- PicklePower, on 10/17/2008, -5/+63I would like to see a new Mac mini come around.
- benadamson, on 10/18/2008, -0/+48They can make a laptop from a single piece of aluminum, they can put the entire internet in the palm of your hand, but they can't make a decent mouse?
- tacotruck08, on 10/18/2008, -3/+30Mac Mini
Anyone
Anyone
Bueller ?? - techpr, on 10/18/2008, -3/+29And with no Firewire!
- MacParrot, on 10/18/2008, -1/+20I've been using Macs for over 20 years and every single mouse I've ever gotten from Apple has been a piece of badly engineered garbage. I've always gotten a third-party mouse or trackball
- digitalpencil, on 10/18/2008, -2/+17i've always wondered what goes on in Apple's mouse development meetings..
Research Dev1: "We'll make it ergonomic... like.. A Pebble!!"
Research Dev2: "Yeah! with side-buttons slightly lower than where your fingers naturally fall"
Research Dev1: "& you'll obviously need a vice-like grip to squeeze them anyway"
Research Dev2: "obviously.."
Research Dev1: "What about right-click, we could give them another button!!"
Research Dev2: "I don't think Steve'd like that... what about, MAKING IT MULTI-TOUCH!!! We'll have it so it senses which side your fingers on when you click it.. that way, if you click it with your finger still on the left side it won't have a ***** clue what's going on and just sporadically bring up contextual menus!!"
Research Dev1: "Genius!!"
Research Dev2: "Alright, you know the scroll-wheel?"
Research Dev1: "yeah"
Research Dev2: "Well i was looking at nipples and i've had this great idea!!"
Research Dev1: "i like where this is going.." - inactive, on 10/18/2008, -1/+10Even Microsoft can make a decent mouse
- digitalpencil, on 10/18/2008, -0/+8Microsoft has made some pretty sick mice actually i love my intelli-explorer.
- FruitBoy, on 10/18/2008, -0/+6Yeah - whats with that? It hasn't had an update for... Well.... I can't remember.... Since they made it core 2 duo?
- fugazied, on 10/18/2008, -0/+5Dude, I have a Microsoft trackball I bought... perhaps 7-8 years ago. Still works flawlessly. Great mouse, probably the best I've ever owned.. I use it with my Macbook pro of course ;)
- Eddiecoaster, on 10/18/2008, -0/+5I want a mac mini with the geforce 9400m from the macbooks.
- jermm, on 10/18/2008, -0/+5Honestly, about 5% of MacBook users care about firewire. Then again, for 10 bucks, apple could of put a port (hell, even a 4pin port), and pleased the 5%, but no, they say ***** you, buy a MacBook Pro.
- MtheoryX, on 10/18/2008, -0/+5Really? The ignorant right-click complaint still?
- yetAnotherCroc, on 10/18/2008, -3/+7In fact one of the few things they are really good at. To me it seems like Microsoft would do well to leave the OS arena and focus on Office, Gaming systems and computerhardware.
- VideoGameMatt, on 10/18/2008, -2/+6Its possible but more likely that a memory boost would happen at macworld in january
- breakingrocks, on 10/18/2008, -0/+4You know you can use any mouse with a Mac right?
And the latest apple mouses, which are kinda *****, have right click buttons - fugazied, on 10/18/2008, -0/+4I can tell you don't own a mac because you'd quicky realise you can use any 2 button mouse and also you can configure a 2 finger tap to be right click with a macbook pro (it's actually very quick). I highly reccomend getting a mac, like most windows to mac converters you won't look back once you go mac.
- threemagic, on 10/18/2008, -0/+3I bought one of the first intellimice ever... the big white one, I love it's feel...
it's lasted through 3 machines now...
WHICH includes several years (on and off) of Diablo 2 (those that have played know why that means something) - brickbat, on 10/18/2008, -4/+7Once I made it dual button, I have come to really like the mighty mouse.
- StuartGibson, on 06/14/2009, -0/+3That's a very good question. Clearly it's not new laptops or new iPhone. Probably not a new iMac, partly because the current one is relatively new and in line with the current design ethos and partly because of this potential spec bump.
Could be a new Mini and Mac Pro, both of which are probably due a refresh, but that doesn't give you much of an announcement. Obviously there will be talk about Snow Leopard, but since it probably has very few consumer-oriented changes it's not a big candidate for a Macworld show, more WWDC.
The thinking then would be that they are getting all these refreshes out of the way now to give lots of time at MW to a brand new product line... - digitalpencil, on 10/18/2008, -0/+3there's not really much that can be done with the mac-mini.. push the max ram to 4gb and update to Montevina maybe but what's the point? i've got one i picked up off ebay for £180, i love it and run Plex through it on my TV. It works great as compact media center solution streaming 1080p off a Linux server I keep in the back but i'd never use it as a desktop machine..
What Apple could really do with doing is to release a middle-ground between the mini and the pro series, something smaller and cheaper than the pro, with sli graphics and that's upgradeable but honestly, what are the chances? - smcavoy, on 10/18/2008, -0/+3noooooooooooooooooooooo!
