple/EasyPay_to_ease_iPhon ... - crazzy88ss, on 07/08/2008, -1/+2I have a friend that works in one of the NYC stores (soho) and she said that using these easy pay units to activate the phones is going to AWFUL.
Just think what the first few weeks is going to be like. When products like this launch, people can usually buy the unit and go, and there's STILL huge long lines. But now they're required to activate the unit while in the store? The lines are going to take forever.
I feel sorry for Apple/ATT employees over the next 2 weeks or so.- wobegon, on 07/08/2008, -0/+2Apple's use of EasyPay units is nothing new. They use them so people don't have to trek to the nearest checkout counter.
- unfletch, on 07/08/2008, -0/+1Yeah, they use these things extensively at the downtown San Francisco store. Any time the line is a little long they'll start plucking people from the head of the line if they're paying with plastic. I've been subjected to EasyPay a few times, and the experience is almost always terrible.
I have had one work on the first try. It must have been new.
Usually though the units seem to just flat out stop working, and you're left standing there waiting for it to restart so the clerk can try again. (That attempt will probably fail too.) Eventually he or she will go fetch another unit and try again. Rinse. Repeat.
In the meantime at least 4 people behind you will have completed their transactions at the register and left.
Lately I just decline to be served if asked by someone holding an EasyPay unit and wait for a register, but odds are there won't be an option on launch day. Good Luck!
