The iPhone 3G one seems more close to the original color - callistostg, on 07/13/2008, -2/+81No longer having a ridiculously unrealistic blue tint != yellow tint.
- macaddct1984, on 07/13/2008, -1/+60It's apparently intentional:
http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/08/07/12/appl ... - dopre, on 07/13/2008, -10/+68if you stuff it up your ass it will change the color
- MikeCerm, on 07/13/2008, -2/+48By Apple's admission, the change was intentional, and we know that OS X supports different color profiles. So, I suspect they're probably using the exact same screens, and just tweaked the color profile setting. If that is the case, it would be pretty simple to add color temperature control to the settings in a future firmware release.
To my eyes, cooler color temperatures look much better and make text much more legible. The 3G looks noticeably worse to me. I would like to see Apple add color temp control to the iPhone, so everyone can adjust their iPhone to look best to them. Unfortunately, Apple doesn't have the greatest track record of giving users what they want. (Usually, they stick with what Steve thinks you should want.) If Apple likes yellow screens, you might be stuck with them. - zdiddy85, on 07/12/2008, -3/+48no thanks
- Danby123, on 07/13/2008, -37/+81I'm ***** sick of the iPhone.
- cupofjoe88, on 07/13/2008, -1/+40except that it was a deliberate change by Apple to make the colors richer.....?
- Phssthpok, on 07/13/2008, -4/+42The blue tint is when you're in the real world
and the yellow tint is when you're in the MATRIX! - JoshuaLowe, on 07/13/2008, -4/+41They're set to what appears to be a warmer color temp, most likely because it produces more accurate color for video playback and viewing photos. Not to mention it probably helps with better viewing in daylight.
The problem with some of these people is they desperately look for any flaw to obsess over and commiserate with other hysterical, obsessive people on the Interwebs.
It's a great example of mass hysteria/delusion. See the Seattle Window Pitting Scare http://www.historylink.org/essays/output.cfm?file_ ... - GarrettB, on 07/13/2008, -7/+42Apple did this on purpose retards! Read about it on Mac Rumors!
- CrimsonBlur, on 07/13/2008, -6/+39Apple obviously decided to switch the color temperature to 6500k, which produces more accurate color in most situations. The problem is, consumers have been conditioned to prefer a cooler color temperature setting calibrated to look better under artificial light (so it looks better under the florescent lights in a store).
That looks fine in the store, but as soon as you go outside, are in low light, or anywhere that natural light is the dominant source, the colors are completely off. Most people don't notice because they are accustomed to the blue tinge, but I think Apple is taking a step in the right direction here.
Adding an option to change the color profile would be great, but I really hope they keep the default as it is. - eridius, on 07/13/2008, -6/+33This change was actually intentional. Apple engineers thought the old display was too "cold". Really, the only reason people are complaining is because it's different, not because it's "worse" in any way.
- macslut, on 07/13/2008, -3/+30If your iPhone 3G has a yellowish tinge, you can fix it by updating to the latest firmware. It's somewhat hidden. In iTunes if you check for an update it will tell you that you have the latest (2.0) software. But if you look at the firmware version in settings/about on the iPhone you'll see version 5A345. The latest version of 2.0 is actually 5A347.
To get it, first do a full backup of your iPhone. Then do a restore from that backup. Re-synch, and you'll be good to go without the yellow.
I found this on MacRumors:
forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php
I tried it myself this morning and it worked for me. - simonwright, on 07/13/2008, -2/+27I have a spectrophotometer-calibrated LCD (to 6500 kelvin, which is daylight white), and my iPhone is bluish-purple by comparison. Sounds more like a correction rather than a tint.
- charbo187, on 07/13/2008, -3/+27I can?? AWESOME!!
- wwwluckyro, on 07/13/2008, -0/+23You found it on that exact page, huh?
- barkerja, on 07/13/2008, -7/+23Then why are you looking at this Digg/thread?
- whyufail, on 07/13/2008, -17/+33Apple will then pass this off as a "deluxe" feature and everyone will go happily about their elitist ways simply mocking the owners of the whiter phone with "Oh yeah, well I have the YELLOW Iphone!" and generally looking smug as they do.
- locojones, on 07/13/2008, -2/+17LOL It's not a defect, it's a feature!
- chrixxian, on 07/11/2008, -18/+31No problem here...