- StephenCIreland, on 10/18/2008, -0/+3if they do i will turn my back on apple forever
- ryanhayn, on 10/18/2008, -2/+5This new Macbook lets me scroll through Digg comments at super speed.
- Takuro, on 10/18/2008, -0/+3And here I am with a new iMac, saying to myself, "Hey, they just updated these over the summer. What are the odds that they'll release an update one any time soon?"
Although I know it's going to be mostly minor hardware update, it is annoying to know that I'm stuck with a Mini DVI port while Apple is now going with DisplayPort as it's de-facto video output standard.
But still, I feel like the Mini really could use an update much much more. - MtheoryX, on 10/18/2008, -1/+4@damian7:
"it makes even pathetic virgins feel like they have a shot at getting laid"
You may feel that way, but you still don't have a chance. - Uiaccsk, on 10/18/2008, -0/+3Dugg for the effort.
- abbathdoom, on 10/18/2008, -1/+4Once you realise that the new Macbook is basically just a 13 inch Macbook Pro then you realise that this is nothing to do with Firewire getting dropped and everything to do with Apple needing to create a false differentiation between the two laptop lines. As iMac sales aren't going to start cannibalising Mac Pros any more than they have done I dont see a reason for them to drop Firewire.
- MtheoryX, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2But you don't have a FW port.
- dandonia, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2I have been waiting for one for ages, either an update or a price drop, it is currently well exspensive for spec and I really want one.
- johnpaul191, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2I would love my mighty mouse if the little trackball still worked well. It seems to be some odd issue that they stop working up and down, but scroll left and right just fine. I know a few people with the same problem.
The only other complaint i might have is that it's too small for me, but i realize that's a personal preference. - inactive, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2What i would like to see
Tablet mac with some special software
Updated mac mini (with better than expected specs)
Sub 800.00 notebook - MacParrot, on 10/18/2008, -1/+3What does this have to do with the article? Or any other comment here?
If you're talking about the refurbs at the Apple Store, they aren't all used computers. While some certainly are returns for one reason or another, there are different ways a Mac ends up there. Could be a last gen model they still have in stock that their trying to sell. Could be a production fall out, or just one pulled at random to check for any defects. No matter the reason, I've been buying refurb from Apple for awhile and think it's the best deal out there. Each machine is hand checked as compared to just assembly line tests, it has exactly the same warranty, and can be anything from 12 to 30% off list. - inactive, on 10/18/2008, -1/+3Was planning on buying an iMac before the end of the year, so this is good to hear.
- MacParrot, on 10/18/2008, -3/+5Why bother commenting when it's clear you're a douche?
Oh, the games - inactive, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2It's because of GST
2000 U.S. dollars = 2 896.03244 Australian dollars
2 896 + (.1 * 2 896) = 3 185.6
calculated with google calc
p.s where are you getting the screen prices. apple.com.au says they'll sell for 899(I'll put money down that it's just a rebranded american page). But still you can't make that comparison without an official price - KeiOthic, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2Am I the only one here tired of all the 'DUE NEXT TO COME' or 'REFRESHER' Apple product news that's been appearing lately??
- MtheoryX, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2You only have 1 TB?
Pfftttt...and you call yourself a digger. - McHoffa, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2no kidding... that's why i use the logitech revolution with my mac... so far the best feature set i have found and their mac software is actually good
- handler, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2I just picked up the macbook pro for 1350 from the refurb apple store.
- Macintoshreader, on 10/19/2008, -0/+2Yeah, I agree. The Mac mini hasn't been updated for more than 410 days!!!
- MacParrot, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2damian7,
Since you're probably about 12 I'll let it go, but for your information being drunk and stupid (especially at your age) is no way to go through life. - m00nmaster, on 10/18/2008, -1/+3Leave the damn matte as an option PLEASE! I hate glossy.
- Rkstar, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2The current Mac Mini line came out on August 7, 2007. When is the last time Apple left a computer unchanged for over a year? The current iMacs just came out in April.
- rowlodge, on 10/18/2008, -0/+2like the iphone, wish they could double everything at half the price.
- johnpaul191, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1Hopefully not, but i am guessing they will keep updates to a minimum to keep down prices. Every time they do changes that requires a new board layout, it takes time and money. If they just swap a processor with a faster one, but the same footprint etc, then it's easy.... but any redesign is money that has to be recouped.
That being said, i hope they do an update sooner rather than later. I'm looking at getting one in the near future. - stuma9000, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1This is very common. Seems to happen to all of them eventually.
- digitalpencil, on 10/18/2008, -1/+2tbf, if they were to shove desktop sized parts in the mini it wouldn't be particularly 'mini' anymore which i guess explains why they put small notebook parts in a miniaturized desktop pc.
that and Steve was reluctant to introduce 'The All-New Mac Fatty' at the keynote speech.. - MsArtGeek, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1I usually fix it by mashing and rolling the ball down for a little while. May take a few tries, but that will clear out the gunk underneath.
- paradox2222, on 10/18/2008, -0/+1Compressed air is your friend, just press down the ball and blast air all around. It is annoying, but eventually it works, the ball is too small and collects your finger *****, which in turn gums up whatever sensors are in there. Blast it free and it'll work again.
