Don't even start. Don't, *****, complain. There have been like five Mac programs for this purpose on the front page of Digg in the last week alone. - jekins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This program is unreal... I've been trying tons of both free and commercial (wasting my money) stuff for a long time now and I've never seen anything like this program. It's worth huge bucks for it's insanely fast conversion times and precise, beautiful outputs of practically any file format you drop in it's little window... and it's free on top of it all. Absolutely unbelievable. This is highly worth a shot, even if you're skeptical.
- wbreim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2BTW it encodes WIDESCREEN correctly by itself!!!
- earlhickey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've never had an audio sync issue with Videora. You just have to know how to use it.

Hehe, yes as I Mac (and also PC) user I think you are right. Options for Mac include iSquint, MPEG StreamClip, Podner etc. No shortage of them. People who don't know just go to versiontracker.com and search for them.
Having said this, I prefer to do ONE rip of my DVD's (yes, my legitimate library) which I can use from the iPod so it looks both good on the iPod screen AND output to TV. For that reason, I rip 640x350 (or thereabouts) into 1.3GB MP4 files. Beautiful quality and you can happily encode using XVID or DIVX. I prefer that to a 320x240 file that I won't want when I get an iPod V6 or whatever and have to go through the ripping process again. For people who happen to have found an existing DVD rip on their HDD's I think you are better simply changing the container format and not transcoding the video stream for the best quality (unless you have no intension of using the TV out of the iPod). Quicktime Pro (or for the financially challenged Quicktime Amateur) and StreamClip do a fine job at letting you say to a container without recompression. I believe VLC (VideoLan Client) for Mac/PC/etc can do a similar job (it's designed to stream video rather than just play it). - gregcotten, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The problem with all these programs is that it does not detect pixel aspect ratios. DVD rips are ALWAYS 720x480, but with 2 different pixel aspect ratios (4:3 - .9 PAR; 16:9 - 1.2 PAR). Any other aspect ratios for films are put in to the 16:9 PAR proportionately. Therefore, for 16:9 footage, this program will still output as 720x480 (or downscaled 320x240, 640x350, etc.) SQUARE pixels. So now I have to get out my handy calculator to find the correct proportion for the image (720x404 should do it - but the iPod can't play that, so I have to use proportions again!) Oh well.
I applaud all who make free programs that do these things - don't get me wrong. - Gorbash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Better than Videora. No fiddeling with settings. And no audio synch problems, and faster than Videora.
Dugg - 4815162342, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1been using this forever while all you clowns were using videora and getting sync problems. i guess it pays to do a little research huh?
- KentGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's another tool to try (I prefer it, myself) - "Super" is the name, and its a gui frontend to the very flexible ffmgeg executable. Handled everything I've thrown at it so far.
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html - dapengi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A mac version similar to this is iSquint. google it.
- sagerj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Tried to install using setup.exe and it said languages directory not found so i manually made one and put and the language .ini's in and then it gave me another error when i tried to use setup.exe again.
Heres the error - Invid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Been using this for a few weeks...Dugg.

Converting a video right now, waiting to see the outcome. - jcpiercy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0www.screencastsonline.com has a FREE tutorial on the different MAC ipod vid converters

It does an excellent job, and is the fastest video converter I've ever used. The h.264 converter does a great job, I can get a 300 mb VOB music video to 50mb, at 640x480 with no real quality loss.
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Videora rocks, and never had audio sync issues.
- nomechingues, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just got a new ipod video but it only seems to play m4v video extensions not mpg4 or mov, is that right ? and if so how can i turn my videos to m4v format considering i have a PC not a mac
- Gatorade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What converter out there encodes VOBs the highest quality? I'm not worried about file size. I want the highest quality.
- isewise, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just got the Avivo converter from ATI and it works really well, but ill play w/ this one also.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Trying it out.
- Psykus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This only works with .avi files?
- Funkly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0here you go.. this works.. it actually gives you access to the Quick time pro tools, just read the directions carefully...

LMFAO - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Works pretty well, except the framerate is kind of low
- zelphi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've used Videora on every sitting and haven't gotten an iPod compatiable file yet (maybe because I was converting from xvid/mp3?). Anyways, this works wonderfully. I've been looking for something like this for weeks now.
- tmcleroy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use the ImTOO iPod video converter. its really customizable and noob friendly (not that i am one). southpark episodes look pretty good at 400kbps mp4. And the program is free if you know what i mean ;) *cough*crackspider.net*cough*
- diehard2k5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Videora..
no digg. - chubbyduck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Is there a PC version of Handbrake which will rip a DVD straight to an iPod compatible .mp4?
- sagerj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://img529.imageshack.us/img529/2959/untitled3fj.jpg
- CorruptRay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just started using this, works perfect! Love it, simple and REALLY quick. Had some problems with a few music videos though (.wma), it would throw off an error and wouldn't convert it. Still, overall, awesome program.
Dugg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm sorry......but everytime I have ever transcoded a xvid/divx .avi file using ANY ipod converter app, the audio is ALWAYS out of sync. Seriously, is there anyone who can help me with this??
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0...Sweet, now somebody find something that keeps the audio in sync.....
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0P.S. How is videora's "One-Click Transcode" not fool proof? If you show someone how to click the button and choose a file, that's no harder than this program. And *****, using the videora method, you don't even have to choose a profile (for people who don't know what they all mean), the default profile is ready to go for the iPod.
- Tenzin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i am happy with videora ipod converter
- Nanx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0How long does it take to convert?
- AttroPheed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0or you could have bought a player that can play stuff without converting it to a proprietary format in a resolution viewable on a 4:3 screen the size of a watch face.
- XMorbius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Digging it, seems like a good program, and from what I can tell there aren't alot of idiot-proof programs for this kind of thing yet.
Hopefully my Best Buy warranty and half-functional 3G iPod will land me a Video iPod soon, and then this will come in very handy! - thejohnomalley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Now... where is the Mac version???
- loker269, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0bah videora has been around for a long time why use anything else....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0xbox,
