- musicfreak21, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Not really. I use Quicksilver...so therefore I don't need 50 applications in my dock just my main 5.
- Iwantawii, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I fart in your general direction
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Also if you want to get rid of the grey background on your dock check out ClearDock.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I dugg you down just to see what happens to my scroll bar.
- Majdaa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I tried those a few months back it was too ugly of a hack and it doesnt work nearly as well as I hoped..plus the fact that they're big and ugly and stand out too much (as opposed to the default seperator which only adds a spaceand a thin transparent line...
- astrosmash, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The Dock is responsible for Alt+Tab application switching, among other things. You do not want to disable it.
Quicksilver is great (I wrote a similar program for windows a few years back and still find it essential, on Windows) but it doesn't replace the drag-and-drop functionality of the Dock, not the simple one-click access to common applications. - KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Damn, I thought this would be some sort of haxie for the dock that would allow more separaters like the one between the applications and the folders/trash. Turns out it's just a few icons. Cool, but...eh.
- seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Sorry, could you repeat that spam? I didnt get it the first hundred times.
- cakerun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5here's the deal.
the dock is located in /System/Library/Coreservices/dock.app
you want to stop it from running, and prevent it from opening @ login.
Open Activity Monitor [Applications/Utilities]
Find the process "Dock"
Quit Process
Now, your dock is going to start up again when you log in, so......

Its dark, creepy and torturous - N1XUK, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Just a Tip...
Place a folder in your apps folder called "dockdividers"
Copy and paste multiple dividers of the same one you want
Rename each one, but leave it blank with spaces - spin-docta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Anything Adam Betts does is a digg in my book.
- kbarrett, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5No, no, no. My dock must be free like the wild mustangs!
- jdelamater, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Where's cool? OH! You mean they're cool. Got it.
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2or you could just read the instructions which you just rephrased and passed off as your own.
- thunderer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't forget to rename each icon to , or (if you have two types you're using in the dock, and so on). This is so you don't get the "Blank" or "Black Dots" text above it when mousing over the divider icon to get to whatever program you're after.
- ThisIsMyName, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I prefer TransparentDock:
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11295
It's not free, but costs only $8.00 - Does more than just clear the dock's colors also. - zenrhe, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1Definately, Quicksilver changes everything. if its ever not running, i get so confused on how to do things as i got quickilver as soon as i switched to macs. the whole idea of a start menu seems wrong now.
- h3xley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1transparent dock is good but it's still PPC only atm :(
- Jimzip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah I read his site, pretty cool guy. Plus the site design kicks major retro butt.. ;)
JW - mateo60, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's such a simple idea, and a good one.
- rdhaag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does anyone know how to disable the current divider next to the trash?
- attention, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"transparent dock" is way better
and doesnt require you to install anything
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/6490 - bradkovach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1His blog is way fun to look at and more fun to read.
- Rickard, on 10/12/2007, -6/+6People still use the dock? One word, Quicksilver.
Speaking of which, does anyone know of a way to disable the dock completely? I can hide it of course, but that doesn't quite cut it. I often accidentally open it.
Same about spotlight. Any way to disable it completely? - Derfus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3that's pretty cool actually
- teethless, on 11/12/2007, -0/+0we need this for leopard! dividers that look like divider between the apps and the trash. please. someone.
- Kenji32, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Jesus hates you.
- Groovel76, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I mainly use Ubuntu but I do own a Macbook. I do enjoy my mac and I understand the aim to make it as simple as possible. However, I don't understand why the layout of the GUI is so 'not-quite-set-in-stone-but-still-a-pain-in-the-ass-to-customize'. Changing icons, the layout of the desktop, adding a divider bar should not require jumping through hoops.
- leftfoot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3You can die as well.
- alansky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Rather than add extra complexity to OS X by installing yet another add-on, you can easily organize your Dock applications by creating folders full of aliases for the apps you'd like to group together. Drag this folder to the Dock (the area to the right of the Dock's default divider is reserved for files and folders) and you're done. You can also replace the default folder's icon, but the best part is that when you click-and-hold on the folder in the Dock, a pop-up window shows the folder's contents for easy selection. I keep individual icons for my most used applications in the main part of the Dock. Everything else I want easy access to is also in the Dock, but in folders.
Don't add needless complexity to your Macintosh. Computers are complicated enough already! - leftfoot, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3die in a fire
kthxbai - Misos, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Just remove everything and make it as small as possible.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1funny, I've had this with ObjectDock the whole time.
- Blackmane, on 10/12/2007, -13/+2There cool
- sjbdallas, on 10/12/2007, -16/+2Oh, i get it. DOCK......with a D.
I read it differently.