- howser2007, on 07/13/2008, -6/+17Early iphone adopters bitching...who would have thought?
- bluesdealer, on 07/13/2008, -1/+10I work at an At&t store and it's been too much of a circus for me to actually play with these things yet. However, I've found that they do look more appealing in person than the original iPhone did.
The screen doesn't look "yellow" at all. It actually displays images with seemingly more natural color than the cold, blue tints of the original model. - Soniti, on 07/13/2008, -0/+8There is so much fail in your comment that I won't even attempt to point it out; I have a luncheon in 4 hours, and I don't think I'd have enough time.
- Dracusis, on 07/13/2008, -0/+7It all depends. Looks to me the first iPhone had a very cool/cold colour temperature, it was probably set/calibrated while indoors, which is where those photo's were taken. If the same photos taken outdoors in warm sunlight the first-gen iPhone on the left to be awash with blue and very difficult to read where as the 3G would display brighter and more natural colours. That's a fair trade-off IMHO.
Also, colour temperature differences become invisible to most users when you aren't doing side-by-side comparisons, unless they're ~really~ extreme biases. I doubt most people who don't have another display to compare too would ever notice. - toetagger, on 07/12/2008, -9/+16Lots of people are complaining about this. It may be difficult to illustrate it with a photo. One guy said it happened to his first gen iPhone after the 2.0 update, so hopefully it's only a software issue.
- stephenjbolger, on 07/13/2008, -9/+16In those photos the one that has more yellow looks like the colour is richer.
- FatBird19, on 07/13/2008, -1/+851 burries because his new iPhone is working well and he wanted to share his blog? Seriously guys, what the hell?

With users complaining of yellow screens, Apple has confirmed that the screens on the new iPhone 3G are calibrated differently. According to senior Apple representatives, Apple has adjusted screen's color temperature differently to produce warmer, more natural tones. Citing a conversation with Apple's senior director of product marketing, Engadget reports that "the screen's color temperature "has been purposely altered on the new iPhone to produce warmer, more natural tones, sharper images, and deeper blacks." The report says that first-generation iPhone screens "appeared colder and less defined," leading Apple to make some adjustments for the new models. - iLemon, on 07/13/2008, -0/+5These are the best examples of the difference between the old and new. I couldn't see any difference in the original article.

It's collective delusion...As seen in the Great Seattle Windshield Pitting Epidemic:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seattle_Windshield_Pi ... - Jawkish, on 07/13/2008, -0/+5uum "yellow-tinted" screen is seriously like not what people should be complaining about with the new 3G.
my phone lasted less than 30min when i was playin' poker on it and also apps are locking up or quiting randomly. - inactive, on 07/13/2008, -1/+6That's because you are going to try it out. You haven't upgraded the firmware yet.
- Qumahlin, on 07/13/2008, -3/+8It's a phone, not a HD camcorder. Your right most cell makers do have better cameras on their phones, and guess what compare the pics from those cameras to the same pic from a real digital camera of equal MP rating and you'll see just how ***** cell phone cams are. Upping the sensor doesn't do much when the optics just aren't there.
As for 64GB of storage, I suggest you check the prices of 64GB SSD/Flash.
Next time do a little research before spouting off your inane rants - bobbarr2008, on 07/13/2008, -2/+7Got ours yesterday and no problems there! Gotta say, I love the speed, spent about 2 hours showing Russ Verney how to use his. Then I sent a video to Bob and (from his blackberry) he txt'd back "isn't there a new phone out that I can watch these videos on?". Heh, do you think I can convert him? - Martin
- inactive, on 07/13/2008, -3/+8He needed something new to bury.
- bjgpp, on 07/13/2008, -0/+4If you restore your iphone 3g in itunes, it will update it with the new firmware. Thus solving this problem!

- CrimsonBlur, on 07/13/2008, -3/+7Funny how I get buried for explaining this exact same thing and you're at +4... dugg you for calling it a correction :)
- suprememilo, on 07/13/2008, -1/+5I noticed this last night after using my friends iPhone 1.0 with firmware 1.3ish, his was brighter and bluer and mine was yellower/warmer,
It's similar to what the difference between autobrightness on and off looks like but not the same. - cheekiej, on 07/13/2008, -0/+4thats because O2 had serious issues activating new accounts. this owner was probably caught up in the crashed system, and had his account activated later.
- Ediebriquette, on 07/13/2008, -4/+8I feel like this change happened PRIOR to 3G release. I've bought four iphones (for other people; I don't need four for myself), and my 16gb bought in March has warm colors, too.
