- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -32/+283Wow. Kevin arguing in FAVOR of Apple, wearing a Google t-shirt and using a MacBook. Apple tattoo?
Sometimes I think Kevin isn't a real person but instead is a manifestation of all the fanboyism on Digg. - flag564, on 10/12/2007, -17/+222"they are bound to look similar."
But I can assure you if LG's phone came out after the Apple one, all we would be hearing is how it was a total iPhone knock-off and how LG cant come up with an original idea.
But reverse it and it's "Oh well, who wouldn't come up with the same design?" - jalenack, on 10/12/2007, -30/+190Fanboyism at its best.
- dtd00d, on 10/12/2007, -25/+126"Kevin got owned"
So true. - ArchonSG, on 10/12/2007, -32/+125That's the real problem with Digg.
Too many people want to be with the "hip" group by emulating Kevin, and along with that, Apple Fanboyism is part and parcel.
Way to go Alex. He may be abrasive but at least he's a voice of reason over a multitude of Steve Jobs, Apple worshiping "me too!" fanbois. - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -6/+83KEVIN ROSE DISCUSSION WITH AL GORE ABOUT APPLE iPOHNE 2.0 BETA!!!! (***** microsoft)
title says it all - siglesias, on 10/12/2007, -14/+88I think Alex is taking the Dvorak approach to pissing off Apple users.
- afred, on 10/12/2007, -0/+45http://www.digg.com/apple/iPhone_LG_KE850_separated_at_birth
link to the article they are referring to. - cr3ative, on 10/12/2007, -16/+59KEVIN ROSE APPLE DISCUSSION WEB 2.0 FLICKR AJAX LOL!
Do I get frontpaged now? - Cronus6, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32He had no argument at all...
"You are going to buy one because it has an Apple logo on it!"
"Well, yes, I am."
Apple could repackage ***** (with smooth rounded edges of course, and glossy corn chunks) and call it the iTurd and some people would buy it. - digger_twit, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34Kevin Rose, diggnation in title - homepage! =)
- Sanchez, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26BREAKING: AMAZING VIDEO OF APPLE UBUNTU GOOGLE BUILD 2.0 (VISTA DRM LOL)
I think that covers most of digg. - Klitzy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26digger_twit....submitting parts of diggnation.............once again ;)
- lostboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24ah come on, when kevin rose really gets drunk and then forgets the cameras recording some funny ***** does come out of his mouth.
- Rhine23, on 10/12/2007, -5/+28Kiwis are where it's at.
- Snakedal337, on 10/12/2007, -2/+22It's an acer exclusive he received to test vista.
He the balls to bring that thing to macworld! - flag564, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23"Gimme a break - thats like saying Vista and Mac OSX are the same software because they have widgets/expose/etc."
Um, how many post/articles have we not seen where Apple fans were trying to say this exact point? - moisie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+24There may be similarities but by nature of the fact that they both have screens that take up almost all of the device, it's hardly surprising that they look alike. If they're the same then every candy bar phone is a copy of the first candy bar phone and every clamshell phone is a copy of the first clamshell phone. Also all laptops look the same because they're rectangular, have a keyboard and trackpad and a screen that folds down.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -10/+28Alex wins. He controlled this debate from one end to the other. Didn't give Kevin an inch.
It was a thing of beauty.
"is Kevin not high right now?"
LoL! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21NO *****!!!
- afred, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Now you just need an article.
- adml_shake, on 10/12/2007, -0/+15If they argued like that in every episode I think I'd watch more...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19Alex has no control over his voice!
- pathy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15So uh, question - What's the laptop (Tablet?) that Alex is using? Anyone know the model?
- CGreen, on 10/12/2007, -10/+23i like oranges myself
- JJP0223, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14He said an ACER in a previous podcast, but it looks like it said ASUS on it. It is not yet released, he got it from his friend as M$.
- afred, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13they weren't pretending to be drunk... alex had coffee, and kevin drank maybe 2 beers, and some water at some point.
- shad0w, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Yea, that tablet is ***** awesome. Anyone know who makes it?
- CaseyCC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Does that Alex guy remind anyone else of Eric Cartman?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Why, because he sees apple for what it is, a corporation making lots of money on stolen ideas rather than the Great Messiah here to rid the world of all evil doers and MS products??
Get a grip! - Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15Considering Kevin just bends over and takes it (from Apple), you figure it out...
- Asystole, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12"227 views and over 1000 diggs?
At least watch the damn thing before you digg people."
A lot of people have probably already seen it on Diggnation. - GuitaristTom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8do you go through like 50,000 phones a year?
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Wow, a story where flag564 actually has net positive diggs??? Isn't that one of the 7 signs of the apocalypse?
Can an intelligent person actually argue that Apple copied LG (or vice versa) where both products are released at close to the same time? Of course not. Do you people have any idea how long it takes to develop a product like this? Apple's been working on the iPhone for 2.5 years. LG has probably been working on theirs a long while too. Where's the opportunity for imitation? Nowhere. The entire debate is absurd.
Now if you want to look at the iPod (2001) and the Zune (2006) or OS X (2001) and Vista (2007), now THERE'S plenty of time to rip off your competitor's product, and the argument would be viable. Let's try to think logically here, people. But since this digg is obviously infested with the Hater Horde (again, witness flag564's once-in-a-lifetime positive digg count), rational thought is apparently not welcome here. - Erasmus354, on 10/12/2007, -8/+16227 views and over 1000 diggs?
At least watch the damn thing before you digg people. - justdelegard, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8google owns youtube.

