- digitaloxygen, on 10/12/2007, -28/+71If your reading articles in the Apple section you shouldn't be posting this kind of comment. You should realise that the article applies to APPLE and probably not windows. There is plenty of cool software out there that is Windows only and not Mac so suck it up princess.

http://djodjodesign.free.fr/rightEN.html - gagravaar, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34This is shareware. If you wan't to do this for free, do the following:
Use Safari.
Open the page with the video you want.
Open the 'activity' menu.
This lists all the items on this page, locate the entry for the video file (it will be the largest file size).
Double click on this line, it will download.
Rename it, no need to put a file extension on it.
Convert this file to 'iPod' format using the free application 'iSquint'
http://www.isquint.org/.
You're good to go.
A bit more long winded, but at least it's free. - crammaz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+26Or...
1) Get the "video downloader" plug in for Firefox...
2) Convert the flash file that appears on your desktop to MP4 using 'isquint' http://www.isquint.org
Easy!! :P - NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17Uhh, I am the submitter, and I didnt realize it required a serial, so i was letting people know. What is your beef?
- chicagobiker, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19@andrewcod
Because this Digg submission is obviously an attempt to pimp this shareware app which costs $15.
Your suggested free alternatives are cutting into this developers riches. - NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Doubt it. And unfortunatly, you need a serial code, other wise it only does the 1st 30 seconds. It also can convert into PSP format, and others.

For the windows users ;p - fuzzlepop, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10haha what a name, tubesock!

"oxygen: It shows up on the main page, which almost everyone views. Are you saying we shouldn't read or comment on a new iPod? We can read/comment on what every we want on Digg."
Not really what I was getting at. People can read and comment on whatever they want, it's a "free country" on the Internet so to speak. What I'm saying is (for example) if someone reads an article in the science section (even if it shows up on the main page) it's silly to comment and say something like "holy crap this article is about science, that's stupid! I only care about technology". Know what I mean? You should expect to see articles about Apple in the Apple section and not wine when it doesn't apply to windows. That's just ignorant. - benlundquist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10All of a sudden my PSP is big pimpin'
- desimaniac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Found it..

One of the mirrors: http://update6.free.fr/AE6BAD69E7C5E7E3A942A6/SUPERsetup.exe - realyst, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8for windows users:
use VideoDownloader for firefox extension:
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/2390/
Get SUPER(freeware, but it is hard to find on the site due to all the ads, it's the very small very last link on the page) to convert the FLV file into a compatible video format:
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
SUPER can do just about any format, so PSP, iPods and GP2Xes should be fine. - geekdreams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Because they make ad revenue (in theory) from pageviews.
- NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Did you buy a large case for it recently?
- andrewcod, on 10/12/2007, -11/+16What?
How can I be getting dug down?
Both do exactly what the program linked to up top does; plus they're both free. - Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6EDIT: ^ Great minds think alike...
Well there's a couple extra steps, but it's possible on Windows.
Download Free Riva FLV Encoder 2.0:
http://www.rivavx.com/index.php?downloads&L=3
Encode the FLV into something useable such as MPG.
Then for PSP use, encode to the MP4 format with PSP Video 9:
http://www.pspvideo9.com/
Not sure, but maybe you can use the Riva encoder to encode directly to MP4. - RegisteredUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4You can also use KeepVid.com to download a YouTube video as an .FLV file. And then use any of the previously mentioned apps to convert it to whatever format you prefer.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8A free program that converts videos of all sort (not just on youtube, but .avi, .mov, .flv., etc.), into ipod form. No viruses and no spyware. However, I think videora is only for windows...dunno.
http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/iPod/ - Quickbreak, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9Why not link to the program itself, eh?

>Now why should we deny the Apple Fangirls the chance
>to have ONE piece of functionality the Windows users don't?
thats the ultimate joke on you. windows people are always so busy telling us about the butt load of software windows has that nobody uses because its utter junk... you never get around to realizing that macs have a universe of software that is unavailable for windows.
there is a difference in mac and windows software because of the UI guidelines and other things and that is that its almost all very high quality and it all looks and feels the same. no UI shortcuts that make it suck.
i doubt you've ever thought about this either. all the industry standard software... like MS Office... Photoshop./all the CS.. Quark... really... on and on... were made for macs originally. - chiptinder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This reminded me of the app I read about on Phill Ryu's blog recently..
InnerTube
http://phillryu.com/2006/08/25/surfing-youtube-with-class
Not out yet, but it looks to be pretty sweet for this sorta thing. - Goosemaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3lol...their products always have the corniest names..
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2For Linux you can convert like so
ffmpeg -i myFile.flv -ab 56 -ar 22050 -b 500 -s 320×240 myFile.mpg - desimaniac, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Seriously.. I can't find the link on that page...
- realyst, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I know, frankly the page annoys the hell out of me. But the software is tight and adware free.
- foolfromhell, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@antioniojvr
Never in his post did he indicate that he is going to, or suggests pirating this piece of software.
@SpamHater
Im sure 99% of videos on YouTube are home-videos or commercials that the makers hope goes viral (Web2.0 buzzword!!!!!!)
albeit, most dont get more than 3-4 views..... - macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@mascga3, yes, it's windows only.
- SuperSunny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think it's possible with IE because no one really gives a big crap in customization for it
- marcusramberg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hmm, the download link on the apple site breaks. Here's a link to the iusethis entry for it.
http://osx.iusethis.com/app/tubesock
Also note the comment about podtube ( http://osx.iusethis.com/app/podtube ) - 1024k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's really not a big deal to play and convert YouTube files in Windows.
Check out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJV2wT7Ngpg
If you follow that video guide you will not only be able to play all FLV files (FLV1 and FLV4) with Windows Media Player but can also load them into Virtualdub via AviSynth. That opens up endless opportunities.
Beginners can use SUPER as shown in the video. Other than Riva FLV encoder it can be configured to support FLV4 (On2 VP6). - deadlock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Digitaloxygen:
Don't be so retarded: Apple produces iTunes for Windows as well as Mac, therefore it is not unreasonable to ask if an iTunes-related application is available on Windows. - maxputer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Mint. Funnily enough I saw this in the download seciton the other day, but didn't stop to look what it actually did. Good post... glad you made me look twice!
- NightRush, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually it was only the singer of Deathcab, the band was actually The Postal Service.
- EsotericBoredom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Haven't used isquint but I have used the hell out of SuperC converter. It has quite a few options as to what you can convert to. works great for me and its free. It could take some trial and error to get the right container, codec, audio type, video size, frame rate, bit-rate (all of which are user controlled options) depending on what you need. All in all its a rather nice little program and its free. I don't work for the company or anything I just like the program.

- DiffLan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0******** Best solution for me is to use Zillatube..
ZillaTube is very easy to use. It downloads youtube videos very fast. It plays all youtube videos easily.
And it can even convert to excellent videos formats such as mpg, avi, and more.