I'm the biggest non-conformist of all. - mbthompson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Because he has a cold for cripe's sake.
- Me1000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7YOU ALL AR F'n STUPID!!!!
Kevin made a great point! no one cares about it, because it doesnt have the functionality of the iPhone! they look alike, who cares! It isnt fanboyism!!! - fefynedd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7During the credits for Episode 80, Alex says it's a "Vista Tablet PC by Acer, not available for purchase."
- JeffH, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Alex has perfectly good points. In terms of fanboyism, Alex and Kevin are Ying and Yang, they pretty much perfectly counter each other. Wanting to block out the other side of the story just shows that you don't care about balanced news.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Dunno about 'better' but at least the Kia wouldn't cost almost as much as buying a new car to get fixed after a minor accident, or force you to buy a brand new car once its battery dies rather than just replacing the battery.
- sotopheavy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I also doubt either company copied one another. I am guessing they both saw the buzz around the full screen iPod concept a long time ago and tried to develop that product with their own spin on it. LG saw potential to integrate it with their already existing cell phone technology. Apple wanted to branch out into the mobile phone industry and took significantly longer to develop this product. the designs are both very similar and they seem to draw from the full screen iPod concept. All I can say is that this is a big deal now but it is going to be like 2 flip phones being called the same eventually. There are only 2 designs like this now, but many more will come in the next 2 years.
Full Screen ipod conceptual images (product is not real as of yet)

LG KE850
http://www.gizmodo.com/assets/resources/2006/12/ke8501.jpg - klawz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8That's not the point here, if the Apple phone had been announced a month before the LG phone, then people would be crying foul that LG ripped off, copied, started the copy machines, etc. the Apple phone. There are even articles out there saying the LG phone is a copy of the Apple phone, for those that didn't even know that the LG phone was shown to the world a month before the top secret Apple phone was revealed.... What gets me with the whole argument about Vista and OSX, is that most of the stuff that people say MS copied from OSX in Vista, was in a preview of Vista (called Longhorn) before OSX even came out.. does that mean Apple copied MS? No, does it mean that similar ideas come out of parallel innovation and work? Sure, maybe. The whole arguing and pointing fingers at who copied whom is a waste of time and should be left up to the courts to decide, when those companies actually care, they will create a patent or trademark and fight then.. I don't see any fights over Widgets and or this phone (yet).
- hanapbuhay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Video demonstration of the LG KE850:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5916aOMQNI - chris9902, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14next week we answer the question: who cares?
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I wish people would actually be specific about what Apple copied from LG. The number of buttons on the dial screen? The placement of buttons? To me, it just seems like logical placement. The dialed number on top, numbers in the middle and call buttons on the button. Also, only 3 will fit at the bottom without making them too small. Yes, the layout is similar but it possible to come out with this layout simultaneously without copying because it's fairly logical. The iPhone seems more logical to me. IThe iPhone has a "call" button and the LG has a "send" button. Send doesn't make sense in the context of making a call. If you watch this video of the LG (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5916aOMQNI) you will see the differences in the rest of the OS. IMO the iPhone wins at ease of use and dominates in fluidity of the OS. That LG phone of is slow and jumpy. It appears to ignore a lot of button pressing attempts by the person doing the demo.
- 8-bit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I don't have a mac or apple product but to me the iPhone does look more defined. More slick. This would be something from star trek TNG and the other thing would be on the original series. I think I seen bones with one.
- writerboyVSgod, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8KEVIN ROSE SHOWS IPHONE ON THE DAILY SHOW... oh wait, I'd actually like to see that.
- loker269, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Forgive me if I am wrong.....but the LG KE850 was announced and seen by the public before macworld had even started.....so the title is misleading.....no one copied anyone both were well under development at the same time.....

What is Digg?
